    Thank you! I love your detailed explanations! When I got my first sewing machine as a wedding gift from my mom, the amazingly kind woman at Sears showed me some tips and tricks. The blind hem was one of them. Sadly many things has passed since 1991: Sears, my first sewing machine and my mom! But, the memories remain and are sweet and fill me with joy. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I still have the sample from the kind instructor and use it as a reference when I hem my husband’s trousers. 😊

I really appreciated the explanation of the stitch anatomy - 3 stitches then the left hook. Have liked and subscribed after watching this. Look forward to more videos

    Hi! My 2 cents: the pants used in your demo are obviously a high end fabric that has wonderful inherent movement when worn. Turning the hem up without trimming off the excess fabric of the original hem MIGHT not put too much extra bulk at the bottom of the pant leg when using a machine to do the sewing. BUT - to not trim off any excess hem material before creating a new hemline on pants like cotton khakis or everyday knock-around pants has always turned into a bulky disaster for me in over 60 years of sewing. Do it properly by …marking the new hem…release the old hem stitching…trim off excess fabric…then blind hem stitch with the machine, or encase the hem edge with the overlock stitch and finish by hand. Creates a much less bulky hem area. Sorry - just trying to present another method!😊

    • @jacknjill3000
      @jacknjill3000 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks and what length of fabric do you leave for future let out or to weigh the pant legs? I just went to Uniqlo and had 2 dress pants hemmed and I think they said the are going to cut off the extra material and leave a bit of material. I felt uneasy about that and asked them to leave 3” of extra material to be safe.
      Seems like the staff was not that knowledgeable or trained and just wanted to do it the quickest and easiest.
      But they offer free alterations on their product and of older and without a receipt they charge only $5.

    • @larskars5835
      @larskars5835 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm at a loss as to understanding the problem you're presenting here in reference to this particular demonstration. Firstly, it doesn't seem like this hem is the result of an alteration and is probably the first hem for this garment, so your "instructions" are kind of moot. Secondly, in principal there is no "extra" bulk; the depth of the hem is more or less correct for a bespoke trouser, which should have a hem the total opposite of skimpy (also, the fabric here is kind of floaty and needs the weight of a substantial turn-back). Jeans and sometimes khakis generally have a small rolled and topstitched hem which is correct ONLY for these types of casual pants.

  • @lsvideo73
    @lsvideo73 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This looks very doable! Thank you! I’m definitely going to try it to save money. I am a 5’7” woman and never had to hem pants before but now it seems the average pants and jeans got longer grrrrrr!

    Nice demonstration and it will be useful to others.
    I've never been intimidated by the blind hem on my machine. I simply read the sewing machine book and followed the instructions. I've been using my home machine for blind hems ever since. One can buy a specialty blind hem foot to use and the results are good.

  • @lenneyalderfer4955
    @lenneyalderfer4955 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you, good tutorial! Many regular home sewing machines have a blind hem foot available, or can make use of a generic one, as long as it fits the shank of the machine. The foot holds the edge and the fold in place to get the tiny stitch perfectly aligned.

      Overlock the edge if you have an overlocker. If not, use the overlock stitch on your sewing machine, if you don't have an overlock stitch on your sewing machine, use a zig zag stitch.

    The pants seemed to have a taper which made it impossible to sew the whole way around, so I just sewed 4 separate sections around the legs to hold them evenly. Seems to have worked well.
