Awesome video. It's very tricky trying to find a shallow speaker in a 6x9 to fit the roof area in this body style. Are you still using this same speaker in the roof or did you change it out?
@JGarcia2016 I have not tried the DS18 speakers. I know that they are somewhat popular. For this application, I needed something shallow. I am not sure if there is a shallow DS18 6x9 or not. My favorite speakers so far are the Alpine Type R components that I put in the front doors. That video is here on the channel.
Very good explanation 😅 When l took my roof speakers out, they fell apart as yours did. Mine were original GM made in Japan. 30 yrs old. Now l have some new Kickers. My system is all balanced and EQed. Sounds Sweet ☺️
This also works for the 4 door Tahoe. I installed Skar 6.5 Pro audio neodymium speakers being im using a 12 inch Skar audio SVR Sub. It sounds sick. Each 6.5 speaker puts out 175watts RMS each. These are midrange-midbass speakers. 150 HZ high pass filter is best and most radios has a built-in crossover.
I’m going to replace 4x10’s in my 2 door Tahoe with 6x9’s Thanks for the video because I was going to go back with 4x10’. This should be much better. Great Video.
I glued a piece of carpet mat to the roof above the speaker. This helped to deaden the reflection and smoothed out the bass a bit. Remer you are working with metal and at certain low frequencies it can vibrate. So a good balance between front and back is called for. Since the replacement speakers are not designed the same as the oem with forward firing tweeters you will not hear the highs as well. But with a good pair of 4x6s up front you can adjust the EQ to satisfy 😌.
You could do strong 6.5 speakers like PRV, Skar audio, Black diamond and DS18 these speakers are all good. They crank out 175 watts RMS each some are a little more.
Thanks! I love it. Already used it on a couple projects and it does a great job. Link to it is in the video description as well as the D handle style one.
for my remote signal wire can I tap the factory roof speaker amplifier under the dash in my obs 99 suburban or should I just tap a keyed fuse? I would like to avoid mangling the ready-harness I bought from Crutchfield for a remote lead
There is a links in the video description to the things that items used in the video!

Yes I am still using the same srear speakers as shown in this video.
Have you try some ds18 midrange speakers I recommend them they sound clean and loud no distortion from the speaker..

They are shallow enough to fit almost anywhere I got a 97 chevy astro,2003 chevy tahoe,2005chevy impala s.s they fit on factory location no cutting..
I definitely got to do this on my two door Tahoe, and Thank you for the how to. 😎👍🏼
It makes a big difference! You’re welcome!

Yes, it absolutely works on those models. That sounds like a good setup.
Just what I needed! You're the man!
Thanks. I appreciate the comment. I hope that you enjoy the other videos here on the channel as well.
Thanks for the video bro I was trying to figure out what to do and I’m just gonna do what you did
You’re welcome!
Great video and all the info about as well
Thank you
Awesome idea, going to install 6x9s in my 99 suburban, but the baffles should of gone between the speaker and brackets, still a good idea!!
It is definitely a good upgrade
Definitely doing ,thanks for sharing.Maryland showing ❤
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching.
Same situation with my Obs Yukon 2dr
This is a great upgrade

All of the links to the speakers and boom mats are in the “video description”. Thanks for watching!

The 2 door Tahoe doesn’t have 4x6’s up front 🤔
Just need some bass now 😈. Nice retro fit, bet it sounds much cleaner.
Yes, it sounds much cleaner now.
Nice job - will use as my tutorial for my suburban- thanks 🤙🇺🇸
You’re welcome! I hope that you enjoy the other videos on the channel as well!
I’ve never seen those BoomMat baffles. That’s cool
Yeah they work good.
You didn't have to bend the bracket to accommodate the fitment? Well done. I am going to do the same.
I did bend it closer to the tabs a little bit. Thanks
Awesome video, great explanation! Gotta do this upgrade on mine!
Thanks! Yes it is definitely worth doing.
Great video!. I might try that on my 1999 Escalade!
Thanks, it is a big upgrade for sure.
Nice I wonder if 8" speakers could fit into the back.
There is not enough metal on the factory bracket to do an 8” round speaker.
You could do strong 6.5 speakers like PRV, Skar audio, Black diamond and DS18 these speakers are all good. They crank out 175 watts RMS each some are a little more.
Looks good and sounds good… love your tahoe
Thanks a lot!
What if you just use the boom mat cup tight between the roof and headliner. Without any bracketry at all?
That boom mat isn’t enough to hold the speaker. It needs the bracket.
Thanks for doing this!
You’re welcome
Nice video thanks
You’re welcome. Thanks for the comment. I hope that you enjoy the other videos on the channel as well.
my rear speakers in my Tahoe are the same Kenwoods and in the same condition lol
That’s funny! Well you will notice a big upgrade with these.
Great video! Hey how do you like that Milwaukee M18 Jigsaw? I've been thinking about getting one.
Thanks! I love it. Already used it on a couple projects and it does a great job. Link to it is in the video description as well as the D handle style one.
Great job
Thanks!
Any idea if this can be done to an 88-94 Blazer?
I am honestly not sure. If the rear speakers are setup the same then it should work I would think.
Nice work
Thanks

I have always used the remote wire at the harness. I haven’t tried it a different way.
@@whiplashtv2022 thanks for clarifying that
👍🏻
nice job brother
Thanks!
Loved your video
Thanks
On the boom Matt which one did you use the slim fit or the regular, I’m asking because it gives you 2 different options on Amazon
I got the one in this link. The oval slim 👇🏻
