You can’t tell the age of the barn by the stalls or manure inside. I built my stalls in a 100 year old barn. Anything internal can be built later. If it is a timberframe barn with all interlocking beams, then that part was likely built when the barn frame was built.
I learned a lot from your video. Very interesting.

I am familiar with your beautiful part of the country. After 35 years causing pheasant and quail in Furnas county, NE I have seen and admired many of the old barns and sadly seen many are no longer around. Great video please keep them coming.

Old guy down the road had a working trolly in his barn that would lift 8 bales at a time into the loft. I'm pretty sure you could get the conversion kit from loose hay to lift bales because it worked the same way you described this set up.

I love old barns. Done some watercolors of a few. My Dad grew up in Axtell Nebraska.

Thanks for watching. Axtell is about 60 miles east of us. We love those old barns also and yes they are disappearing. In fact the one in this video was lost to fire about a year ago.

The barn has a 1920’s look to it, the dimensional lumber and the Dutch lap siding. I’d say it’s ready for the wrecking ball. FYI a good book on barns here back East was written by Eric Sloan entitled “American Barns and Covered Bridges”

Deed records for the house, and property may also give details of age. Great video.

I have two old barns on my property that I'm trying to save and trying to figure out the age. So coming across your video was very interesting. One barn has hand hewn timbers where the other one the timbers came from a sawmill. So thanks again for the history lesson.

The facade shape of this barn is exactly the same as the new US Jetfighter F-36 Kingsnake.

Good info! Balers did change barn use and may have contributed to their disappearance. Thanks!
