This complete scene was an excellent bridge from TOS to TNG. TNG gave a ton of older, beloved actors one more paycheck and fitting sendoff into the sunset of their lives. If there was ever certain scenes that encompass the realm of TV history to remember, this is one of them.

Nice bit of trivia there. Those are also two of my favorite episodes.

It's a shame that this "rapid fire" is never seen again in any other episode. They came close against the Borg but not to this level of aggressiveness. It would have come in handy in many episodes including "Yesterday's Enterprise". I'm not sure if it's Picard or the Federation in general but it seems that they're not aggressive enough against superior forces and they show too much confidence in their shields.

Why didn't they ever hit the romulans with this much fire power?
