    I have watched most if not all of your Catspit Videos. I must congratulate you on the clarity and usefulness you show.
    I have a home amateur basement workshop. I don't do T shirts just prints. I do have a pressure washer but must use it outside. so I don't clean up much in Winter. I live in Canada and every thing about our winters is true.
    i keep learning more about this screen process. Your work is certainly very encouraging.

    Thank you, my pleasure to help out. Yes, wood screens hold less tension bow with high tension and warp in the water. They are heavier and most do not stay rigid at the corners after some time. Metal screens on the other hand do not suffer any of those draw backs, they are lighter and can hold higher tensions. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    @TheSiftonStrangler Yes, you can but I would suggest doing one coat on each side. It will help with emulsion to mesh adhesion and provide for a better stencil overall. Unless you are on higher mesh counts were the stencil will be thin anyway. Then it may not matter as much. I’ve always done one on each side to encapsulate the mesh and perhaps get better bridging results. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    @anndjazz Good luck. Yea, make sure you don’t abrade the mesh too much by scrubbing with anything. Ink & emulsion should be removed mostly by solvents, not scrubbing. Be careful not to damage the mesh. The carwash spray booths may work but remember you will be washing inks, solvents and emulsion into the city water treatment system. @tpvajgert Yes, use some “de hazer” or “haze remover” in combination with a pressure washer. That should do the trick. If not the mesh is probably trashed. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @duece2kTwo The Saati chemicals I use are non hazardous and drain safe. ER2 is chemically formulated to change the Saati emulsions to latex which is acceptable by most city treatment systems. And the chemicals themselves are also city compatible. If you live in the suburbs where the waste is going into a leach field may not be so good. But always check with your local laws if you are unsure. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

    @brunoclyde34 You’re welcome; it’s my pleasure to help out in any way. Normally the metal screens are sent out for re-stretching and all you should need to do is remove the old mesh and clean ink off the frame. Otherwise you would have to use an adhesive remover or a metal power brush. Good luck! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

  • @chad7chad1

    That's EXACTLY what it appears to be! In those splotchy spots, where it peels up, it seems that the emulsion is just not sticking to the screen! I was told it was probably an issue with humidity, so I started using a dehumidifier, which didn't fix it. Then, I was thinking maybe I was under, or over, exposing the image? I also thought that maybe I was coating the screen too thick, in spots, but I scrape the emulsion off pretty good. Anyways, I'll try posting on your forum. Thanks, so much.

    You’re welcome. I had a home owner unit form Home Depot that just blew out a line this weekend actually. It was like a 1700 PSI. It didn’t have any settings to change PSI. I think I’m going to get one form RhinoTech that is a professional unit. I’m tired of replacing these things. But you use the pressure washer for reclaiming, degreasing and de hazing. Garden hose pressure is fine for washing out stencils. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    cool that's great. i'm gonna try the suggestions you emailed. i already did a bit of thinner yesterday and it made some difference but i'm worried that i'm brushing the screen with the rough cloth (i don't have a brush yet) too strongly.

    @usernamebutton If you believe you know it is not anything splashing back on the screen from the washout booth, then the only culprit left is the pressure washer. On rare occasions pressure washers will spit grease or oil out from the innards of the unit. This is normally due to grease or oil used in the manufacturing of the unit. It should eventually clean itself out.Thanks for watching & commenting! ☠

    First of all, let me just say that I love your videos. They're VERY informative and easy to follow. Now, on to my problem. I've been having an issue with the emulsion coating/spray out part of the screen printing process. The problem is, I usually get what appears to be BURN marks in the emulsion, after I spray the image out.Sometimes it actually peels the whole image away!?!?! I can send pic's to you, if you'd be willing to help. That goes for anyone. Confused and tired of wasting money!?!?!?!?

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're welcome. Haze or stains are caused by ink and emulsion that stays on the mesh fibers after reclaiming. It’s often ink embedded between fiber crossover areas and stuck to any frayed fibers. It ultimately reduces the mesh opening and chokes the stencil which can cause ink flow problems. A black stain from the previous print job can make the next job harder to print. Especially say a white ink could be impaired by a haze. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

    thanks for this helpful vid! i was wondering.. what can i do if i don't have a power washer? i found an old screen with plenty of ink on it and i want to reclaim it.
    but i don't have a pressure washer. i can get a bit of pressure on my showerhead at one of the settings. is there a slower version of the cleaning process that i can do using the showerhead instead?
    cheers!

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, it could still be staining from the ink. How old is the mesh? Is it monofilament? Sometimes when the mesh gets too worn you just have to replace it. After the mesh fibers fray too much they will hold a lot of ink and emulsion as well as decrease print resolution. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Thanks for your video. I know that some people use bleach for cleaning screens, but have also heard that bleach only works when you have mixed hardener in with your emulsion coat. I have printed through haze before though, why is it necessary to clear that haze? Thanks so much.

    Question! Why don't you use the big stainless sink to the left for washing out screens?

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @wolfrifle16 Actually I do not. My brother uses a dip tank in his shop but it is horizontal rather than vertical so he uses less chemical to fill the tank to a useful level. He says it lasts about a month or more but that depends on usage. I spray my emulsion remover on with a squirt bottle and then let it stand a minute before pressure washing. I started working in the screen printing business and they said i could use tps and degreaser together to remove the haze. i think it was tps. It works well. I been having problems reclaiming a few of my screens.i have a 1800 pressure washer and there alot easier to clean off and stuff but now im having problems with the glue holding the mesh to the screens coming loose on the top. idk. I just bought them all. thought it may been a different brand but i did another one from someone else and it did it again. I use a degreaser and dehazer in one from ryonet. it didn't do it before i had the pressure washer. but it was a pain to clean off with a garden hose

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Radioaktiv Media Try lessening the pressure by backing off. You only need about 1200 PSI but 1800 should not really do what you are describing. Have you tried my screens yet? ;) They are very good and the mesh should stay on. But if you're seeing this happen with different brand screens then perhaps try a different haze remover that is not an all in one. Not exactly sure since this does not happen that often and when it does it normally means cheap imported screens. Thanks for watching. I have a stain residue on my screen after my production runs. I have a ink stain remover chemical but it doesn't seem to work. I must admit I clean the ink out of my screen but I don't always reclaim them right away. Is that why I have the stain that does seem to come out even with my pressure washer?

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are using a haze remover and getting these results with a pressure washer the mesh may just be too worn to be cleaned anymore. At a certain point the mesh fibers will become frayed and hold ink easily where they cross. At this point you are also losing ink flow with the mesh as well. You could try a different haze remover, a better pressure washer or replace the mesh. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

      You can use anything from 1100 PSI to 2500 PSI. I have an industrial unit at about 1500 PSI. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

    How do you get a double image out of the screen. Even after reclaiming them there is still an image from other designs. How do I get rid of this?

  • @CatspitProductions
    @CatspitProductions  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to use what is called a haze remover or a stain remover. The “double image” is ink stained in between the mesh fibers. A haze remover used with a pressure washer will remove that ghost image. I have videos on this so check out my collection of uploads. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    No fumes from emulsion but the chemicals used in the washout booth can mist and get airborne. A respirator is advisable if you’re concerned. But most chemicals these days are pretty user friendly. It’s the haze removers that will be the most hazardous. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    LOL, that’s because this was a cooperative warehouse and we had to clean everything very well immediately after usage. We sub rented the place from a friend and he was insistent we didn’t “ruin” anything. I had to work immaculately there. But it wasn't as clean as it looks I think. How often should you replace the silk screen on the frame?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should last a very long time and earn its money back easily. But this video may help you out in answering that question:

    If you were working with very under exposed screens, printed with them, cleaned them and let them set the emulsion could have absorbed chemicals making it permanent. You must also use a pressure washer when reclaiming screens. But yes, under exposed emulsion can get “locked” due to absorbing other chemicals when in use. If a pressure washer and emulsion remover don’t work then they are ruined. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! ☠

    Best video I've seen on this process! Quick question, I've been left with a slight "ghost image" after completing this entire process. Is it ok to just leave that on there or should I make another attempt to get it out before I try my next run?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! You should try to remove it so it will not impede the inflow on the next print job. Use a haze or stain remover with the pressure washer for final clean up before prepping for new emulsion: catspitscreenprintsupply.com/haze-remover/ Thanks for watching! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/

    Hey man, love your videos. Do you ship to the UK?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much! I can export but it really only makes financial sense for larger equipment orders. Chemicals, inks, aerosols and such cannot fly so they need to go by ocean freight. And heavy stuff costs more on little orders than it does overall on heavier items like a few pieces of floor equipment. Thanks for watching. Let me first state that I appreciate your videos as I am still learning. I was wondering if it is alright to use my screen again even though it has a stencil stain/ghost image? Mind you, I am printing on gesso board and not fabric.

      Thank you very much! I'm happy to know you find my video work to be informational and helpful. Yes, you can do that but it may restrict the ink flow where the stain is. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
