  • Wow, wow, wow...finally, Big Red is realeased from custums and finds its way to Karl and into his belly.
    I am so glad that Maria came to give me a hand, I would not have been able to tackle this massive job without her!!!
    Still quite a way to go until Big Red will purr happily, but one major step closer to being on the move again!
    Enjoy & Ahoy,
    Nike & Karl

    So proud of you! As a bloke who’s fought with cranky old boat engines lots in the past I was delighted to see the trepidation and then the big smile on your face when that new engine started for the first time! I know the feeling from experience. It’s a great one, and it was a real pleasure to see you succeed after all those patient hours of careful, thoughtful work! You are a star!!
    (......& 95% of men couldn’t do that which makes you twice as clever!)

    Next time you decide to take apart your electric panel to clean it, when you go to re-assemble it, put a dab of silicon dielectric grease on each terminal before you plug it in. It will fend off corrosion for a long, LONG time !

    You girls kick ass, I am a diesel mechanic for the railroad and take care of the equipment that maintains the track. I have a lot of Kubota engines powering things here and you have chosen very wisely they are absolutely bulletproof . If you keep oil & coolant in them they just keep on running, plus they are very good on fuel. I have so much respect for the both of you and watch your videos with my daughter , you and Maria are great role models for her . I am going to get set up with Patreon and start supporting your videos , I really look forward to Fridays now for your new videos. Thanks TJ

      Cory Stokes hehe, we were not so calm when we tried to move the engine on board...but that's also why that footage is missing 🤣. Too much going on to film...but usually, most of the time we are fairly calm, that's true.

    Talk about a cliff hanger of an ending. ( :
    You have done a fabulous job of referbishing and powering Karl. The amount of camera angles it took to make this video and edit are enormous. Your fans appreciate your efforts. Thanx to Maria for being there for you. Together You two are a machine!!.

      @mazdarx7887 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why do you think it's a cliffhanger? The engine was in and running over three months ago. She don't follow any timeline for uploads, it may have been in much longer.

    • @redroofretriever
      @redroofretriever 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mazda rx7 we do follow a timeline, all the episodes are chronological...the engine start up was a live feed...it did not have anything to do with the timeline of the episodes. And you can always see when the material was filmed at the beginning of each video.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mazda rx7 the engine start was a live feed...so please tell me how that could have been filmed long time ago...and please do enlight me why we should be doing that...we have nothing to hide and always state exactly when and where stuff has been filmed...the only thing people have to do is read the headline of the video and see if it's an episode or a live feed...then everything is pretty clear...

    Great Job! If you use just a light coating of dielectric grease of something similar on your electrical connections and their metal ends you will have no more issues. After corrosion starts it is a never ending battle. Even after cleaning ends it will still be hidden inside wire ends and slowly creep up causing issues down the road. Seal them with a light coating and no worries.

  • @lyfandeth
    @lyfandeth 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nike, here is a secret I learned to keep all of your electrical connections from corroding. After all the cleaning you did. Always put just a dab of silicone grease in the connection, and you will never need to clean them again. It does not melt or migrate, does not break down, is inexpensive. A secret of professional marine electricians!
    Thst is some job you did on the engine, kudos to you.

    This reminds me of when I switched engines in Atlantic City, Virginia. Having sailed down from Canada, my discovery that getting parts for my (30 years old) 1 cyl Yanmar involved search in a marine salvage yard. With a plan to be heading across the Atlantic, a likely future of getting parts that way was unappealing. So, I too bought a new engine. However, I switched to a smoother running two-cylinder Yanmar. Similar to your project, I had to modify the mounts. But, I was very fortunate that a nearby machine shop supplied material, then allowed me to use their drill press to produce the two 5/8" mounting plates needed to accommodate a difference in mounting height. Other than using the marina's crane to lower the new Yanmar within a couple of feet of its final resting place, I did the remaining work of installation. I still smile that my "sea trial" prior to setting out, was to motor over to the marina's fuel dock. Just one of many great memories from about 15 years of cruising life. Don't give up Nike!

    A little di-electric jell can work wonders at keeping corrosion off electrical connectors. Re-powering is a tuff job to do at anchor. The few times I had to do engine work such as re-welding motor mounts, replacing engine rear seal, etc, I was always concerned about weather causing the anchor to drag and that was only for a couple days engine work. Fair winds to you and congrats on your new engine.

    Nike, don't know how hard for you to get it, but Boeing aircraft company makes a product called- Boeshield T-9 it's a rust & corrosion protection that they use on all there planes. It's really great you can get spray or grease. I find it strange how many people have boats with really corroded thru hulls and such when it just takes seconds to spray something. Wiring is one thing I hate doing so like to keep it like new! Want to keep that engine looking like new for Karl.

    Wow...incredibly intimidating. Installing the new engine and gauges while floating in somewhat choppy waters. Kudos!

      Hey Bill, it was for sure a bit of a scary project, but in the end it all went well and I was happy about the bucks that I saved ;)

    Looks realy good you have done a lot of homework, I am a mechanical engineer and have put a few engines in boats. Take time to get the prop shaft and engine lined up, I know the coupling will take up a small bit. The more accurate the less vibration. Looking forward to your next video
