Hi everyone! Lots of questions about the new MAC brushes being synthetic so I thought I would pin it in a comment... Synthetic fibers in the past have been known for being better for liquid cream products, but not as good for powder products. However, MANY big brands have moved away from natural fibers to be 100% Synthetic, not just MAC. There are a few reasons for this, but the short reason is that many of the ethical manufacturers with factories in China are moving to be 100% Synthetic. The factory that produces MAC brushes produces many other BIG brands you see in Sephora and in Nordstrom, who are also now 100% Synthetic. Synthetic fibers have come a long way and they have improved a ton, to mimic natural hair. We will see that finding a QUALITY natural animal hair brush line is going to be harder over the coming years, at an affordable price point.
I just want to say that out of all the beauty TH-camrs, you are by far the most professional and lovely to watch. You explain to the point and there is absolutely no drama!!! I love it. This video was so informative with great detail. Thank you! I look forward to watching you every day!
Lisa, you are a One-Woman Show with videos that spotlight your expertise as a makeup artist! Your enthusiasm shows, and we feed off of your energy and knowledge. Thank you for sharing!🌺
Lisa, I just discovered your channel tonight, and can I just say, this style of video is exactly what I’ve been searching for but could not find. You’re so well spoken, knowledgeable, and personable. I’ve wanted someone to teach me how to use implements, how to choose colors, how to apply makeup, etc. and you do these things in spades! Thank you so much and keep the videos coming, please! ❤️
Thank you for including recommendations for smaller eyes! It took me forever to realize I needed smaller versions of what i saw all the youtubers using to make looks work on my eyes. Picking up some of your recommendations!
Thank you, Lisa. You are an incredible fountain of information. It makes sense now, to use smaller brushes on smaller eyes. I so appreciate your videos. Hugs❣
The video posted just in time for me, I was looking at makeup brushes. Now I feel much better informed and will find the correct brushes needed. Thank you!
What a great video! I have been buying brushes with abandon and now I know much better how to use them! The only thing I was hoping for was some specific direction on brushes for cream products for the face. I have mature skin and cream products look much better on me than lots of powder. However, I can use the great info you shared and figure things out from there. Thank you!
I learn so much from you with every video you post being a beginner using different types of brushes and makeup in general thank you so much for sharing you give me so much inspiration ♡♡♡
Phary Svay I think she’s the most approachable “real” beauty person and it can make you feel like that. That’s what’s great about YT is that personal connection we can feel. It’s cool to k is that some people don’t come off with a “better than” attitude on their channel.
Hi Lisa, This video is fantastic!!! I often struggle with choosing the "right" brush for each task. I really appreciate your detailed descriptions for each and your reasoning for application. I like that you identify which brushes are best for smaller faces and eyes. I find a few brushes far too large and I feel clumsy sometimes using them, but it’s great to hear from you that I can use them for other purposes and in future choose a different brush. Investing in a full variety set of your own choosing is expensive so I thank you for sharing your knowledge which will help me to avoid costly mistakes in the future. 💕😚💕 Alli
This was very helpful! Thank you for taking the time and giving great examples, as well as other brushes that would also do the job! You are a great teacher! ♥
As usual Lisa, thank you for the brush tutorial. I still have a tendency to get my eye shades a little muddy, but I'm practicing! By the way I watched one of your videos where your little one was zooming around your house on her motorized scooter (or whatever it's called).....so adorable! And she's downright good. I hope your daughter is feeling well and not having problems anymore with seizures. That is so scary! I have two granddaughters and so I know how worrisome it can be when they have something going on. I worked for many years as a paramedic on an advanced life support ambulance and no matter how trained I was I still had a very hard time holding it together when a child was in my care! God bless her!
I was searching for review on Mac brushes that I want to add to my collection and found yours. May I just say this is the best video on brushes that I have ever seen. You are very lovely and elaborative. Thank you 💕
Thank you for sharing your favorite brushes, especially some smaller ones because I have hooded eyes and don't have a lot of lid space. Also, the demo really helped me visualize what the brushes do. Thanks! ❤️
Second time I've watched this great video. This time I made a list of the brushes I actually intend to buy that I don't already have. You are the best influencer and I can depend on your advice always to be spot on. As I always say, Thank You so much for doing what you do, and doing it so well. Much love.💖
I love mac brushes, I've been using them for years and they're falling apart. I want to purchase new ones but they say that some of them are totally different from the old ones. I guess the ones that you're showing are the old ones. What about making a video comparing the old and the new ones side by side? It would be really informative... Thanks...
I absolutely love this video, thank you so much for this detailed, informative video. You've made my decision on what brushes to buy so much easier. Appreciate your know how. Thank you
Hi Lisa, I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to face atelier. I bought the foundation over the holidays and I have tried about 40 (at least) foundations in the last yes since I went on tretinoin and nothing was working not even cus I had dry skin but also it just would not adhere it would just slide right off but this foundation works and I am sooo so happy finally (how silly) more ppl should know about this foundation so thank you so much for mentioning it!
Hi Lisa, I am loving your video tutorials. Can you share with me toward the end of the video what eyeshadow palette you demonstrated the corner of eyes was? Loving that palette. I am a palette fanatic. 🤗. Thank you so much Renee
Hello Lisa J, great video on brushes. Thank you so much for the great advice & information. I'm glad you included using smaller brushes on smaller features. I have hooded eyes & discovered some mini brushes by Morphe that are just perfect. Like you, I also use high end & lower priced brushes too. Looking forward to the next new video. Cheers 😉 🌷
I love Wayne Goss and Esum brushes! I also have some beautiful It Cosmetics and Real Techniques brushes that I also love. Love my Sonia Kashuk large powder brush, Morphe foundation brushes, and some beautiful Sephora brand Pro Featherweight line brushes. The No. 93 is a lot like the MAC 137. Finally I have some brushes purchased years ago from Senna Cosmetics. Those are great too! The Baby Face 21 is my beloved under-eye setting brush😊 Wonderful video!
I loved this video. I also have the same handleless Elf brush lol. I also have the same sigma brush that I use to apply under eye powder. I recently purchased the Elf complexion bush and it has longer soft bristles. I find it applies minimal powder (Yea! I apply very minimal powder and have been looking for something like this for a while) it also applies my hourglass finishing powder beautifully. It never applies to much.
I can see that you are an expert on makeup brushes too! great vídeo! It would be so nice if you made one for people with mature skin because the application and the blending of everything is completely different!! Thank you!
Awesome video! I really appreciate you sharing both high end and drugstore brushes. I have a few high end and several drugstore. I’m loving the Real Technique line. Can’t believe my It Cosmetics foundation brush broke last week. I’m still using it without the bottom handle but I’ll have to hot glue it back together. Didn’t expect that to happen lol. Have a great Sunday Lisa 😍
Yes there a lot of complaints about the MAC synthetic brushes and their price point for being synthetic. The long favored & loved brushes that are now are not so well received. This makes me a bit trepidatious about replacing my MAC 224 brush. OG 224😆👍🏼 I’ve heard your preference on concealer application but I have to say I’m loving the MAC 270 brush for my concealer. I use it under eyes as well as around the nose. The Maybelline Age Rewind concealer I now use didn’t work well with the MAC brush (#? faded) I was using and I heard rave reviews on the MAC 270. I’d like to hear your opinion on the brush. You have SO many brushes but I do have some of your MAC faves so I think I’m on the right track. 🙂
Thank you for your fantastic video of brushes! You did an amazing job with explaining how each brush is shaped, what to look for in a brush & how to use it correctly. I can't wait to try the brushes that you recommended!! I have washed my brushes with different kinds of products & different ways to dry them. Can you do a video of what technique you use & how to dry them properly?
LOVE this video. Just purchased ALL your BK Beauty brushes, super brushes! could you do a video on how to use them?, especially confused on the 5 face ones- thanks!
Aww thank you so much for your support! I hope you love them! Yes, I have a couple of videos on them here is one specifically on the precision set :) th-cam.com/video/yI5jki68lwM/w-d-xo.html
Ulta has a great powder brush. Just their store brand but so soft and easy to apply powder with. I have 2 of those IT brushes like yours and I love them!
Hi Terri!! Sorry of the delay! I just pinned a comment at the top addressing the new MAC synthetic brushes. I think I am goin to buy some and do a comparison to the old. :)
I missed this for some reason. OH NOOOOO I’m sorry I was charging phone and today I didn’t see the notification. I just love you. And now , THANKS TO YOU, I CAN USE SIGMA BRUSHES. I just LOVE how helpful your videos are, and you. Thanks for all you do !!! Love you
Great video. I have that 2 sided IT Cosmetics brush, but I have never used it for foundation, LOL I rarely wear foundation anymore, but I use that brush to dust my T-zone with powder. It works really well for it!
Great video! How would you compare the ecotools full powder brush to real techniques powder brush 201 and UD Pro tapered large powder brush? Struggling to decide between these. Thank you
Hi Lisa! I really appreciate how thorough and informative your videos are, thank you! Would you consider a video on how to contour? I don’t contour because I feel it never looks natural. I think I’m doing it wrong. I could greatly benefit from your expertise and tips!
The sigma F35 high lighter brush was my first sigma brush - and I find that I reach for it over and over and that it's really helped me to bring up my highlighter game. I'm trying to figure out what it is that I like about any particular brush so that I can learn from what I like about something.
I have been waiting for this video from you! I have accumulated quite a collection of brushes over the last year, I never knew what a difference good brushes could make. I have several that you have recommended before from IT and Mac but my favorite are the Sigma brushes. Most of them are in this video!
@@neshmahenkel2428 The Sigma eye brushes are my favorites E40 blending, E70 Angled and E37 All over blending. I bought several of their sets or bundles and the Make Me Classy set has the best mix of eye and face brushes . I do like the IT brushes better for the face, blush & powder, but I use and love them all!
Linda Liffers oh ok, thanks. Was trying to decide between IT and Sigma for the face. I used to sell them when I worked at Ulta. Haven’t used Sigma. Thanks again for your reply.
Appreciate this brush tutorial. I’ve been looking forward to it. Very helpful. When you get the order of the 3 MAC crease brushes to replace the 221 could you explain the difference between the older version with the new synthetic fibre that MAC is using now. I’ve heard it isn’t quite the quality anymore. I’m on the fence about investing in the new MAC synthetic brushes if it’s not any better than the Real Techniques versions which I have already. The MAC brushes cost a lot more.
I love the It cosmetics brushes for the face. So soft and wash really well. I use Wayne Goss for my eyes and love those too. I was using an artis oval 7 for foundation but it has snapped( I see from comments that this is common) and not sure what I will buy to replace it. Great video Lisa, thank you. X
Lisa thank you Lisa I will try and find that one. I tried a sigma F82 this morning as looked a similar shape to your foundation one. It worked ok. I’ve watched your video again and saved it too as so full of useful information. Thanks again. X
Great video as always ... I love both the high end and drugstore options. I am wondering why makeup artists always use brushes while beauty bloggers tend use use sponges for foundation application?
Such a great video! I now have a better understanding on how to best use my brushes. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. What do you think of Sephora brushes?
Would u consider reviewing the Wayne Goss brushes? They are so soft and targeted. I assume you'd have to buy them though (expensive) though...thru Beautylish.
I found this super helpful. I’d be very curious to see how the new MAC brushes perform compared to the ones you have. I’ve heard they aren’t as good for the price.
Thank you for explaining the uses of the different brushes. This tutorial has given me the information I’ve been looking for in a long time. Unfortunately when shopping for brushes you don’t seem to find a sales person to fully explain its uses. They don’t have the time. Thank you again for this tutorial and am off to the store to buy the brushes I’m interested in purchasing. 👍
I have Mac, sigma, it cosmetic and many other brands, but the Wayne goss brushes are by far the best brushes I have ever used. They clean up very well, dry quickly and the application is flawless. If you purchase single brushes, the per brush price is less than lower quality brands.
Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Sure, this was not short, but very informative and that takes its time. Learned something new (as always 😉). Hugs and kisses Sabine
I use that same IT cosmetics blush brush and really love it. I also have some elf brushes that I’ve been really into lately. I have a few of the bent small tipped eyeliner brushes from morphe that were only three bucks each that are both great for eyebrows and eyeliner and I think those are great for their price! I have one morphe highlighter type brush that I think is natural hair (I could be wrong) but it’s scratchy and has frayed out pretty bad after a few washes so I won’t be getting that one again. The only IT brush that I’ve had fall apart on me was the duel ended foundation and concealer brush. I feel like it should have held up a lot longer for the more hefty price tag it has on it. Brushes I’m going to buy this year will be fluffy crease and blending ones.
Hey Lisa....love this video and realized it is a couple years old...the Mac 213 is discontinued...is there another brush you would recommend?? Thanks so much!!!
Great video Lisa! I have a few of the same brushes that you have. I would love to purchase some of Wayne Goss' brushes...maybe in the future. Thanks for sharing with us Lisa!

Hi Lisa,

Linda Liffers oh ok, thanks. Was trying to decide between IT and Sigma for the face. I used to sell them when I worked at Ulta. Haven’t used Sigma. Thanks again for your reply.
Linda Liffers Love IT Cosmetics brushes❤️
Great! Thank you so much Linda :)
Once again another informative video! Thank You Lisa❤️
Thank you Kellie!
DB I don’t own an artis brush. But, the real techniques brush that resembles an artis brush works great!
Lisa thank you Lisa I will try and find that one. I tried a sigma F82 this morning as looked a similar shape to your foundation one. It worked ok. I’ve watched your video again and saved it too as so full of useful information. Thanks again. X
Thank you so much!
Thank you!
Great suggestion! Will add to my list! Thank you Ivanalese!
Thank you!! I too have been looking forward to this video! Now... where do you keep them all? ❤️
What do you use to clean your brushes and how often?
I found this super helpful. I’d be very curious to see how the new MAC brushes perform compared to the ones you have. I’ve heard they aren’t as good for the price.
CC Quick They’re not good at ANY price imo
Thank you thank you this was very helpful.
Thank you Debbie!
Excellent video with great info! Thank u!
Thanks Barbara!
Great video! I missed this one in January.
Thank you so much Joy!
Thank you for this video! Lisa, can you please recommend a very good coverage primer? Something that is really great! Thank you!
Happy this was so helpful! Thanks Vicki! :)
Thanks for another great video. I have some of the brushes you mentioned and will purchase some of your recommendations.
Yay! Thanks Alice :)
I have Mac, sigma, it cosmetic and many other brands, but the Wayne goss brushes are by far the best brushes I have ever used. They clean up very well, dry quickly and the application is flawless. If you purchase single brushes, the per brush price is less than lower quality brands.
Great! Thank you so much! :)
Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Sure, this was not short, but very informative and that takes its time. Learned something new (as always 😉). Hugs and kisses Sabine
Thank you so much Sabine :)
Wow, sounds like you have quite the collection and done a lot of the research and trial and error! Thanks Britt!
Thanks for the informative and very helpful video...learning more about which one works best fot application is a game changer
Thank you Laya! :)
Hey Lisa....love this video and realized it is a couple years old...the Mac 213 is discontinued...is there another brush you would recommend?? Thanks so much!!!
Thanks - this was quite helpful.
Thanks Kathy-Anne! :)
Loved this video. Learned a lot on brushes thank you!
Thank you so much!
Great video Lisa! I have a few of the same brushes that you have. I would love to purchase some of Wayne Goss' brushes...maybe in the future. Thanks for sharing with us Lisa!
Thank you so much Kim!
Do you ever use the mini sponges? My favorite is the Real Techniques but the Beauty Blender has them too.
