    I had never even heard of Brompton until July 2023 when a chap on a course in London I was attending rocked up on one, "How cool is that?!" I said to him and as a Brompton lover he spent a good 10 minutes explaining to me all their virtues. I knew I had to get one, I didn't need one living in the Norfolk countryside, but something about the foldability, making it easy to store, take away on our caravan holiday, throw in the back of the car when away for work, and all this before I had even ridden one. Bought a 2023 C Line Explore in black lacquer through Cycle Scheme at work which takes the pinch out of the expensive entry point. Once I had ridden it I was totally hooked, how can something this unconventional be such a hoot to ride?! I now also have a retired commuter 2009 M3L as my "winter bike" as I just had to have one that I could use through the salty weather and keep my "fancy one" for the nicer weather. I have a tiny office at home and I can fit both of them in with ease and they are such a nice thing to look at (IMO) that it puts a smile on my face everyday...
    Loving your Brompton videos, keep them coming! 🙂

    For me, the unique part is that it is still useful even while folded. It's my favorite shopping cart (using the front bag as the basket), and i can just unfold it and pedal away when I'm done.

    Like you all say, it makes you smile and it is simply useful. I also like the knowing nod that other Brompton riders give when you pass each other…knowing we have things well sussed out…

      It's so handy that it can be taken on buses and trains! And we have heard a number of times cycling is usually easier than walking for some people. Happy Cycling!

    I love that I can take it everywhere, in restaurants, shops, on trains or buses, it can cycle everywhere I’d actually go these days, and it can just fold up and be kept conveniently in my bedroom or my office at work. It’s my shopping trolley for my weekly shop and I love its ability to be a great conversation starter too

      And more specifically the one I have is a high bar with a gear reduction so it’s not the fastest but it’s easy up hills and keeps me upright, I’m recovering from long Covid and I can’t really cycle hunched over anymore so it’s been a great tool for my mobility and recovery, allowing me to exercise and get fresh air in a way other bikes haven’t really been able to

    • @veloworks9266
      @veloworks9266  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep those are reasons I certainly agree with and not needing to lock it up and worry about it ! Also, great news that you have a Brompton you can ride even with some of your long covid symptoms (sorry to hear this). Thanks very much for sharing and watching :-)

    I had no plans or inclination to ride a bike to work until I learned of the Brompton. Then I went to the one bike shop in our city that sold them and I took a test ride. I like how I can fold it and ride public transportation when needed. I like how it folds and comes inside my home instead of being locked outside. If it wasn't "different" I would never have kept riding to work and other places. I guess I like being different too. I always get asked when I am going to get "a real bike" This is the last bike I will ever ride (I'm kind of old, 59)

    I don’t have a garage and live in a 1 bed house so being able to compactly store my bike inside is amazing. Plus I can take it in my car to places I’d like to ride. I took it in the boot and drove to the city of York and cycled 18 miles around the city and river.
    It’s also super fun and the internal hubs make commuting in stop start traffic a lot easier. Plus it accelerates really fast and it’s so fun to ride!
    Only shame is the roads in my town are awful so it can get quite bumpy and rattle the bike around. Being 26 in in North Yorkshire I’m yet to see another person on a Brompton under the age of 50 though 😂

      @veloworks9266  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing. Agree with your reasons and yep - I’m taking a train with mine in a few weeks to another city and will then use it to explore. And YES! It does accelerate so fast! One of the most under rated great benefits. Also, we lived in Glasgow for years and would rarely see another Brompton. So exciting when we did 🙌 thanks for your comment and watching 👍

    All the reasons you mention.........being able to fold and jump on a bus, train, etcwithout booking is fantastic. I plan to tour/camp on mine (C Line Explore in Bumblebee Yellow) this year and I'm also planning to traverse 'The Way of the Roses' from Morecambe to Bridlington. I live on the edge of the Pennines in West Yorkshire so it's very hilly round here so I've added an electric conversion kit which I add or remove depending where I'm heading.........on level 1 assist it gives me nearly 60 miles range currently, and takes 15 mins to add or remove the battery and switch the front wheel before setting off . A fantastic addition for those of us of a certain age. Rachael

    Freedom it provides. I can take it everywhere when I leave my home without any second thoughts. No need to worry about where to lock it, if it will be stolen or not and the peace of mind knowing that I can always jump in a public transport if I found myself in a bad situation.

    • @veloworks9266
      @veloworks9266  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These are very real reasons for us too. If I lock up one of my other bikes there is always a niggling worry in the back of my head but never with the Brompton as it comes everywhere with me. Thanks for sharing and very happy cycling!

    For many of the reasons you mentioned. I live near Reading and meet an ex work colleague regularly in Bristol so take my Brompton. I get off the train at Bath and then cycle to Bristol to have a couple of drinks with him and then sometimes cycle back to Bath. The calories I consume with him are then 'off set'.
    Also they seem to last so well with a bit of care. Mine is 6+ years old now and hasn't aged much.

    • @veloworks9266
      @veloworks9266  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, that trip sounds like a lot of fun and the Brompton is the perfect bike for it. If the Brompton is cared for they do last, agreed! Mine looks in almost new condition after 8 years 😱

  • @deniselee1900
    @deniselee1900 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    ...To add, it is built to last, small wheels are stronger, its long wheelbase is unique for a folding bike, feel 'fast', hub gears are heavy but better than gunked up cassette (and now with 12 speeds!)... Riding rough with with my carbon gravel bike, any odd sound gives me a pause.

    Hello, they are very practical, they take up little space and you can take them wherever you want without it bothering you, mine is an electric Brompton because where I live we have some unevenness and I need the help of the motor and it is perfect 😊👍🚴

    Been thinking of getting a Brompton for a while. With my current job I work from home and have done the last 4 years. Though starting a new job soon, 3 days in the office in Bristol so thinking of using it for commuting. Is it not worth considering the two speed and just going for the 6 speed? Not sure how much I will use the gears though 🤔

    • @veloworks9266
      @veloworks9266  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Holly, thanks for commenting. I would recommend going for the 6 speed just in case you start to do more with the bike you’ve got the option. Because if you did start doing more with the bike and you are limited by the gears it’s a much more expensive way round to do it. Hope that helps 👍

    Love my Brompton and my Birdy, both have their pros & cons, but then Brompton is a much better fold, more compact and easier to take on public transport……love my Thorn Nomad also, heavy, but bombproof, I just love cycling, I’m a plodder, not a racer 👍

    It is honestly a horrible and "heavy rolling excuse" for a "bike" on the small wheels (My now much former than, 2019 "SuperlightM6LXBrompton" is now worked and rebuilt, with even more expensive titanium and carbon parts, down to 8,5 kilo, and still with its mudguards, as a "Rainy Dane"!!).
    Its one and - only purpose is its fold into hardly anything during transport, when not then "pretending" to be a bike 🤔!!
    Finn. Denmark

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And I did wonder for what use I had the - low gears of 6, till I met an extremely steep serpentine hill during a vacation on the Danish Island of Bornholm, in the Baltic, and had to - walk to get up!!
      So I honestly wonder for what use the new "12 speed" is intended?? Finn

      @@veloworks9266 When Brompton came in the seventies, it gave rise to a number of Horrible Small Wheeled Bikes, and some couldn't even fold, and some only became ½ a bike - and not with the suspension! The Bromptons - one good side is its fold and being able to be brought to anywhere with ease! Its complicated fold into a 16" wheel- size is its reason to be made, but it isn't a "bike"! If so buy an American Montegue!
