Wow I didn't expect there to be so many vehicles on the road in the 40's. I don't remember town roads be anywhere near that busy with vehicles in the 60/70's.
Great production
Brilliant thank you

This is a great song! Now you’re going to have to do one about the door plug on the Max 9
Fascinating... My grandparents and their forebears were from Burnley...my parents too. I was born at Bramley Meade. As kids, my brother and I were taken with family members, every Sunday, to the Congregationalist chapel in Burnley (since demolished) on, "I don't remember street", possibly Manchester Road (?). I have very strong memories of those days. Many names and locations in this slide show are very familiar to me, although many are now unrecognizable. I have been away for 50 years. It was a pleasure to have childhood memories invoked by this video :-)
Thank you for your memories. I'm pleased you found these photographs interesting.
Looking at the similarities between the proud hard working people Of old Burnley in this footage compared to the generation of Burnley people in 2024 videos on you tube . Todays people look depressed haggard and lost in there own world. With no way out.. They need rescuing
Better days without this forced upon us diversity!
You can see where I grew up from 1983-1990. Miss the place I really do. So much life, so much bustle and so much heart.
I see nothing much hs changed.
The average IQ has dropped considerably since then.
I remember this from years ago and was delighted to find it here. What a sublimely joyous moment.
Thank you Roderick. Yes it's wonderful isn't it.
Fantastic pictures. Thank you for sharing.
Lancashire was some place in its heyday wasn’t it. So vibrant and industrious.
The great thing back then was so few cars on the roads
The roads look an absolute free for all!
Amazing thanks for this 🙂
My uncle and aunt owned one of those wee bungalows.
people were as thick back then as now.
Please explain..
ah them memorys
Do you know where to buy their cds from?
Richard Griffiths !
Is that Angela Baddeley?!
must have been the best days then
I think of this place as it use to a medieval town with a historic past. I've heard about this American Smith kin to the Townley's of Lancashire. I love looking into what use to be old Lancashire! Thanx for putting up these old photos! Oh, from the United State of America and Commonwealth of Virginia!
Kierby Hotel still an eyesore
Dave pod’s vocals are sublime
Someone had a bit of time on their hands during lock down and what a wonderful thing to do, thank you Sir.
I recognise Aegeon from Nicolas Nickleby.
Loved this!
Just like a Lowry painting at 18’24 . A wonderful collection of photos.......priceless.
Thank you David.
Duke Bar very recognizable....even without takeaways , etc....
I see even then cyclists were a pain in the arse.
anyone remember st johns ivy street 1950s?
Times gone by, was it better then? Certainly brings back real memories of a town I knew. Thank you.
See how Christian women wore a head covering, and muslims are being banned and judged for wearing head coverings. So many Christians dont even know that covering of the hair is also in christianity too
That was the style back then - Most of the men wore head coverings too. It dated from back before sewage systems or indoor plumbing became common. Chamber pots would often be emptied by throwing the contents out of the window! By the late 1800s that was no longer a danger but the amount of soot and clinkers in the air from the steam engines was not something you really wanted in your hair.
To keep warm ...not as as a suppressive veil ..they were wool..
Wonderful photos of simpler times. No litter, no graffiti, no minorities. People worked hard and knew their place in the world.
I wonder what these people would think of there town now 🤔 Pakistani, Indian ,Mosques, temples ,sad sad sad .Good old England gone to shit .
14:24 Is Belvedere rd turf moor on the right of the picture
My grandfather used to tell me that we were related to the Towneleys of Burnley. And it was fun when the woman at the front desk at Towneley Hall had me sign the registry. But when I was doing geneological research at the Burnley library a librarian told me that we were NOT related to the Towneleys, at least not in England. That's where that story stands at the moment. Anyway, love these photos of Old Burnley.
Thank you for that interesting information Jess.

The camper van belonged to the pilot. Hockings. Filmed from the upper bar of the Beach Hotel.
