Joe cultivates his indie persona because he thinks it makes him unique. His stand-up is horrendous probably because he can't take a joke himself. Most of the bits are designed to shock. Joe doesn't understand the difference between an uncomfortable chuckle and a real laugh. He gets offended so easily, it's absolutely pathetic.

Bill mentioning George Carlin in the present tense got me sad, but also nostalgic and warmly appreciative. Remembering that this is 2007 and a year or so before Mr. Carlin left us, I do miss a reality where we exist together, but so glad I was able to see him perform on his last tour before the Vegas shows, where he was working out his newer material some with glances at notes but all as sharp and brilliant as ever with possibly a touch more intimacy and nuance, also some of his darkest & most hilariously twisted lines. Really wish I could find a bootleg video or audio of that set as it was never recorded for a special and as far as I know not available posthumously, at least for the public.

Bill is the curmudgeon to be honest, but he would be a lot of fun to hang around with if you can hold your own in the chop-busting department. Joe is way too sensitive for his own good but you could drop your guard with him and just talk honestly.
