  • The first 10:40 you've heard with reverb... the rest are extra.
    I've been asked for a raw version without the reverb. So here it is. There's not much difference tbh - but some might sound a bit punchier. I didn't think the reverb was overpowering - just a hint, but some folks like it completely naked! Next time I'll do both :)

    Striking the perfect balance between the reverb/FX vs dry is always an issue resulting in endless tweaking. While dry sound has more rawness and punch it is not how it is used especially with EDM sounds to sit well within a track context. Synths are just meant to be used with some FX.

    • @SomeOne-pd6vm
      @SomeOne-pd6vm ปีที่แล้ว +4

      a synth without reverb often sounds kinda bad in a full mix because it's pretty much the only instrument in existence that won't have natural reverb to it, and that's something we're not used to hearing. every other instrument exists in a real world space which will naturally echo and reverberate, so it only makes sense to at least add a bit of reverb to a synthesizer :)

      @@SomeOne-pd6vm Good point! I could listen to nice drone pad with long lush reverb for a long time for example, I doubt I could do the same only dry. It's just tiering on the ears

      @@christianthompson1473 Pro-800 benefits greatly with a multi-FX as this is a great pad machine but it can be used with its raw osc sound alone when needed. Even the
      infamous synth guru Jexus (Olo Garb) pointed that out in his latest reviews and I agree regarding FX on this synth.

    Personally I never understood the desire to add effects to a pure synth (as in not workstation/groovebox) or drench everything in reverb. Pro 800 has an amazing tone and careless application of effects tends to ruin it.

      Yes. They’re not that far apart. The biggest difference for me is the envelopes. I might do a side by side with the prophet 5 at some point.

      @@starskysoundsI was thinking of buying a P800, as it has offers some really nice tones for the price. However, I have a REV2 already, and I'm not entirely sure if it's worth getting it (maybe I'll have to try replicating a few of your great patches to find out :))).

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@legitt6093I love the Rev2 it’s a great synth. I’d say you wouldn’t be gaining much tbh. This may have a more raw tone. But there’s not that much in it.

    • @TooSlowTube
      @TooSlowTube ปีที่แล้ว

      @@legitt6093 The one big thing for me with the Pro-800 is that I can detune the two oscillators very subtly, which I can't on the Rev2, because it only does it in very course steps, and since the Rev2 oscs have rock solid tuning stability, there's really just an LFO type effect when I do that. For me, there's no useful setting for detune on the Rev2 - a setting of 1 is too much. I really do think that spoils it, as an analog synth. The Pro-800 tuning is more unstable and alive.
      The big advantage of the Rev2, for me, is the 2 pole filter option, which the Pro-800 lacks.
      I like the fact that Starsky is doing demos without external effects, because a good reverb or chorus can mask a fairly dull sounding synth, so it can be misleading to someone who's looking to buy one. Interestingly, to me, his demos of the Pro-800 with reverb add some of the sparkle that the 4 pole filter lacks. I bought the Pro-800 knowing that it's 4 pole only, but I'm not really a fan of 4 pole only synths. I may look into following it up with the Mopho or Tetra... or MI Shruthi, to add more filter options.

    3:04 это и есть Prophet-5 без дураков. И вообще на этой скромной машинке полезных, благородных, честных тембров больше, чем на иных dx-7 и d-50, я это утверждаю, и не спорьте. Главное не замылить их на пульте параллельным включением CS-80 и RJ 8. Behriinger presets are not at the level of this instrument abilities. I should say the same for my Deepmind 12. I rewritten All. A wider keyboard with sensitivity and polyphonic after touch is also needed to explore sounds in a musical mind. What if the UB Xa will be tested on a sequencer or a tiny keyboard... This don't make sense. Those things are made for Artists, not for turning pots and rave parties. Certainly Behringer will modify it's optics about that synthesis remakes are not for basic noise makers, but for Musicians, with not lot money, wich is conjuncture actually. Thanks to them, we know they try to do the best.

      It’s an odd one tbh. All the professional patch bank creators cover their stuff in reverb in the demos. It makes the sound big and amazing, useful for tracks.. will help with your productions, you’ll sound like a pro etc. that’s why all the ads you’ll see on Facebook sound like finished tracks.
      This is because they sell more as people can hear what the patch will sound like in a mix and don’t have to try to imagine how they would use it or produce a track from it .. or simply hope they can use it sounding better than the dry version. They can instantly hear what they can do with it.
      They do this to sell more… it makes sense to them and to most buyers. If I then post my stuff dry they basically sound less impressive to most people. Scroll on… Even playing the dry versions as well is a risk … which is why the pros don’t do it.
      It’s hard not to shoot yourself in the foot while trying to cover all the bases.

      @@starskysounds there is nothing wrong with the P800, but it lacks fx and that's a downside for me.
      I like my synths with stereo out so I can hear where it sits in the mix without having to do a ton of post work.
      But this is because I do live sets and need to know what I am printing before I do. I don't really compose so this means I have to rely on an external pedal, and this can take the wind out of my sails when it comes to using my H9s or CDR70s.

    It's strange how, in Canada's largest city, none of these new Behringer synths are actually available. It makes one wonder if these are just limited runs of products, going mostly to social influencers to create demand for a supply that's intentionally shorted. But the best synth is one that actually exists in people's hands...so don't believe the hype.
