Welcome to my guitar channel. I have been a pro guitarist for 20 years and I'm excited to have the opportunity to share my passion for all things guitar. You may have come across my work as a long standing contributor for Guitar Techniques Magazine and Total Guitar Magazine. I have also toured and recorded with many top 40 artists and I've been a member of the Shakin' Stevens band since 2007. You may also have heard some of my guitar playing which I use as backing tracks for my sister channel Jon Bishop Skate. I plan to record tutorial videos and gear reviews so grab your guitar and get ready to rock.
I Recorded A Live Jazz Combo In My Home Studio!

@@massimax3546 many thanks 🙏
could you share the schematics? I would be incredibly greatful!
Hey dude, Many thanks for checking in. I’m afraid my tech did the mods, but there are loads of diagrams on the net for the mods in this video? Best JB
Pete Townshend???
💯 yeah, I put together a follow up video as 10 wasn’t enough and he was in !!
Do you have any spring reverb on this? I saw bb in Bournemouth in the early 2000s with my old man. Reminds me I caught buddy guy in Poole too!
Nice! Yeah a touch of spring reverb, well spotted !
Nice to see an old Line 6 Pod on standby, lol. Maybe you can do a vid to show if it still has some use for you beyond a nod to an old friend from times past! Great studio btw,
Yeah dude, It’s got a couple of sounds that I can’t get anywhere else. There is an EVH preset I programmed and a U2 delay one that are just the ticket !!
This sounds amazing!! I wasn't expecting it to have such a magazine sound, if you know what i mean.
Ha ha, jazz magazine indeed !
Mmmmmmm jazz 😎 - great little number that! Well done boys.
Great fvk awesome tune i wish you to be my friend man
wow great result! What mac are you using in your studio? Still a Mac Mini or a Mac Studio?
Yeah dude, it’s the Mac mini, still going strong!
@@JonBishopGuitar Fantastic! you make everything work superwell not only guitars! 🤩
Quality work from all four of you! 🔥
Thanks for tuning in !!
many thx for posting this wonderful music! best vibes from a jazz and percussionfan from austria
Neil Young!!
Great video and great studio Jon!! I remember you did a video about your studio gear, I would love to see it again! Just a question do you use a HW channel strip for recording with plugins? I remember you used UA solo 610 as channel strip... am I right?
Hey there, Many thanks for the feedback. Well remembered! Yes I use the UA Solo as a mic pre and also the Pre’s in the UA Apollo. The main channel strip I use is the SSL plugin in the Apollo. The latest video is a bit more studio based?! th-cam.com/play/PL0IRwyEUZHj-Yl5qbje3e5j96qRJhxSxz.html&si=bf1LA8ZTI-RoXPvR
Dave Mustaine?
Indeed !
missing Rick Parfitt
You took the conventional wisdom template, although you I agree with half or so of your picks , one major player who’s mostly associated with lead playing is Jimmy Page he’s arguably better at rhythm, his chord structures his progressions , and as you know being the only guitar player in the band , he needed to put down a solid rhythm , he actually got some input from John McLaughlin, when they were both in the studio as session players , give it a listen . IMHO. Cheers
Many thanks for the feedback
Wow it sounds awesome!! Is the bare knuckle wax potted or unpotted? Thanks
Yes, wax potted by hand
@@JonBishopGuitar oh cool! Thanks for answering!!
Great video. I'm also about to do this and I live in Redruth ✌️ where did you decide to get the cabin from?
Hey dude, I ordered the Cabin online, I think they are much of a muchness. The single garage ones were way cheaper than the garden room style?
Oh no way you skate AND do music. Met at Newquay in May skating already saw your skate stuff so I just googled garden music studio and here you are again haha amazing
😂
Hi, would you help to share what are the values on the pots and caps? thanks
Hey there, sadly I don’t know?
Hey! what's the song in Malcolm's part?
Hey dude, many thanks for tuning in! it’s a piece I put together for Guitar Techniques Magazine, ‘in the style’ of Malcolm, so not an AC/DC song per se.
@@JonBishopGuitar Oh! I see. It sounds really nice anyway. Thank you!
Great choice of rhythm guitar players, and nicely presented. Subscribed.
Many thanks for tuning in!
For punk, you should have Stephen Egerton from the descendants and all. He’s tight, intense, and really has his own style.
Great song, played so well! Newquay Cornwall! See you at the skatepark someday!
Many thanks for tuning in !!
Rick Parfitt
thinking about doing something similar. did u have any concerns about ventilation and moisture? seems to be the only thing i'm stuck figuring out right now. lots of different answers online. thanks
Two and a half years in and no issues. The breather membrane seems to work a treat. I definitely went overboard with the ground membranes, but is was worth it as no damp. We have had the worst winter on record for rain ☔️ so it’s been tested well. I work in here for hours at a time, no issues to report?
I guess a key thing I didn’t really go into was leaving air gaps between the layers. It goes 40mm logs, breather membrane, air gap, rock wool, gap, OSB, acoustic plasterboard
You give lessons?
Yes, feel free to DM me on instagram @jonbishopguitar best JB
Funk vibessss! Cory Wong should see this! Your guitar tone + the funky tune reminds me of the collab Cory and Joe Satriani did!
Many thanks for tuning in !
This is absolutely beautiful!
Many thanks for tuning in !
thanks a lot. But what are the 3# for?
Many thanks for the comment, Well spotted! yes an oversight on my part, I’ve been editing the same chart for a series of backing track videos, and I seem to have forgotten to change the key dig here 😢
great vid mate!
Many thanks for tuning in dude!
Great ideas ! I’ll have to try some of these! I do have a Lincoln Brewster Strat that has the TBX Boost circuit and it’s great to have. Also I have an Ultra Luxe Tele with the out of phase using the S-1 switch. I like the idea of having a couple of push / pull or fender S-1 pots to have these mods added. I also like the idea of a tele bridge pickup on a Strat, especially if you’re adding the neck or bridge add / always on mod like yours has! Thanks
Yeah dude! The S1 switching is great for sure!
Steve Miller. Awesome right hand.
Great lesson! Big influence on John Mayer's style - have you considered a lesson on the raking type technique SRV/Mayer uses for some solos? Also a minor point, but time coding the various sections would be great too 👍
Many thanks for all the great input! Yes, a raking video would be fun, not sure how to time code, but it’s a great idea and I’ll look into it ! Best Jon
Time codes or time stamps!
Nice lesson man!
Many thanks for tuning in!!
My Top 3: 1) Tony Iommi 2) Glenn Tipton/KK Downing 3) Keith Richards/Brian Jones/Mick Taylor
Love that guitar! I have a 1976 Ash/Maple neck. I love the grain of the ash. I replaced the pick-ups with Dimarzio YJM pickups. It sounds just like the originals but without the hum. I pair it to 2 Marshall 100W leather faces from the same year. Total Blackmore sound!
Nice 👌
As far as I know, locking tuners don’t “increase tuning stability”. Did you mean that the old ones were knackered, so you installed new ones?
Yeah, in terms of tuning stability with a tremolo system locking tuners improve tuning stability. There is less string going around the peg to stretch and slip. Also the locking mechanism fully clamps the string in place. But the old ones were shot too !
Great playing, and it sounds and looks fantastic. That trem sounds really solid. Was it a direct fit for your strat, or did you have to drill, adjust, etc?
Hey dude, Yeah Wilkinson makes/used to make a direct replacement for the 1970s spec. It’s a wierd one as the string spacing was slightly closer together in the 1970s? This is a two point fixing that lines up with the two outside holes, but I put brass slugs in to help take the extra tension also ?!
@@JonBishopGuitar Brilliant. I’m looking for a good trem for my 70s Road Worn strat and that could definitely fit the bill. Thanks Jon.
That is a great sounding strat. What Fender tweed amp is that ?
Hey dude, many thanks for tuning in. The amp is the Fender Deville 2 x 12. It’s been my main amp for 20 odd years. It’s the mid 1990s, made in the USA version. Although the recent Mexico ones are ace also IMO ?!
Fantastic playing. The upgrades on the guitar are sounding great as well. Most 70's strats can use the trem upgrade...you have yours sounding like a Strat. Congrats
Many thanks for tuning in Mark !
I believe you should have not limited this to 10, one thousand and ten might have been a better idea, I grew up with rock and blues, but you should check out Jimmy Capps. Kenny Vaughan highly recommends him, which is good enough for me.
Pool coping desk is sick
Ha, couldn’t resist!
Nice lesson, you're a good teacher... even if I don't find Albert King interesting, it's a question of taste I suppose.
Many thanks for the feedback! Yes all a matter of taste for sure !! Who is your favourite blues guitarist out of interest?
@@JonBishopGuitar Matt Schofield
@@gabinacu777 ah yes, good shout !
Is there space for an acoustic drum kit? Would that be to loud and PO the neighbors?
Many thanks for tuning in. Yes, I have a small sized setup that I can put together. Sounds fine, it’s not as soundproof as my old live room, but I can record a guitar amp or small kit without any issues? TBH I mostly use the V drums to trigger superior ?
Cool lesson, Jon! Big influence on Gary Moore too - Albert famously advised him to play every other lick - a lesson in restraint for many of us, that ;)
Many thanks for tuning in! Less is more unless you are Yngwie 😂
@@JonBishopGuitar Ha! There’s always that - I guess some people can’t have too much more! 👍
Cant argue with the list. All solid candidates. What is the Niles Rogers song you were playing? Some other candidates: 1) David Lowery (Cracker) - solid rhythm like a metronome 2) Colin Meloy (Decemberists) 3) John Mayer 4) Mark & Dave Knopfler (First Dire Straits Album - a desert island Disc for me) 5) Tommy Emmanuel 6) Steve Cropper 7) Pete Townsend 8) Cory Wong!!
Many thanks for the feedback Adam! The NR part is something I put together for Guitar Techniques Magazine. It’s sort of a cross between, Sister Sledge and Daft Punk. Totally agree with those extras and Cropper & Townsend both feature in my follow up vid! th-cam.com/video/HxBcuy3VAU4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZwvyRWJBQewgj-Pm
You put Bob Marley in before the Edge......wtf
Nice playing, Jon. You’ve definitely studied the king of the blues!
Many thanks dude!
