Hi, I’m Bob Nuss from the Nuss Collection. Here’s a beautiful 1963 815 SX that we built as a tribute to my dad, Charlie Nuss, who became a Mack dealer in 1959. The first truck my dad sold was very similar to this one, which he sold to Charlie Ein Construction in Rockford, Illinois.
Charlie Ein was known for his remarkable achievement of paving one mile of concrete road per day-a tremendous feat even by today’s standards. The truck he purchased from my dad back then was equipped with a Cummins engine, whereas this truck originally came with a Mack V8 END 864. It has since been repowered with a Mack six-cylinder ENDT 673 with a turbo.
This truck is quite special to me, as I vividly remember my dad showing me the first check he received for selling a new truck-$17,775. I was a junior in high school at the time, and that amount of money was significant. This 815 SX is a lot like that first truck, reflecting the beginning of our journey with Mack Trucks, which continues to this day.
