  • In this review, Rapospective takes an in-depth look at LL Cool J's debut album 1985’s RADIO, which revolutionized the world of hip hop. Combining LL's groundbreaking B-Boy-fused lyrical delivery and the production expertise of Rick Rubin, RADIO helped define the sound of ‘80s rap and introduced the world to Def Jam Recordings -- and, of course, its first signee. Rapospective breaks down the album's standout tracks (which include "I Can't Live Without My Radio" and "Rock the Bells"), as well as discusses the album's impact on the rap game and how it set LL Cool J on the path to stardom.

Awesome video. Do you plan on covering other 80s acts like Eric B and Rakim or Boogie Down Productions? I’m also excited for the next LL video, I couldn’t really get into Radio, but after a couple of listens to Bigger and Deffer, I’d put it at number 3 for my 1987 Hip Hop albums rankings.

Funny you mention those two. As far as '80s acts, either one of them would be next, but I want to mix them up with those from the '90s and/or 2000s. (Regarding the latter, I'm strongly leaning towards Ludacris...). And I can understand where you're coming from with RADIO, which is why I noted that some people might not be able to get into it due to a combination of age and minimalism.
