Absolute waffle
Thank you - My son has just applied - listening to your story and insight, has eased my mind
Madam , you are talking rubbish. I served 22 years from 1967 and none of your list applies. I did my basic training at HMS St Vincent and we all breezed through our basic training without any of the rubbish you quoted relevant Get it right!

Has this lady gone through basic training herself. I went through basic training at HMS St Vincent in 1967 and walked it without the silly list this person prescribed. I spent 22 years in the Royal Navy without this supercilious middle class supposed advice. What does she know about basic Naval training. So Dr get a life and don’t interfere in something you know nothing about !
Very changed to my time. Not so sure you had to stand up all the time and no idea about the country club.
I served 12 years from 1979 and have n3ver had a day out of work thanks to the Navy !!
Remember training is not the Ryal Navy, it is training.
I'm sorry ..but have you gone through training yourself? Collingwood wasn't as hard in terms of kit muster but you had extra activities, rounds, duties and cleaning to do ..on top of that you had more technical work ... The rest of the phases were all pass and fail ones and you were held to high standards throughout ... And then the actual work was far harder and tougher with greater pressures responsibilities and work rate ... Limitations of rights and so on .... The RN is not a "pass basic training and then it's fine forever more"
Going in September 💪 (im 17)
See you there
@@Lia_punpkin069whats your insta im goin in sept swell
Hahaha at CTCRM they encouraged smoking. Week 1 nobody smoked. By week 10 everyone did.
Thank you so much for this video, I can’t decide what to do with my future and the Royal Navy is what I’m leaning towards but it also makes me super anxious to think about.
same here. im pretty set on the navy but i dont know what role
Don't join the Navy. Look at the Royal Fleet Auxiliary instead. Far better terms and conditions.
I joined up in March 84 aged 17',and it scared the S@#t out of me, but after the first 2: weeks I settled in, My tenior at Raleigh was the best 14 weeks I ever experienced, hard work but full of laughs, tears and sweat,I encourage anyone to give it a go, Cmon don't be a Jack n Danny, join the Navy and learn what life is really about.
Have you ever done the initial training ????????
Your commentary is aufful very echoey didi you check before you uploaded it ,some of the things you are spouting are nonsense???!!!!!
I did my basic training at HMS Ganges, which tells you how ancient I am, but i had 4 drafts to HMS Raleigh in the sickbay during my 22 years, twice as the sickbay chief. Every time I returned the training had evolved as had the trainees who passed through., The key to get through basic training, get your head down, don't try to be a smart arse, just concentrate on the week ahead, each week is different listen to what's been said and what they want, arrive with a decent level of fitness, you will be fitter at the end, as long as you show willingness and give everything you have that will be fine, if they think your slacking you will find out very quickly how difficult life can become. It's designed to instill the team ethic, you're part of a team, you are as only as strong as your weakest member, and finally, basic training is not the Royal Navy, that is the reward and prize on passing out, eventually joining your first ship or boat. At the end when you pass out, you will be joining the Senior Service, rich in tradition and joining an extended family whether those still serving or those of us who have served. I am still in contact with lads I joined up with 50 years ago, you and your classmates share a special bond at the end of the 10 weeks. As the advert said, born in ***** made in the Royal Navy.
I live in Brazil, and work in a public education, in the construction sector, i want to increase our class roon and school.
Could somebody get an 'um' counter on this please
My son starts on the 9th and we’ve all been watching your very informative video. Thank you
Thanks it was great insight
For the initial training, i can run and swim well but i can't do a pull up (my upper body strength is not the best because i'm quite slim), will this be a big problem.
Did you join in the end?
10 tips to get you through raleigh.... never having been through raleigh. avoid this channel. or take it with a massive spoonful of salt!
Why? I’m trying to get into the navy and the advice here seems pretty decent.
as far as I'm aware, her daughter has been through the training, as she stated in the video. So she has checked this with her daughter to ensure she is giving useful advice.
@@frogthingg take it with a pinch of salt. my sons in a football academy- does that make me qualified to give advice on how to become a football pro. absolutely not. speaking from someone that is serving. just be aware.
Thank you 🎉
I’m very unfit and really socially awkward so I struggle to make friends… I’ve been looking at going into the navy but I don’t know if I’ll survive. I’m also really worried that I won’t be able to make friends with all the other people :/
Trust me you’ll make friends no matter what
Did you join
@@barbiejoanne_jojonot yet, I’m still 15 so I’m going to join when I’ve finished school.
1. attitude, your attitude to the training is the most important thing. 2. you will never attain the required standards, because the standard will always rise 3. fitness, there are various fitness tests to pass, you need to improve through out training 4. boots, you polish the polish not the boots. someone will be good at boots, but can not iron a shirt, work it out between you in the messdecks. the instructors have seen every trick there is, they did it themselves, you will not fool them, so dont try to. 5. extra socks, you are issued with uniform and that is all you will wear, dont over pack you have no real storage 6. smoking, up early, bed late, active all the time. you really are not going to get to smoke and it is actively discourged. give up as it will drive you crazy and is an extra pressure on yourself. 7. friends, your instructor is not a friend. those on the same messdeck will share the same things, look out for each, you will be together 24/7 8. mindset, 10 long weeks, but they are weeks to take you into the navy mindset, example, cleaning and polishing brass fire points, you are checking that it will work when you need it to. a warship is full of fuel, explosives etc, you want things to go bang when you want them to. 9. good iron, steam, steam, steam. 10. when you pass out of raleigh, the sense of achievement is special and will be yours to own from then on
Is it not better having this from a recruit? Hopefully helpful to people joining but from first hand experience. Press ups daily, sit ups daily, 5k runs 4 times a week, with sprint finishers are more than enough as long as you push yourself. The rest is down to how much grit you have.
Such a proud moment ❤
Thanks Charlotte, hope you're well :)
Thank you for this Video from a parent who’s son is currently on the last day of week 7… congratulations to your daughter ❤
Thank you for this video! Currently I'm in my final year of uni as a STN nurse and looking to join once I qualify - hopefully the process doesn't take too long
You are doing a great job on your channel!! Wow, you need to research P R O M O S M!!!
You are the type of parent that makes recruits fail!
it's not about you !! now I bet your some 2 stripe officer cadet who failed lmao
Great video! I have a question regarding push ups. After I fell badly on my wrist last year I’ve always had pain when doing press ups, and not just pain that stops after a day, pain that lasts at least a week. Is this a big problem
If that's the case you need to get a scan
I just came from cpc and unfortunately it will be, I'm prepping for imf and the first thing they tell you is that push ups are both integral to the fitness test and also a form of punishment, if you struggle doing a certain amount then it could be useful to get it checked prior
if you’re trying to join, it could cause you to fail your medical in the pre candidate course so i’d inform your AFCO and speak to them about the possibility of that happening. you don’t want to get all the way up to edinburgh and then have to go home the next day like i did 😅
I’m thinking of joining I’m in college till I’m 17 re taking my maths and English does she enjoy the navy thinking of joining after college
Wait why you telling us why isn’t she telling us so
Because she's 100 metres below the surface doing her job 😲
Just ordered mine. I've got my fitness test on the 15th but best be prepared for the next step 😁
Good luck with your fitness test. I'm sure you'll 'smash it!'.
Ordered thank you! I start basic training on 24th January 👍
Best of luck with your training.
Do you know what division your joining?
If you got any questions about basic ask away mate i might be able to help ya
Getting through basic training, arrive with an acceptable level of fitness, you will be fitter at the end of 10 weeks, don't be a smart arse, do exactly as they say, it's not rocket science, listen and learn, concentrate only on the day or week ahead, it will pass quickly, remember this is NOT the Royal Navy, its designed to ensure you succeed in the Senior Service, most importantly their are no " I's " in team. Your class will be as strong as its weakest link. All those in your class are going through exactly the same as you, at end when you pass out, you and your class mates will have a unique bond only you will understand.. you will leave at the start of a great adventure. I write this as someone who, had 4 drafts to Raliegh, every time I returned the training and trainee had evolved but the basics and foundations remained the same and you will all be members of the Senior Service. My basic training was done at the other place, that's how ancient I am.
any idea if females press ups are expected to be proper form or are we able to do them on our knees, going in soon and press ups have been my biggest problem.
It will be normal press ups definitely
yes, full ones but press ups aren't part of the fitness test..they are in the RAF but not in the Navy... you just do them in the IMFs.
I’m joining on Monday 12 july, I’m just nervous 😬
Good luck Daniel. Just give 100% and you'll be great!

@@2010Whites Thank you,from x merchantman,lovely lady
Great video. I’m joining November and my only concern is I’m 29 and going to be around teenagers that haven’t got a clue 😂
There's plenty of 'more mature' recruits there. There be some in their 30s, as well as others who are just 17. But, I don't think age is always a reflection of maturity - I think you'll find ;-) I think there was one 16 year old with my daughter's division.
You definitely get a whole big variety! I joined when I was 18, and most people were between 22-27 with some 30 year old and a few 16/17 year olds, you’ll be surprised how everyone just gets on regardless of age. There was one really annoying 16 year old but just get on with it as not going to get on with everyone such is life, but you’ll be surprised how she doesn’t matter really
@@mallaig33 👊🏻 got it
I was 37 when I applied in December 2020 for the Engineering Technician (Marine Engineering) position. 38 when I had my formal interview, and if Capita get their act together with my medical assessment, I'll hopefully get a start date towards the end of the year or early next year when I'll be nearly 39. I had a chat with my recruiter after my interview about the age factor, and he said the same as any recruit, they break you down and build you back up in the militarised way that's needed, but he also told me that the instructors might have a word in your ear about the young recruits who're hanging stuff out of windows, not pulling their weight with the kit musters and PT etc. If this does happen, I'll just use it as a way to train my social skills within a team, and how to be diplomatic and get the best out of myself and others. It could put you in good stead for later in your career.
I've worked with many teenagers, and you'll find that quite a few of them do have a clue and have excellent work ethics, take instruction well, and just want to learn to be the best they can be. I haven't lost hope in our youth, especially when they make such rare and demanding decisions such as joining the armed forces.
why are you called a DR
Because I have a PhD.

What was your daughters home life like after raleigh during her phase 2 ? As i know you are allowed to go home after phase 1 ?? And also during phase 1 is the weekend they're own time to chill out etc ?
My daughter only had the weekend 'off' after finishing basic training. She 'passed out' on the Friday and started phase 2 on the Monday. She's a submariner and her phase 2 was also at Raleigh. Yes, she had weekends off and it was much much more relaxed then basic training! You're allowed 'out' when you want pretty much. Some of her friends had 'hold over' for a few weeks before they started their training; depends on the branch you're going into etc.
Passed through HMS RALEIGH September 1979 ,,then went to HMS CAMBRIDGE, and I loved all of it ,just get on with it do lots of revision and try to keep ahead of the game ,then I proudly joined HMS INTREPID ,travel the world including the Falklands and did my bit .
I joined on the 4th June 1979 so we must of been there at the same time !
Shaving foam at the Naffi. Or is not that in existence anymore
I don't believe you're allowed to go to the NAAFI until week 5.
My brother joined 3 years before me - I joined in 1980. He had already taught me how to bull up my boots And keep good kit. I could already run well as did cross country at school and rugby. Thirty joined up -28 of us were 16 and 2 were 18. Fitness and kit are a lot of it as well as square bashing, Gym is probably the most disciplined part of it. Swimming test, shooting, damaged control and firefighting as well as assault courses. They have probably added more since I was in. You get maths and English tests, naval knowledge and church parade. As well as passing out parades. You really do bond as a group. It takes you through civilian to being grooved into the naval life.
Thanks Anthony. What Branch did you go to after Raleigh?
Hi Charlotte. I went in as what was called a stores accountant but now called logistics. I wanted to be a marine engineer but unfortunately found out that I was colour blind. I just wanted to be in so this was the job I picked in the end.
Its easy listen dont think do what your told ! But the biggest trick that they dont tell you is work as a team !
Is that a mothers list or a Generals list?
Very handy info thanks
You have to bring your own iron ?
Yes! and it's worth buying a good one!
