    Its the empty hole on the top of the saddle, next to the two screws connecting the saddle to the apron. Should be a square screw that connects to a small cast iron part below.

  • @MuhammadZamanTheGreat
    @MuhammadZamanTheGreat 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is an old video, but you are missing the apron/saddle lock screw. It keeps the front of the saddle down.

      great catch, I found that out when I looked at the documentation on how to adjust the saddle. I've found a replacement screw and bought a used "nut" for underneath.

    Before you embark on an unending saga of misery...The Spindle bearings make or break a lathe. Replacing them is the most difficult task...and GOOD A+ spindle bearings cost $$$$. Every other problem and solution with a old/pre-owned/surplus/worn lathe is less difficult and sometimes a pleasant experience. Start by checking out YT spindle bearings tech videos. I cheapened out on new spindle bearings on a lathe rebuild and I actually downgraded the rigidity. Good Luck!

    • @joeheck146
      @joeheck146 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, I've been using the lathe for probably 10+ years and haven't had any problems but that is subjective. So, I decided to do a further test (another video I've just put out) after looking at some of the YT spindle videos. Not as clean as some of them but it gave me a real good result. I'm now confident that the main bearing is practically good as new.

      Hi, and thanks for the comment. The one I used in the snow is gas powered continental R08(R839-46) engine, water cooled 4 cylinder, I think it is 19.8 hp @3450 rpm.. The model of the machine is 30774 (1976 model). The 217-D machine in the basement garage is a Mitsubishi KE75 type 61TG, 17 hp at 3000 rpm. It has been a while since I ran the 217 but as I recall, the machine itself seems O.K. but the snowblower attachment is not sturdy enough. I was always changing belts, bearings, chains. The shape of the chute and auger area is fine and snow flowed pretty well through it, but it seemed every storm I had issues with the snowblower power train.

    Hi, very reliable engine. All parts available from UK or India. On flywheel there should be fan. TDC and that second mark is for fuel pump timing through that square window in aluminium cover. First should take of head and cylinder. Lister original colour is green, that's why it is on flywheel and looks like on head and other parts of engine. Get manual which are available, measure and see what should be changed, by look at that big end bearing looks like neglected by not changing oil and of course water and rust, it is very good sign that you could turn over engine. Wire wheel does miracle.

    • @joeheck146
      @joeheck146 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comments. Fan is on back side of flywheel, taking head off is easy, everything looked good in there. Was stumped for a while trying to remove governor shaft. Figured out that the pins in the supports are free and only held in place by the cover. Pulled the pins and governor came off, so I could get to the cam. Just waiting for parts now. Have manual and parts catalog from web, helped a lot. I actually found sources for what I need in the U.S.A., where I am. Yes, the bearing I pulled, which I refer to as the rod bearing is being changed. Should have the parts in a few days, then I'll reassemble.

    You may have been welding for 50 years but you don’t understand that you have work hardened the steel that is why your cutter is struggling?

    • @joeheck146
      @joeheck146 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. If I wasn't so lazy at the time I would have set it up on my Bridgeport where I think I could control the process better. I did not show enough detail but I don't think I had the proper shape for the cutter either. Interestingly enough, I did not have the trouble on the edge where I welded. (I may have been welding for 50 years but maybe not correctly!)

      Hi Alan, I have a mig that also does flux core but the duty cycle is not good on hi current. Plus I don't have any gas. I grew up on stick welding so for big stuff I don't mind.
