While both FJ Cruisers sport 285-wide tires, they differ slightly in their overall size. The silver FJ runs a 285/70R17, while the grey FJ has a slightly larger 285/75R16 setup. This means the grey FJ's tires have a taller sidewall, giving it a bit more ground clearance and a slightly more rugged look.

@Laval1 I'm thinking about 285/70R17 but have no suspension lift. Some people say that this size fits okay with stock suspension. Some people claim that you have to do the body mount chop. What you can say about it?

@@lazy_goodwill Hey there! Good question about the body mount chop. Neither of the FJs in the video have had that done, but they both have a 2 inch lift. From my experience, with 285/70R17s you shouldn't need a body mount chop, even on stock suspension. You might get a little rubbing at full lock depending on your wheel offset, but it's usually minor. If you do end up with some rubbing, you can always make some adjustments before going for the chop. @@Laval1 Thank you! I suppose it may also depend on particular tire's tread and tread's shoulder form. But I think I will get Maxxis RAZR MT mounted with stock rims. Like yours. I've heard lots of good reviews on this model. Actually it looks like it's the one and only mud tires you guys use in Australia 😁

Exactly! The camera really doesn't do justice to those steep inclines. It makes the challenge even more rewarding when you conquer them in real life.

An FJ Cruiser with stock tires can easily handle this with the right tyre pressure and traction control disabled in 4H. There are a few entrances to Julimar Forrest NP and the coordinates of the entrance where most challenging tracks are found is 31°29'40.3"S 116°14'54.0"E It's going to take me a bit of time to map out all the tracks and waypoints from our trip, but I'm definitely working on it! This time of year, the tracks are absolutely saturated with water and mud - a total playground for those who love a challenge! But be warned, it's easy to get stuck or even submerge your vehicle if you're not careful. Always proceed with caution when encountering waterlogged sections of the trail.

I always engage 4-low for dune climbs. Gear selection depends on the approach: Long Run-Up: I start in 4th gear to build momentum, then downshift to 2nd (usually) once I hit the steepest section. Short Run-Up: With a limited approach, I head straight into 2nd gear for maximum torque and control.

@@Laval1great info mate, I tried 4L with 3rd gear with very high revs and the engine sounds like it’s about to explode lol… can’t imagine with 2nd gear, gonna try it out next time
