I Tried Ramadan for 1 Week (as a Non-Muslim American Living In Tunisia)
I've lived in Tunisia for 18 years and have never tried Ramadan. This year I decided to fast for a week of Ramadan as a non-Muslim living in Tunisia! Lots of ups and downs, mistakes, and new perspectives!

It’s a Tunisian dialect of Arabic!

The formal Arabic word for cow is "baqara" with a heavy q derived from the top back of the mouth. Of course each Arabic speaking country/ region has its own accent and sometimes different words for the same item/ concept. I love how varried and rich the Arabic language is. You could sometimes literally move a few kilometers and have a different word for spoon. Move in the opposite direction and you'll have a variation in accent for that spoon. The world isn't ready for a full study of accents and a dictionary of all the variations of all the words there are in Arabic♡

In catholicism christians are encouraged to fast for 40 days before eastern and what many don't know is that we used to fast during advent 40 days before christmas aswell. So in total if you were to follow traditional catholic teaching you would fast at least 80 days in the year. Protestants are probably different in this regard.

It's just as easy in America as it is where you're at you just walk all over the place. When I'm at work I walk when I'm at home I take a little quick jaunt or two around the block just to get out. I go to the store and I walk.😂

This is so funny! Something like this happened with my cousin and I. I am half Tunisian half American (my mother is Tunisian and my dad is American). And I remember when I was visiting Tunisia I wanted to show my cousin a funny video on TH-cam and I asked him if he knew what TH-cam was. He didn’t know. So I tried finding it and I realised I couldn’t get on TH-cam in Tunis. Crazy!

TH-cam wasn’t banned in Tunisia until some activists used it to share their voices then it got banned before being legal again after the arab spring.
