    I do like the idea of Star Trek being under one roof, and on one timeline other than Disco. Getting Kurtzman outta the picture should be the priority. Matalas must be the way forward.

      I like idea of Trek/Paramount merging with WB/Max (and even Netflix) because it will be direct counterpart to Disney.....
      Trek v Wars
      DC v Marvel
      Looney Tunes v Disney/Pix.
      Netflix documentaries v Nation Geographic
      MI v Hulu

    The biggest problem many Trekkies had was the disrespect of Canon from Kurtzman Trek.

      Also, making it woke propaganda with no relation to Star Trek. That's not toxic, that's just rational to oppose.

      @RogerWilco1 I don't really get into that. I just look at it as bad story telling. A subset of fans are getting so caught up in wokeness to the point it is tiresome.

      @robertmartinjr.4537 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @RogerWilco1 I will say this there are things that people don't like whatever it is. Then I suggest a certain type of alienating yourself from narratives that bother you might be in order. There are a lot things that are being put out in cinematic presentations that I might not agree with but not to the point where I have always connect it to sociopolitical leanings.

    I'm 57 years old and I've loved Star Trek since before I can ever remember anything. I learned my morals from Kirk and Spock and McCoy. Anyone who calls me Toxic had better be man enough to say it to my face. I'm NOT toxic, I never have been, nor will I ever be. I'm sick to death of people saying that having a contrary opinion to theirs is toxic. It's like, if someone elbows you in the face, and you punch them back and saying it's your fault. Paramount created the division, not me, and clearly, I love Star Trek more than they do. Alex Kurtzman is just an incredibly bad choice, he doesn't understand the product, and he wants to just do his thing, whether it's respectful or not. know right from wrong. And New Trek is WRONG, period. It's cynical, violent, depressing, a self-aware joke at times, there's a complete lack of respect for authority (which I love in real life, but not on a military vessel), there's swearing (which simply doesn't exist in the Star Trek universe apart from cultural memory), which I don't give a fuck about in real life, but this is Star Trek, it's made like a contemporary show with current day euphemisms and sayings, the humour is always cynical and mean spirited, and it's not intelligent for want of a better word. The Original Series had great discourse between Kirk (the man pragmatist), Spock (the logical), and Bones (the Empath), the point being that all three are needed for harmonious society. TNG was full of psychobabble (popular in the 80s in Cali), technobabble (for the nerds), and diplomacy (because of the Cold War). Modern Trek is just a generic, contemporary, action sci-fi show. Utterly forgettable.

    I hope this is a glimmer of hope for Trek, but I doubt it. Many of the same, cough cough, issues that plague Trek under Paramount exist just as much, if not more so in WB.

    Like Chicago fire, pd, and med. make a StarTrek with three shows unique but can and do overlap. Make StarTrek Academy, Shipyards, and Journeys. Three shows that focus on their area like classroom and the dorms and life ad a cadet for Academy. For Shipyards its about mechanics and building and ship design. With Journey its about exploring like TNG and Voyager. Interaction between all three on season cliff hangers would be amazing. Anyway just my thoughts.

    There are several franchises that are spread across several IP owners making work on future projects hard or impossible. Star gate has the problem: 2 IP owners that are at loggerheads. Dr Who also had this problem with the ownership of several early Dr Who contact races, past companions, etc. Star wars is a mess. Several like Babylon 5, Far Scape, old old stuff like Battle beyond the Stars also has project possibilities but you need to get the legal lead out.
    It makes creating a game hard and TV or movie even harder. Its been identified as an industry flaw by several major investment houses. They may be putting pressure on the industry as a whole to get their act together on ownership. A bridging entity that licenses and thus owns all the IP then allows new products to be built is possible. Even fan based material can be folded in.
    Its a tool nothing more but as the recent industry miss steps get dealt with a lot of people will be considering that tool.
    I'm biased, I have my own Far Trek mini project. Federation crews taken POW by the Sheliak building a base far from the Federation with a few new friends and phoning home. The Federation does not know they're alive. Unlike voyager they don't want to go home the far Alpha cluster is home.

    First time here but super cool video and very interesting. Ultimately the biggest issue with most current Star Trek whether you like it or not is the cost being able to bring it in house at Warner to take in back to the legacy era of shooting reusing sets would have been great at saving costs. Now even though Skydance is in the lead it's possible that what Warner wanted to do may still occur because Skydance if my memory survives is owned by Tom Cruise and the rumor is while Akex Kurtzman is listed as the film's director Tom Cruise was the one who ghost directed the film so there might be some bad blood there and even if Warner doesn't get Paramount they may still try for individual IPs or may just end up spending more then they want. Because Warner Discovery doesn't just want Paramount and its library but they want CBS as well and those two might be enough to out bid Skydance because end of the day Zaslav may be able to do that.

    I think that the Warner Bros plan could work. Apparently one sticking point was dealing with Secret Hideout & Abrams. Yet for the right amount i am sure that they would opt out. I have no idea where this is going to end up. I do know that this isn't the end of Star Trek. It is still a very viable property with a great fan base. The question remains as where Star Trek ends up in all of this. Funny how way back in 1964 when Gene Roddenbery was developing what would be known as Star Trek that 60 years later the idea of Star Trek Studios would be a possibility! As for Kurtzman, I guess haters have to hate. I have some issues with some of what he has done but I find that overall, there have more hits than misses. It's a mixed bag not everything has been awful or "ruined" Star Trek.

    • @aldunlop4622
      @aldunlop4622 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The thing about Star Trek is that it was painted into a bit of a hole by Rick Berman. Alpha and Beta Quadrants were kind of normal space, DS9 went to the Gamma Quadrant, and Voyager went to the Delta Quadrant. So, the entire galaxy had been used (although of course the galaxy is mind-numbingly HUGE so there's plenty of dark spaces to fill). After Voyager finished, they were all exhausted and had no real new stories, but the studio made them make Enterprise, which I actually liked, but it didn't get the love it deserved.
      Just for my own amusement I wrote a synopsis called Star Trek: Andromeda about the discovery of a temporary one-way wormhole leading to the Andromeda Galaxy and Star Fleet sending a fleet of ships including several Cruisers and Colony ships on a one-way, never to return voyage to the Andromeda Galaxy, where new adventures could begin.

    I honestly like the content you produce. You seem to be a lot more positive about talking about Star Trek & how you'd like to see whatever it is that's currently being produced or in the works to continue with as little disruption as possible.
    I'm sure you're probably going to cover this in one of the later videos, but another youtuber that you may know of has said that a source said that Warner Brothers has a plan for Star Trek Studios & wants to buy JUST Star Trek, but would apparently want nothing to do with the those elements that Secret Hideout controls. In fact, according to the source, they say Kurtzman wants out of making Star Trek because knows what he is making isn't being the draw that he hoped it would be.
    This source goes on to say that they would end up resetting Star Trek back to the orginal timeline that was produced before Enterprise was cancelled in 2005, thereby putting an end to every production of Kurtzman Trek out there.
    I do have to admit, it is wildly different plan from what you have probably heard, but I trust this other youtuber about as much as they care about hiding behind a mask.
    I'm looking forward to seeing the next video that you have to put out!

      Although that other youtuber who has quite a large subscriber base has been correct with many past rumours in relation to Disney, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Star Trek Discovery.
      You have a misunderstanding regarding that video in question. According to rumours that WB will have all Star Trek produced under two licences (1966 to 2005 and 2009 to present) incorporated in Star Trek Studios. WB will then disregard Star Trek after 2009 and only concentrate on making new Star Trek set in before 2005. Sky Dance will buy Paramount and only deal with movies which doesn’t include Star Trek.

      Star Trek won't be saved until people appreciate what made star trek go. It was always made with a conservative liberal conflict behind the scenes. That tension is what made things good. And I don't just mean politically I mean creatively. Writers are always tempted to avoid the pressures of writing for a major franchise by lowering the bar and engaging in self indulgent writing. I.e. let's have a musical episode. You need a conservative voice that tells them they're fired. You need a gatekeeper that asks a very basic question. Is it better than what has been done before? If you're not trying to outdo 90s trek, you shouldn't be writing for trek. Having a musical episode is a pretty obvious sign you do not belong as part of the production crew. A simple task you'd ask a potential writer "get the 100 best trek episodes, explain why they suck and how you would fix them". If you can't improve on the best you don't belong in a room full of people who should be the best.

    Star Trek 9021 NO!
    So a movie company finally realizes what has been known for decades, that derivative or split copyrights are a bad idea. They can't make them on their own. Stop funding new projects with them which only serves to keep them liquid. Bad Robot and Secret Hideout both need to go to chapter 7 liquidation and no longer be anyone's problem. Can someone arrange that? Please?

    So long as they understand and keep the core of what Star Trek was meant to be (and not someone's interpretation either), and they respect canon and the fans, there is hope.
    It would be a shame to stick with the Prime timeline as it includes all the garbage from 2009 on. They'd be better of and make fans happier by returning to the original timeline. This would also dump all the Kurtzman stuff. Start a while after the homecoming of Voyager, and go from there.
    And I almost forgot: Make Axanar as it was intended. It's too bad some of the actors are gone now, but it would still be worth it.

    Star Trek needs to be but in the cooler for 10+ years and hopefully the industry straightens out. There is not any studio out there that is consistently faithful to the source material. If Warner Bros was this aware of the fanbase’s opinions and wanting to fix some of Kurtzman’s narrative missteps, then I mourn the lack of a merger.. canceling Academy and focusing on the prime Legacy timeline would’ve been exactly what most of us want. Academy is so far removed from the rest of Trek, tbh it can only harm future projects.

    There is no such thing as toxic fandom, only fandom..
    That term was coined by the very hacks and lack of "creatives" that make a lot of the lessor quality content they expect us to consume today.
    They are the same people who have caused the division in fans, back when fans pushed back against the lessor quality content.
    I believe Star Trek needs to totally ditch Secret Hideout and Kurtzman and get a team like the one Terry Metalis brought to Picard season 3.
    They need creatives who can actually do Science fiction, not Starfleet 90210 CW rubbish.

      100% agree. It's just a defence mechanism used by fragile modern people who can't handle honest criticism. People don't "hate on" things, they stop watching, or never even start. I have friends who hate Star Trek that have never seen a frame of it. They just don't like sci-fi. I've loved Star Trek foreverrrrr, and I'm the first people to criticise shit episodes, but not because I'm a "hater", but because they are shit, and I know they can do better. Even Rick Berman etc are the first to say that some episodes suck.

    I think a key point that the host of this video is missing is that Paramount severing all ties with Secret Hideout and not using anything from the "25% Different" shows would be a GOOD THING.
    Reset back to the Canon Timeline and jettison all of the Prime Timeline and Kelvin Timeline garbage.
    Last item, as a fan since the Seventies, I am a Trekker. "Trekkie" is the derogatory label the media slapped on the fans of the Star Trek.

    "toxic fanbases" is a false narrative. after all its we the fans who PAY THEIR SALARY. if they want to blame us for their lack of success that's a problem. showing blatant disrespect to your customer base is a good way to go out of business. if it wasn't for the "toxic fanbase" airing all the grievances they had with the newer shows, we wouldn't have gotten the epicly awesome season 3 of picard. and i have never had a problem with the animated offerings. snw is acceptable though i find it mediocre. discovery is the problem show, it lacks any kind of character development, the plot lines feel contrived, it relies too much on mystery boxes full of disappointment. its full of retcons and on top of that we got a crew i wouldn't even trust to run a mcdonalds. its a fine example of how not to run a star trek series.
    i also feel like its cheapening the brand to be constantly spitballing shows to see what sticks. id rather they invest in the shows they have, get better writers and make an effort to smooth things over with the fans.

    I hope that if paramount and Whom ever they decide to do merger with seriously consider to allow Quentin Tarantino to produce his own Star Trek movie as long as he doesn’t use any franchise established characters. He could create a new crew on a different starship dealing with the Orion syndicate throw in some Klingons and Romulans and maybe even some dangerous green women. Then in future Star Trek productions characters can reference the details of the plot of Tarantino’s film and hopefully maybe Robert Rodriguez will decide to make his own film maybe even related to Tarentino’s film.

    I like idea of Trek/Paramount merging with WB/Max (and even Netflix) because it will be direct counterpart to Disney.....
    Trek v Wars
    DC v Marvel
    Looney Tunes v Disney/Pix.
    Netflix documentaries v Nation Geographic
    MI v Hulu
    I like some Kurtzman stuff like 1st 2 STD seasons & SNE. EXCEPT for LGBTQ in your face. No problem with Spock's sister. Actually hoping Discovery ship comes back to contemporary prime time, stayin6 secret part of s31. Makes sense. I want to see the real universe version of Gabriel Lorca since STD only showed mirror universe version. He could be mainstream OR also s31.
    ULTIMATELY Id love Musk or Apple to steal Lucasfilm from Disney & ANYONE get Trek. And use Shatner while he's still alive. Sulu should've gotten his Excelsior movie or series.

    Sell Star Trek to Seth MacFarlane, he's the only person who knows what the hell he's doing. He could make ONE GOOD Star Trek series, kind of a continuation of TNG, or at least in that era. We don't need Strange New Worlds, Lower Drecks, or any of the other crap Secret Hideout has been vomiting out (or will vomit out) the last several years. Take Star Trek AWAY from Alex Klutzman and Secret Hideout.

    As a lifelong ST fan, nothing could induce me to watch any more nuTrek -- not Legacy, not SNW, not Starfleet 90210, not Section 31, nothing with Alex Kurtzman's name on it.
    I'll only watch a new ST made by people who love Roddenberry's ST and want to make the best fulfilment of his vision.

    I have been a Trekkie since the 60's, but alot of this new Trek, I just don't care much for it. I like Picard, mostly the 3rd season, Strange New Worlds is just ok, I hated that awful musical episode they did. I don't like the animated series at all. I have high hopes for ST Legecy, and I will wait and see what they do with Academy if it happens, but I can't see it being very interesting. Overall I have been relatively happy with ST Discovery, looking forward to the final season. Just my opinion.

    Star Trek has become a heap of “woke” influenced trash. Piss poor writing, a lot of bad acting, amateur directing and few endearing characters.
    Whatever WB does to StarTrek one thing is certain. It can’t get any worse. I can’t get excited about any future feature films because the virus that has infected CBS/Paramount will still be front and center. Thank the stars fans can still watch reruns of TOS, DS-9, Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise and even StarTrek continues.

    It's not very gracious or thankful to call the faithful and committed fan base, to the preservation of canon and lore, the toxic ones. If anybody should be called toxic is the ones who created and supported the abominations and bastardizations of Kurtzman Track. For as long as the disrespect and disregard continues toward the fanbase loyal to what Star Trek and the vision of Gene Roddenberry truly was, the continuation of a non to barely profitable Star Track crap universe it will be.

    • @scitrek
      @scitrek  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sadly there is a toxicity to the fanbase in my opinion. The two extremes of opinion. Those that think all new trek is woke and awful and those that think all trek is great even the trek that’s awful.. these two polar views are toxic in different ways but both illicit and anger and venom that is toxic in the fanbase.

    • @jafleming0409
      @jafleming0409 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @scitrek I agree that both extremes can be problematic, but the new trek has shown to be not profitable and has shown to be what started the divide and anger in the first place. The faster it dies and trek returns to its roots the better.

      The saying is: “The customer is always right”; not, “the customer will just accept what we give him/her”.
      The failure of Kurtzman’s Picard S1 & 2 but the fan’s revelry for Matalas’ S3 should tell them all they need to know about what kind of Trek fans wanted.
