I’m so sorry. I’m a step mom. I don’t hit my own child but my bonus son’s discipline is discussion (I explain why it’s wrong and we discuss different t ways to handle situations) and push ups. If it’s a major offense I have his dad discipline him. I haven’t spanked my own daughter since she was 3. I find discussing and letting my daughter discuss her punishment is better. (And yes I was spanked but I don’t want to discipline the same way my mother did).

My 15 year old daughter yelled at both my husband and I, "eff you, I hate you both." She went to her room and slammed the door. We both stood stunned (this was a first) for about 90 seconds and then decided we were too pissed to deal with her. We let some time go by. 30-45 minutes during which, he & I talked about it. Then we called her out to discuss her punishment for both the actual event she was initially in trouble for and an extra no cell phone or any electronic device for her behavior when we confronted her. We discussed, and by that time, she had cooled off too and apologized for her outburst. She was still grounded, but at least she had time to think about how she treated us and ultimately knew she was in the wrong.

I went through rough stuff as a kid and similar circumstances.. sadly, as I got older I realized maybe it's because the kids look like the other parent and the step parent despises them for it so they abuse/mistreat them. They also don't like that their man still has attachments with the other woman via the children. It's sick but I thought about it as I got older and that's what I think. I went through abuse growing up. My mom left my dad when I was about 9 years old. My life afterwards was HELL on earth! On another note: being 21 with 3 kids already is INSANE!

My father isn't biologically my parent, but he's been in my life ever since before my birth. He kept me as his own daughter and raised me. He told me when I was 18 that I wasn't his kid but nothing about that changed us but being stronger. My dad had a right to punish me cuz he was involved in my life by the time of my birth. That's literally the only acceptable reason.

Hell, by the time my kids were 8, grounding worked far better than time-outs or anything else. But I never had to lay hands on my kids to get them to behave. Usually a talking to would do more than even a time out. Explaining why what they did was wrong, what could happen, or the consequences of it, was enough. Example: when you say ugly things, it hurts (insert name) feelings, then they might cry or not like you anymore. Usually broke their hearts. Kids aren't capable of rationalizing the consequences. Help them figure it out.

Right. There are many different ways to discipline though & it should not be done through anger. Why a child will get in your face is a lack of respect, which starts at a young age & lack of compassionate talking to with sturdy discipline, NOT involving any act of physical harm (actual abuse.) Growing up 1 of 4, we RESPECTED our Mom. She did yell at times, but bc we loved her so much we didn't wanna see ger upset! Teaching kids compassion from the start is truly key from what we experienced. I'll say she very seldom smacked out hand or a pat on the butt, yes. But bc we already respected her out of love, it was just more so a precaution or don't touch, no running into the street, etc. I personally see little swats differently than abuse, but if a child doesn't understand for what, or doesn't understand compassion in learning, they will become a monster. Good ole firm "talking to" always worked well with us. Sometimes children need a bit of tough love, but sadly we have a ton of parents who don't even know how to love. It's a necessary equilibrium.

So sad and infuriating 🤬! When my dad and his wife were cohabitating (😅), he let his girlfriend (current wife) hit me, and he was hitting her kids. His wife's favorite thing to do was slap me in the face/mouth, but when I got old enough, I fought back.

I’m so sorry. I’m a step mom. I don’t hit my own child but my bonus son’s discipline is discussion (I explain why it’s wrong and we discuss different t ways to handle situations) and push ups. If it’s a major offense I have his dad discipline him. I haven’t spanked my own daughter since she was 3. I find discussing and letting my daughter discuss her punishment is better. (And yes I was spanked but I don’t want to discipline the same way my mother did).

Considering the husband's actions and words, I'm betting he was also ab*sive towards her but maybe less so than the other man. Some men look for women who were beaten down by other men and/or society. The husband went looking for near jailbait as his new girlfriend. A single mother who just can legally drink. He wasn't looking for someone responsible and a good person. He was looking for someone he could control and she directed that anger towards the children instead of lashing out at him - the adult. He enabled her ab*se of his children and didn't care until the mother knew.

My 15 year old daughter yelled at both my husband and I, "eff you, I hate you both." She went to her room and slammed the door. We both stood stunned (this was a first) for about 90 seconds and then decided we were too pissed to deal with her. We let some time go by. 30-45 minutes during which, he & I talked about it. Then we called her out to discuss her punishment for both the actual event she was initially in trouble for and an extra no cell phone or any electronic device for her behavior when we confronted her. We discussed, and by that time, she had cooled off too and apologized for her outburst. She was still grounded, but at least she had time to think about how she treated us and ultimately knew she was in the wrong.

I went through rough stuff as a kid and similar circumstances.. sadly, as I got older I realized maybe it's because the kids look like the other parent and the step parent despises them for it so they abuse/mistreat them. They also don't like that their man still has attachments with the other woman via the children. It's sick but I thought about it as I got older and that's what I think. I went through abuse growing up. My mom left my dad when I was about 9 years old. My life afterwards was HELL on earth!
On another note: being 21 with 3 kids already is INSANE!

Hell, by the time my kids were 8, grounding worked far better than time-outs or anything else. But I never had to lay hands on my kids to get them to behave. Usually a talking to would do more than even a time out. Explaining why what they did was wrong, what could happen, or the consequences of it, was enough. Example: when you say ugly things, it hurts (insert name) feelings, then they might cry or not like you anymore. Usually broke their hearts. Kids aren't capable of rationalizing the consequences. Help them figure it out.

If a child gets in your face screaming and out of control, discipline is definitely warranted. That's the problem with today's young society, they have no discipline or consequences to their actions. Right. There are many different ways to discipline though & it should not be done through anger. Why a child will get in your face is a lack of respect, which starts at a young age & lack of compassionate talking to with sturdy discipline, NOT involving any act of physical harm (actual abuse.)
Growing up 1 of 4, we RESPECTED our Mom. She did yell at times, but bc we loved her so much we didn't wanna see ger upset! Teaching kids compassion from the start is truly key from what we experienced. I'll say she very seldom smacked out hand or a pat on the butt, yes. But bc we already respected her out of love, it was just more so a precaution or don't touch, no running into the street, etc. I personally see little swats differently than abuse, but if a child doesn't understand for what, or doesn't understand compassion in learning, they will become a monster. Good ole firm "talking to" always worked well with us.
Sometimes children need a bit of tough love, but sadly we have a ton of parents who don't even know how to love. It's a necessary equilibrium.
The main reason why kids are disrespectful is because they’re raised by immature adults who don’t know how to respect or communicate with each other. Maybe if the adults that the youth are around would just grow up, stop acting childish, and be good examples for their children, they wouldn’t have these problems. It’s not lack of discipline. It’s lack of examples, and looking at this video, I can see why the teenaged daughter can be mouthy. I would be mouthy if I had to live and be raised by two immature adults.
