The first X-Raided album, Psycho Active, was recorded in June 1990 with Sacramento rapper Brotha Lynch Hung, and released in 1992. Brown claims that the recording was made during a deadly conflict between the 24th Street Garden Blocc Crips and the Meadowview Bloods, contributing to lyrics full of violence. Rolling Stone Magazine wrote that "Psycho Active" was the most gangster album of all time.
In March 1992, Brown was arrested with four other gang members for murdering Patricia Harris in her home. He was convicted of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of gang-related homicide and was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison.
From 1993 to 1995, he recorded songs over the telephone while in jail awaiting trial. They were released on the 1995 album Xorcist. One track begins with a recording of a collect call which identifies him as "an inmate in Sacramento County Jail". This second album garnered even more attention and it was covered in various mainstream media outlets including Playboy (September 1996).
His third album, Unforgiven (1998), was recorded on a DAT recorder smuggled in by a prison guard.[1] Beats were added later by producer DJ VerbalTek. His fourth, Speak of the Devil (2000), was credited to the pseudonymous "Nefarious" in order to evade California's Son of Sam II law, and his fifth, The Initiation (2001), was released on his own label, Madman Records. X Raided also earned a degree in Psychology and helped implement programs to aid in rehabilitation of inmates to be paroled and anti recidivism.
Brown was paroled on September 14, 2018 after serving 26 years in prison. He said shortly after his release that he was abandoning his X-Raided persona and would perform as "Anerae Veshaughn", releasing music with a positive message. Despite this he has released four albums and 13 singles under his original persona of X-Raided since his release.
X Raided recently inked a lucrative partnership between his BlocStar label and independent powerhouse Strange Music.

i’ve been watching ur channel for a while now and i’m willing to say that this interview is by far the most useful to me personally. I’m now 37 years old, but at the tender age of 14 i moved to central california and i was introduced to xraided’s music. I was immediately captured by the way he was able to articulate a lifestyle he and so many of us once lived. unfortunately with me constantly listening to his music through my walkman became fuel to my already lit fire of self destruction. By the grace of God through trials and tribulations I was able to see the error in my methods and directions. Now to see this brotha released from prison and stand on the fact that he contributed to destruction in so many ways and truly understand that there is a better way to teach the youth to express themselves, relieve stress from themselves, and love themselves is nothing short of beautiful! I commend the two of you and i support the New Men you two have grown to be. Salute to u both May God continue to bless your Process 💪🏿✊🏿✊🏿

Nice observation, being from the Bay Area I can see what you mean. NorCal sound was more raw and underground. SoCal is where Hollywood and the record labels are so they had more opportunity to go commercial. The Bay Area had independent hustle and a lot of musical history from different bands.

1999, I was visiting Sacramento from Chicago. I was 17, had no Internet access, never heard of. x-raided until that visit to Sam goody. Had no idea what I was in for. Still bumped this album today. One of my favorites. Didn’t even know he did it from prison until years later. So happy to hear his story from his own mouth. Shout out to the big Homie.

Much love to X-raided. I came up in Sactown. Went to Florin, Sheldon and Calvine High in the late 90’s. Ended up doing a 6 piece for armed robbery got out and flipped my life around. I know what that’s like and you being a big brother role model for all these young cats is huge.

I Did 38 Months and There's Never a day promised. Also did Two Long Years of County Time, Various Stretches, longest Six Months & 4 Months. When I did the Ten Months in County I knew I could do Prison Time and also knew that eventually I'd end up doing State Time. On probation, Court School, Matrix Etc Etc Anyway Mayne, No Cap, You're a Legend to Us All. Felt like we were in there with ya. Thanks for going hard, and Neva Giving Up.
