I could feel the heart, and the personal experience, in this. I especially appreciated that you acknowledge everyone struggles and they don't all look the same but are all valid. My mother didn't really want me, and she often made it into a contest of comparisons whenever anyone in the family was hurt or sick or sad. Pain shouldn't be a competition. We all have struggles. We all have pain.

This makes me think about "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas", which is a story about a child who is kept away in suffering for the sake of keeping the city safe. It is a condition that the child must suffer so the city stays happy and safe, and the utopia it is for all. All the adults know about the child, and some choose to leave the city because although they hate the suffering of the child, they cant bring themselves to help the child, and possibly make the whole city suffer. The child escaped.. now what?
