UPS Driver Explains How To Become A UPS Driver, UAW Workers Are Getting Laid Off. #upscareer #ups
Lol they don’t make em like they used to everyone wants to get hired off the street and get top pay and air conditioning. Load some 53 footers in the hub for a couple years earn your stripes
@@teecee7375 Your perspective is shared by many, including myself.
What’s good!! I applied for a tractor trailer/ Dock Worker position in Memphis, TN, which is now pending. It’s a permanent position not seasonal. I’m already a CDL A driver with all endorsements. Is there anything a person can do from a work ethics standpoint to avoid being laid off after peak season? Does the layoffs also involves any and all positions?
Thanks for your comment/question. Since it's a permanent position and not seasonal, that means they'd still most likely need you after peak season. There's no 100% of avoiding anything, however there must be a need there hence them hiring for a permanent position. Just do good work and remain valuable and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck and report back!
Currently wrapping up all the training now, Just finished up day five and did some more driving with a lot of verbalizing all hazards etc etc. here in INDY
NICE!! CONGRATS! The ability to recognize hazards will keep you safe, which is ultimately what matters. Our training is next to none. It's amazing how many hazards we recognize versus when we were non-drivers lol.
Got the job as package handler + DOT/TCD. Already passed my road test, already had my DOT physical done and good for 2 years because I am currently driving for Amazon their bigger vehicles step van. So now my orientation with UPS will be October 4th but they already sent me the integrad online courses already studying learning 5s and 10s and all that what can I say I’m in basically thank you for the advices looking forward to drive and become an RPCD at some point.
Way to take care of business and congrats!! Get those 5s and 10s and you'll be golden. Make sure safety is always #1 priority! You're welcome, share this with a friend or 2 who you think could also benefit or even maybe other new drivers in orientation. Let's Go!
Im sorry but working at ups is way better compared to usps pay wise
I agree! I know several people that work for usps.
If you worked for USPS prior does that give you an advantage or does it not mean anything? And if I got a job as a handler how hard/easy is it to switch to a driver position?
It doesn't really give you an advantage. It only helps once you get in. Once you're a handler, sign the driver bid sheet EVERY time it's up. And depending on the staffing situation, that'll determine how fast you will get into a driver postion.
I passed my road test but I stop receiving updates once I got “thanks for your interest “ the lady told me that my info come up as already a preloader idk if that’s why because I’m currently a pre loader . I talked to someone otp they said my application under review idk what to do next they told me weeks ago my class was on the 23rd but haven’t received any updates
What was the position for? TCD or seasonal driver? And, the position is in your current building right?
@@BrickedOutMedia preloader / cover driver I currently work as a preload right now no the position is currently in another city that’s like 30 minutes away
@@1scdaijah That could most definitely be the reason. Is there not anything available for your building? Union hourlies aren't really allowed to "transfer". Try to see if you can get someone on the line or talk to someone from your building.
@@BrickedOutMedia yeah I’m apart of the union , I feel like there more of a chance I’ll drive more at the other one . I believe it’s because I’m at a different location but hopefully they will transfer me I won’t be doing preload anymore once I get there
@@1scdaijah You might be able to get a transfer, but it's rare. An if you did, with the TCD position, your primary job will be preload when they don't need you to drive. As a default, just expect to do preload. Good luck.
man i feel lucky, i just got the application for preloader/tcd. and i just passed my road test!. what should i be expecting next?
First of all, congrats!! They'll send you to training/integrad. Study the materials, arrive on time everyday, be prepared, and make sure your appearance is up to par. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!
@@BrickedOutMedia once I get in, what will be my route to become a full time rpcd?
@@rick1992brwak It really comes down to the staffing situation at that facility. A certain amount of workers will be promoted to RPCD per year depending on how many driver punches TCDs are getting per year. So let's just say that facility has to promote 4 people to RPCD. You sign the bid list for RPCD every quarter like you should. If you're in those top 4 in seniority who signed the bid list, you'll get in. Then it's 4 year from that point to top pay. So, basically it depends on staffing. I hope that helps. Look out for my livestream where I'll answer questions. I'll post the time and date in my community section!
@@BrickedOutMedia thank you for your time to answers my question! the grind starts!
I pass integrad hopefully i make my 40 days 😫
I think you guys deserve atleast 65hr or more ups no A/C smh ... my respects to all those people who drive for ups ...
Thanks for your comment. Respect!
Worked in a different warehouse when I was 18 and I did driver helper 2022 Christmas. Now 19 in a smaller warehouse keeping my head down and continuing to push through these early morning preload shifts. The videos are very informative and helpful with my goal to be a driver. I always have to tell myself, all drivers had to go through the same thing to get to that level. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for you comment and sharing. You are an inspiration, keep pushing!
Im a driver out of Belleville, Illinois. Anyone know anything about the Orion update that will lock you on a stop and you’ll have to do that stop? That’s the rumor everyone is freaking out about.
Logically speaking, I don't get freaked out about rumors. I honestly think it's a waste of energy. Think about it, if it's true, then when it's here, we'll just have to adjust..........what else could you do? But, if it's not true, then people just freaked out for nothing. Either way, there's not much you can do about it but stress yourself out. Just my 2 cents. Also, anyone can start a rumor. One thing about this internet, people just be talking a lot of times. Lol
How does a TCD turn into a FT Driving position exactly? I know of guys who have been TCD for couple years. Then how does FT Driver get to bid on a route? I get its Seniority but is there anything else to it?
Buildings and/or centers promote TCDs to FT drivers whenever the staffing situation indicates. If TCDs are getting a certain amount of driver punches per year, that's how the building or center know how many more FT drivers are needed. From there, they choose from the FT driver bid list, and it goes from there. As far as the routes, each center has a certain amount of bid routes. Once they go down the seniority list every 2 years, you bid on a route. If there's a route still available by the time they get to your name, you can choose that route. For instance, my center has about 80 drivers with about 58 bid routes. Now, most days theres more than 58 routes on the road, but only 58 are available to be bid on. I hope that helps.
Oh you right down the street from me in lake charles
!!!😆. I'm from Louisiana originally.
UPS is easy compared to USPS because y'all don't have to walk the streets lol stop complaining
@@THEENDIZHERE I’m not complaining. Do you drive for USPS? Because all of the USPS drivers in my area don’t walk the neighborhoods nor the streets. You’re just talking smdh .
@BrickedOutMedia I Don't work for USPS, but I did forget about rural carriers lmao. Y'all job seems so easy since it's just unloading packages.
@@THEENDIZHERE You have no idea. Most people aren't fit for this job. All deliveries have to go to the door. Plus, our weight limit is 150 lbs......that's for 1 package. Even USPS drivers know that they wouldn't make it at UPS, so they stay at USPS even though they know they'd be paid a lot more at UPS.
@BrickedOutMedia The mail carriers have to deliver mail, ads, and packages in their bag while walking 16 miles a day. UPS has it easy lmao
@@THEENDIZHERE I don’t take trolls serious.
I'm ready I start driving school end of this month. I'm tired of working 2 jobs 13 hours a day but last 15 hours during the day with a break in between. I definitely wouldn't mind working 11 hours or 10 hours at ups I'm ready
Congrats! The time has come to execute. Make sure you study the materials. Good luck and report back!!
@BrickedOutMedia you had to recite the 10s word for word exactly or you wouldn't be hired?
Great load.
AGREED! My loader is A1
@@BrickedOutMedia im kind of jealous. My loads never ever look that good.
@@aloesecretinc Wow, that's crazy. Not to rub it in or anything like that, but maybe I should do more videos showing several days/weeks from my loader. Anyone can have a good day loading, but maybe I should show that this is pretty normal.....
@@BrickedOutMedia good loaders are hard to find. Proper load methods, bulk stop positions, over 70s, these loaders are never taught correctly.
@@aloesecretinc That’s a fact!
Im a constrution worker in the pipe fitting field. Do you think ill make it here? My current package is $71 take home is $46.. but i want to give ups a try already did a road test and passed with them

@BrickedOutMedia man for some reason after all the process of doing the road test and passing it they denied my application . Kinda sucks I think I got put on a no re hire list I worked ups 12 years ago as a seasonal helper I never finished the season just stopped showing up the pay was not that good at the time and had to find something better.
@@penguinworldorder3545 Man for whatever reason it sucks. I agree, 12 years ago the pay did suck. Thanks for tapping in!
Hey man for drivers test do you want you to turn by using hand over hand?
@@RolandoMadrigal-ey8sk Is this the initial Driver’s test before training?
@@BrickedOutMedia yes, I finished the online course now going for drive test with supervisor
@@RolandoMadrigal-ey8sk They just really want to make sure you can safely handle the vehicle, nothing super technical. Good luck!
I have to complete my pre intergrad testing and then go to Chicago I think. I came off the streets. I passed my road test because I been a driver for Sysco for 15 years
What do I do now. I really want to drive trailers
The tractor trailers, we call them feeders, you have to drive package car first. Then it goes by seniority. Once you're a permanent package car driver, you would have to sign the bid list to go into feeders, and like I said, it goes by seniority. Realistically, it could take years, because feeder drivers don't retire often. I hope that helps.
Signed up for seasonal and single day vacation driver

I'm at FedEx Express and it's taking a toll on my body. My route is 9 to 12 hours.
@@ThaRiddler Thanks for your comment. How many years have you done and how many more years do you plan to do?
@BrickedOutMedia I've been a courier for 5 years. There's been ups and downs. Had a full-time route for the last 3 years. My route now I've only had for 3 months and it's a the one that 9 to 12 hrs daily. I don't know how long I can take this. Thinking about becoming a manager.
@@ThaRiddler So, what are the other reasons why you would want to become a manager besides the long hours and it taking a toll on your body?
@BrickedOutMedia well I'll be 40 soon. I believe it's best to advance my career while I'm still somewhat young. Also, the pay is salary as a manager and I think it'll be better for financial budgeting getting the same amount every week.
@@ThaRiddler At Fedex, are you able to go back and be a driver once you're in management? I'm just asking because at UPS, you're not able to. And of course I understand UPS is unionized and Fedex isn't, I'm just curious.
If you’ve never had to scratch and crawl to grind so hard in your life, this job ain’t it for you. I’m telling you straight up. I did restaurant work for 10+ years and experienced homelessness twice before working at UPS. I’ll be 4 years come this January and hitting top scale. And I’m grateful for every moment of my life. Are there days where volume and weather and all the other factors you can’t control suck? Absolutely! If you have a weak poor low mindset, this isn’t it for you. A lot of the old timers I work with, I’ve learned it’s about the end game. Get in, do your time, and you’ll be fine. It’s a mindset. Also, I’m in my 30s with no kids no wife. So it makes absolutely 100% sense for me to get my bread. Do I miss out on potential partners/lovers? Sure, but that’s why there’s dating apps and people who know people. Lol I digress. Working at UPS will set you up long term. Work life balance is a challenge; sacrifices will need to be made. One last thing also, I think the biggest thing is taking care of your body and maintaining + prioritizing it should be #1. Health insurance is hands down the best. I get my nuts check, fertility tests, went to the ER only paid $25, CT scan free, get personal foot molds made by a podiatrist, chiro visits are cheap, I see my therapist once a week for $10 sessions, dental free, I mean you name it. I average about 25K steps a day and am in great shape. Times were tough during the pandemic and still is if you want to buy a house and live comfortably. If you find something better go for it. To each their own. I love what I do and don’t plan to leave. Heck if you leave, better for guys like me to move up in seniority. Woohoo yay! Thanks for the video. Keep it up.
@@roleplayer14 Thanks for your comment and congrats on all of your perseverances. You hit many great points. The main reason why I made this video is because I hear all of the negativity and complaining both in person and online. So, I decide to make a video to help people mine out whether they should quit or not. But, I’m with you, it’s a no brainer for me!
Does ups keep seasonal drivers? I want to take the job but I also don’t want to be unemployed come February. There’s literally zero information online about seasonal package delivery drivers. I completed Integrad precourse
The short answer to your question is typically no. Was that the only position that was open to apply for? If there's a TCD(temporary cover driver) position open, I would take that one instead. That means that you would be a permanent employee and after the peak season, you'll just work inside until they need you to drive again. It's been a very few instances where UPS will "keep" seasonal drivers, but you would have to be reclassified as a permanent employee. In those instances, the staffing situation probably warranted it. I hope this helps.
@@BrickedOutMedia I’m probably gonna go with the other job option I had lined up then. Where I live at ups rarely hires, I read some stories about seasonal drivers being hired on after the season but they said those are slim chances of that happening
@@UncleG33 Yes, I agree. Good luck!!
I love my job. Its intense, hard work, on an industrial route, but getn into the resis where all the kids know my name, and love to see me... Thats what makes my day great.
