How Humans Survived Extinctions w/ Henry Gee (Senior Editor of Nature) | InShanely Curious Ep 2
In his latest book, The Decline and Fall of the Human Empire, British paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, and wry wordsmith Henry Gee examines humanity’s precarious journey on the tree of life.
For millions of years, small groups of scrappy, upright apes have lived “one meal away from starvation and two meals away from extinction.” Yet, against all odds, humans went from extras in the drama of life to a lead role in Earth’s history.
Join comedian Shane Mauss and scientist Henry Gee as they share laughs, insights, and philosophies about humanity's past, present, and future. Take a break from the day-to-day grind to explore the unfathomably vast scale of time we miraculously find ourselves existing within.

The Feast Of The Shane | InShanely Curious Ep 1
มุมมอง 41914 วันที่ผ่านมา
A hobby of watching nature documentaries turned into a full-blown science obsession that sent Shane’s comedy career careening off the traditional stand-up path and onto a unique journey of getting to use humor to explore the hidden underpinnings seeding the tree of life. Thank you for watching and being an inquisitive being. HAPPY FEAST OF THE ASS!

Great suggestion! @Meta4Monky that will be great, and I will be happy to see it, but for my money these sorts of exciting concepts generally don't pan out. But it's always a fun conversation to consider. Mostly I'll be learning about animals and such as I find everyday reality to be under appreciated in favor of the types of topics explored in sci-fi movies and TV

I think the psychedelic material is among your best! I also like that it can be used as a way to educate people, its sad that psychedelics are still pretty "taboo" despite the fact that they have a better safety profile than alcohol and they have been helping people beat depression, PTSD, addictions, and also just helping healthy people to have amazing beautiful mystical experiences. The decrim movement needs more people out there educating the public, comedy is a great way to do it. Hope to catch your next tour!

Yes they can. Flies live an entire life cycle in oil. This is all in the human mind. Its a silly combination of human ego( oh god were so powerful well destroy our planet!) And self hated (were terrible and somehow seperate from the earth) . Planet is fine . The people are effed. Its projection. You will die there is nothing you can do about it and the world will go on and on and on with you becuase you are individually insignificant. Humans are a blip. Nothing more. Live on in prosperity! Most people have sold their children into debt slavery and pretend to worry about the planet to cope.

My strangest dmt experience was kind of like a breakthrough into the environment i was already in. It was so outside of context compared to any of my other psychedelic experiences. Aside from a friend who was talking and looked like old school animation when slowed down enough to see the pages flip by... Aside from him, everything was hyper still. It felt like being inside the wireframe of a video game, but all the objects in the environment had such presence, all so sharply defined. Another of my friends later said I wouldn't shut up about how still everything was. It was like, profoundly without movement. Very strange considering all my other psychedelic experiences could be defined (at least in the visual sense) by kaleidoscopic, ever-morphing phenomena. Strangely, dmt is the only substance I've ever had hallucinations in black on (I later named one of my songs Hallucinations in Black... although the video has very little to do with the actual content of those trips). Anyway, the trip where everyone was hyper still effects me deeply to this day. Everything was so different in such a profound but ineffable way. It was a different order on consciousness altogether, but given a short period of adjustment, I could've functioned in this world every bit as effectively as I do now. God, I wish I could explain it better, but the deepest thing I learned from that trip is that there are experientially different ways of perceiving reality that have nothing to do with emotional states, but with the modes of perception themselves. We all might live in very different worlds...

There’s a certain “ fuck you” in my reaction to someone telling me that my thoughts are wrong/ distorted, while the other person has the ego the fucking ego to claim they aren’t delusional. Ultimately, these people who think they know my mind better than me are taking shots in the dark. They seem to actually think that books and parts of the brain turning colors under a machine is the same as the reality of depression. I kinda feel sorry for them, having the burden of arrogance.
