Corinthian Hall, Dickens Carolers, & Christmas Fun!
It’s birthday fun with a festive twist! 🎉🎄 My sister Karen treated me to a special day at the Kansas City Museum to celebrate my birthday (a few days early!), and it was absolutely magical. I was so excited to see the stunning Corinthian Hall all decked out for the season and to hear the Dickens Carolers singing their hearts out. We enjoyed some delicious Christmas treats, completely failed at playing pool (or is it called billiards?), played a few board games, and soaked up all the beauty and history the museum had to offer. It was such a joyful day, and I can’t wait to share it with you-come celebrate with us! 🎶🍪✨

Karen saw "cat water and food bowls". I saw "queso and salsa bowls".
Mmmmm, queso!!!😋
I love purple clematis! My mom and grandmother had them. So pretty and bloom all summer!
Y'all used to have one from the dawn of time, if I'm remembering right. It was so pretty.
@@PressPlayOnLife Yes - the clematis I had was from a starter of my Grandma Daisy's that was from a starter of her mother-in-law!
The drawings of the Plaza are very cool! And I love the paint sample one you got for your office - very cool! 1976 Highlights - I guarantee I read everyone of those!
They had so many cool things!
That 1st house estate sale was a gold mine!!! Three lamps for $30 - get outa here! But - you walked right by the estate jewelry cases!!!! I can't shop vicariously if you're going past my bling, Kelly!! 😃
🤣🤣Sorry about that!
How did I live in the KC area all those years and not make it to Corinthian Hall?? It's the "Philbrook of KC!" Love the architecture!!! That sundae looked delicious. No comment on that Fairy Temple drink?!? I was waiting for you to go to that tree - those glass ornaments were so cool!!!
Corinthian Hall is definitely a must-see! I'd never been there either. It put me in mind of Philbrook, too. Only there wasn't a hidden dance floor that I know of.😊 And yes, those glass ornaments were so cool!
Oh my word, I haven't seen those peppermint taffy candies with the tree in the middle forever! My dad loved those. That and ribbon candy - every year!
That was our momma's favorite! I haven't had the ribbon candy in forever or any of the other Christmas hard candy.
I spy the Little Golden Book "The Monster at the End of the Book"! One of my all-time, favorite read-aloud books to read to little toddlers & preschoolers! It's so cute and fun. I also saw those Guy's Barbecue Potato Chips!! Man I miss those - so good!
The Monster at the End of This Book was my favorite! I totally filmed those Guy’s BBQ chips for you!
St Charles looks adorable. I bet it's fantastic at Christmas!
You're right, I bet it's absolutely gorgeous at Christmas!
Love those tiles! That turned out so pretty!
I love them too! I was so excited about how those tiles looked on the table.
Happy birthday and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year! Hope you have a relaxing holiday season. From across the pond.
Aww, thank you for your kind birthday and holiday wishes! 🎉🎄 Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year as well! I hope you have a relaxing and joyful holiday season. Sending lots of love across the pond! 🌍✨
Yes! Nancy Drew clothes. Such a cool place.
Absolutely! I couldn’t help but think of Nancy Drew when I saw those clothes. 🕵♀ Such a fun and unique spot-thanks for watching! 😊
What an interesting place that is. It's amazing that it was a family home, it's just so big. Thank you for taking me along on your adventure. Happy Birthday, Kelly! P.S. And ice cream, yum! One of my favorite food groups!
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! 🎉 It’s incredible to think that such a huge place was once a family home, right? I’m so glad you enjoyed coming along on the adventure! And yes, ice cream absolutely deserves its own food group-100% agree! 🍦😊
Hiya. Happy Future Birthday, Kelly. Were those tree decorations glass? Stay safe. All the best to you.
Thanks, Andy! Yes, they were glass. They looked like they might have been hand-blown glass! They were beautiful.
The garland matches great with the wreath. All the decor is very festive!🎄🎅❄️ Merry Christmas
I like the peppermint taffy candies, too! I also like the raspberry filled hard candies. Definitely a bowl of those screams "Grandma's house!" to me. lol The wreath that your sister-in-law made is so cute and pretty. The garland looks nice with it. Thanks for sharing! P.S. In a previous video (Menards Christmas décor trip) you asked me to tell you what new Christmas tree ornaments I bought. I sent an email to you with that info.
Oh maybe I should check my email! Sorry.
@@PressPlayOnLife No need to be sorry! Oh that Midwestern niceness! LOL
@@nadineaugustyn130 Lol! Not the first time Karen and I have been told we are too Midwest nice! 😅
It was fun looking through all those handwritten recipes and ones clipped from newspapers and magazines, too. I wonder how many of these recipes she tried. I'm assuming it's a she who collected them. I have to say that probably 3/4 of the recipes sound awful. lol And I'll eat weird stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I thought a bunch of them looked pretty weird too! 😅
Fun fact! (Kinda?) my family and I have a ghost friend at the Lexington battle field! I forgot his name even though it’s quite easy to remember! I live near there and I enjoy seeing people go to visit Lexington and other places around! (I can’t tell where I live around there but it’s okay!)
So fun!! Thank you for sharing!
🙂
Thank you for this, we really liked it and appreciate your time and great comments! It's going to be a great Christmas and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You just made my day! 😊 I’m thrilled you liked it, and I hope this Christmas is truly special for you and yours. Wishing you and your loved ones the most magical Christmas filled with joy, love, and plenty of holiday cheer! 🎄✨
Happy Thanksgiving to you and family. May the blessings of health, goodwill, and happiness stay with all of you in the year ahead.
Thank you! 🧡 Wishing you and your family a joyful Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and countless blessings! 🦃✨
I forgot KC used to have two papers: The Times and the Star.
me too!
It is so fun to think of these ladies sharing recipes over the years and now you are reaping the benefits!
The handwriting training in the US during the early to mid 1900s was very regimented! The recipes look so much like what I have from my grandma and my mom!
@@maryanderson5652 Absolutely! The handwriting is like a window into another time, so careful and beautiful. 🖋 Family recipes like these are such treasures-I love how they keep us connected to the past. ❤
Hiya. Enjoyed that and managed to stop myself heading to the shops! Have saved the video for future reference, mind. Here's a hand-written recipe I found for stuffed shoulder of lamb - Bone lamb, Stuff, Tie, Oven cook at Gas Mark 4 for 1 hour. I did laugh at the simplicity. Happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe. All the best to you.
Hi! Glad you enjoyed it-and kudos for resisting the urge to dash to the shops! 😂 That handwritten recipe for stuffed lamb is an absolute gem-straight to the point and no frills. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving as well! Stay safe and cozy. All the best to you too! 😊🦃✨
I love vintage cookbooks from the 50's and 60's and 70's-- I use my 1962 Bisquik one all the time- YUMS!- Kimberly
Kimberly, that’s amazing! 🍴 There’s something so special about vintage cookbooks-they’re like little time capsules! A 1962 Bisquick cookbook sounds like pure gold. What’s your go-to recipe from it? 😊

Look great! The cat is cracking me up. ❤
Thanks! That little guy is definitely a character! 😁
These look wonderful. I like these recipes that are simple to make, but because they have all those spices they are super tasty. I'm thinking they would be a perfect treat with a cup of tea. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 😊 I totally agree-those spices really make these cookies something special. 🧡🍂 And yes, they’re PERFECT with a cup of tea or coffee-you’ve got me craving that combo now too! ☕
I have little to no Christmas spirit right now. Your trip to Menard's was fun and I especially liked seeing the ornaments. I'm thinking I should get all new ornaments this year just to shake things up so maybe a trip to Lowe's or Walmart (no Menard's here) is in order. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching! 💖 I totally understand how hard it can be to get into the Christmas spirit some years, but a fresh set of ornaments could do it! 🌟 I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing the ones I found-it’s always so fun to explore! A trip to Lowe’s or Walmart sounds like a great idea, and I’d love to hear what you end up picking out.
Looks really yummy, Ill have to try it!
St. Charles, MO looks like a nice place to visit. I'll bet it's pretty for the Christmas season.
We totally want to go back at Christmastime. If you Google St. Charles, Mo, at Christmas, you can see how pretty it is.
They have tons of cool items!
They do!
That looks delicious
It may be my new favorite! It was so good.
Awesome!!
I had no idea anything this cool was in Missouri. Usually, you have to take a cruise or live out east to find 16 blocks of cool old buildings filled with shops!
Congratulations 🎉
Thank you so much! 🎉 Sending lots of gratitude across the pond! ✨Your support means the world to me! 😊
They are all so cute! I like the first one (table) a lot, but the buildings are so fun too!
Aren’t they adorable?! 😍 I’m so glad you love them! The table scene has such a cozy vibe, right? ☕✨ And those buildings definitely bring out the small-town charm! 🏘🍂 It’s always hard to pick a favorite! 😄
Pumpkin and coffee!!!
🎃☕ So glad you’re loving the pumpkin and coffee cover! Thanks so much for casting your vote-I’m excited that you like that one! 💖
I really liked the pumpkin one but now that I see the town I like that one better, It's more cozy to me.
I’m so happy to hear that! It’s great that the town cover gives you that cozy feel. I love hearing what speaks to everyone. 🎃🏘️ So glad you're enjoying the options! 😊
I apologize ahead of time for my word-vomit-of-ideas: I like the fall town scene, however it doesn't have a coffee specific feel. It's a great generic, extremely cozy small town feel but I don't feel coffee. I haven't read the book so I don't know how important coffee is to the story and therefore I don't know if it should be the table with the cup or the town. I'm thinking that if you go with the fall table/coffee cup cover then the Christmas one should be the table one just to keep the covers a little more consistent in style. If you choose the fall town scene, I like the Christmas marketplace cover that shows the two people. I don't get much Christmas vibe from the light blue marketplace cover. Unless you don't like when covers do this...I think Christmas covers should scream CHRISTMAS. The people-less marketplace cover is a pretty light blue, but I think it looks summery. Can there be Christmas lights on the market stall awnings? I think the candy canes, and the bow on the top of the stalls should be much bigger. If you choose the two people at the marketplace cover, I think it needs some more Christmas details. Christmas colors on the awnings, Christmas-y colors for the quilts or their clothing? Zhoosh it up! Should the people be holding to-go cups from the coffee shop? I'd better stop. I'm overstaying my welcome. Thanks for the video!
No need to apologize-your “word-vomit-of-ideas” is super helpful! 😊 I really appreciate the detailed feedback! Just to clarify, the plan for the series is to use a consistent set of designs. So, if I choose the covers with the slash of colors, then all the covers in the series will follow that same design style. Similarly, if I go with the town square scene, that will be the theme throughout the series. The first book does focus on the coffee shop, but the series as a whole will be about the fictional town of Hickory Hills and the surrounding area, so it’s important that the covers reflect that broader setting. And I totally agree about the Christmas covers needing to scream Christmas! 🎄❄☃ I love the idea of adding more festive elements like bigger candy canes and colorful details! Your ideas have me thinking, and I’m grateful for your input! Thanks so much for watching and for all the great suggestions! 🎃☕🎄
Hiya. Re the Fall cover, it's still the vivid pumpkin table cover for me, not the houses. For the Christmas cover, it's the empty, deserted Christmas Market one with no people around that works for me. It's all that and sinister, cold, brooding ... but WHY? Da-da-daah! The other cover with the couple looks TOO jolly, suggesting, yet again, another children's story. You're supposed to be Agatha Christie not Enid Blyton. Just another opinion. Stay safe. All the best to you.
Thanks so much for your feedback! 🎃 You're right, there’s something about that pumpkin cover that stands out! I totally get the Agatha Christie vibe-more eerie and mysterious that you're looking for. 😊 Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Stay safe, and all the best to you, too!
#2!!!!
Yay, thanks, Robin!
I vote number one!
Great choice! Thanks for voting.
I like the designs of the first one with the background of the 3rd (that purple is fantastic!).
Thanks so much! 😊 I love that idea-combining the first design with that fantastic purple from the third cover would be amazing! So glad you’re giving me great inspiration! 💜
First cover!! 😊
Hey Kara!
Thank you! 😊 The first cover with the pumpkins seems to be a popular choice! 🎃 So happy you like it!
I like rhe pumpkin cover. Yes, having series that have similar feel for cover and title is a great way to pull me in when i am looking for cozy mysteries. I cant wait to read yours
I’m glad the pumpkin cover caught your eye! It’s such a cozy vibe! 🎃 I’m working on making sure the covers and titles have that same feel for the whole series. I’m so excited for you to read it!
Hiya. Tbh, I don't like any of them, but if I was standing in front of a Printer who was telling me to "pick one NOW, the presses have to roll", I'd go for Number 1. Reasons:- The first hints at a tentative connection to cause of death and motive or a complete red herring. The second looks more like a Bob The Builder story for children and the others bear no apparent relationship to the synopsis you read out. Just an opinion. Stay safe. All the best to you.
Thank you so much for your honest feedback!I totally get where you're coming from. Number 1 does seem to hint at the mystery element a bit more. I’m still tweaking things, so your feedback is really helpful in thinking about what will resonate with readers. I really want the cover to capture the feel of the book, so this is great insight. Appreciate it, and take care!
I think I like 2 and 4 the best : )
Thank you! I’m so glad you like 2 and 4! 😊 It’s been a tough decision, and I love hearing which covers resonate with everyone. Your input is super helpful!
