I just watched it this morning. It stared out like a Tyler Perry movie, but then it got spooky. I was like “oh 💩, this is a horror movie?!” I really enjoyed it, all star cast.
Just finished this, it's okay though the exorcism part is like most horror movies but with a slight twist. The lady who played the mum is good and so is Glenn Close.
Its a shame. All the actresses and even child actors are amazing. But the script and directing let this movie down. The first 2/3 of the movie is real, raw and entertaining. Then it falls flat as a horror film. Mo'nique steals the scene as usual, but in the end she doesn't do anything. A shame!!
I thought it was a great movie until about ten minutes before the exorcism started-things went downhill fast from there. To be fair, this film faces the same challenge any movie with an exorcism does: it's been done a million times before, making it nearly impossible to present something truly fresh. The last movie to pull it off successfully was "When Evil Lurks." I couldn't help but laugh out loud at some parts of the exorcism, especially when the "demon Glenn Close" showed up-that was hilarious. Unfortunately, some scenes felt more like evangelical proselytism than anything else. It’s such a shame because Andra Day and Glenn Close did an excellent job portraying the dysfunctional relationship between their characters and Anthony B. Jenkins pulled off a really scary kid. But that ending? Pure horror, though not in the way the director intended.
Just watched Longlegs and now THAT is a movie. Brilliant execution and cinematography combined with terrific casting - it’s foreboding from start to finish
Your not alone that old woman with all her plastic surgery ruined the movie for me and my gf with all her corny horny talk towards young men like wtf @@Dbarr311
The mother was abusing her kids. She learned it from her mother, down to cussing overly to her kids, calling her daughter a b-ish. Plus, she is violent to the kids who bullied her son, showimg her tendancy to be violent with children.
That’s not the Andra Day I see. But if she addressed about the abuse for this movie, it’ll make us understand that we as the victims of abuse can never go toward the light, but we shined the light on instead. If this movie is inspired by the true story, then why is Lee making Andra’s character too horrible. I loved her as a Rise Up Lady and she’ll encourage other people who were abused as she was forgiving the actions of her own, just like Justin Baldoni. It’s too sad since I read your comment about the plot, but I’ve never watched it before.
I just watched this and I must say the actresses all kick ass. But the problem is the 3rd act. What I love about this movie is how real it was. The mother and grandmother are problematic and straight up! This movie falls flat as horror film. It should have been a family drama because as a huge horror fan, I prefer the non horror first part of the movie.
My Dearly beloved American brothers and sisters, The words “terror”, “mirror” and most importantly “horror” all have 2 syllables each. But when you say them terror becomes “tare” mirror becomes “meer” and most tragically of all, horror becomes “whore” This causes Australian children to roll about laughing but then most disturbingly, they walk around for days saying things like “It’s a whore movie” and “I looked in the meer but I couldn’t see my reflection, I was filled with tare as all I saw were dreadful whores” And it takes kids days to get sick of things like this and makes their teachers wonder what these children are hearing at home! Please Americans, PLEASE I beg you, horror has 2 syllables. Not 2 syllables smeared together but 2 distinct syllables. You can do it! I believe in you! 🙏
I appreciate the depth of your review, but I’m shocked at the 4/5 couches. For me, that is extremely generous. I found that the movie didn’t know what it wanted to be: a story about family trauma, or a haunted house movie? It did the former better than the latter, IMO. It was too long, the pacing was odd, the editing at times was poor, the writing could have been sharper. It needed to get cleaned up a lot to be truly effective. The acting was really good and was a strength of the movie. 2/5 out of 5 couches for me.
Yall trippin. This movie was aaaaaaaaaaaaaass! Following one of the most unlikeable characters as she abused and cursed out her kids. Fuck that. I could give less of a shit if she handles her situation
Oh my, I just watched this movie. I swear it surely scared the living chit out of me. I almost had to turn the movie off, because it start to get extremely graphic for me. In all though, I definitely loved the movie. 🔥🔥
This movie had a Stephen King quality to it the way the story crashes in the end. What a huge miss here for Lee Daniels with an amazing cast and a convincing family drama. There is no reason for the story's demon to be literal with such relatable and real character dynamics. Ebony was clearly already on the run from her demons, and her family and friends knew it. She had a husband off to war, a dying mother who is trying to reconcile, smart children being bullied, financial distress, and Monique breathing down her neck. Everyone in the story has experienced deep trauma combined with substance abuse and abandonment. There was no reason to add literal demon possession. Ebony was running from herself and in the end, fighting her own dysfunction with the same strength she displayed fighting the bullies. That's the huge miss here. Ebony's super strength is real, while the whole spiritual off ramp has her speaking in tongues and robs the character of believability and relatability. I would much rather see Ebony at the end having saved herself with no longer the need for faith, rather she herself gained back control of her life. Still a good movie.
Saw this movie, it's fairly good, though I think the best part is the acting and character relationships, rather than the actual horror. There are some horror elements that some characters described as having happened to the kids, but we never actually saw too much of it. Love the entire cast, Andra Day and Glenn Close are amazing.
Other TH-camrs were already poised not to like the film regardless…it was really good and the youngest kid was great too! All the acting was solid all around.
Let’s be clear, this is NOT a good movie, but the cast was phenomenal and Glenn Close stole the show. But I’m not sure why this “not scary” boring movie is getting so much love.
It’s crazy that people think this movie is bad, if you’re looking at this film from a spiritual and emotional perspective you see how devastating it is. The mom’s life of sin opened the doors for her children to be possessed by the demon, this film does a good job of showing that these issues are very real but with a supernatural twist. The accuracy of the Christian faith and how we would deal with a situation like this is very pleasing and the ending🤌🏽 chefs kiss. Love this film
I do not mean to insult you but you are insane. This is one of the worst movies ever made, the weakest scripts ever written, the worst acting iv ever laid eyes on. This is a 0.5 / 10. and its lucky its getting that.
The crimes against humanity Lee Daniels made Glenn close do in this movie😂 it was a lil to evangelically for my taste but wasn't a horrible movie and to know the houas and story behind it is kinda crazy

Netflix has not been delivering great shit recently. Terminator Zero sucked. Is there no great writers and directors out there?!
Terminator zero was awesome
Agreed!
Terminator zero reviews indicate you're wrong. Getting great reception from audiences and critics.
I loved the movie focus on the family. about the religious in the movie, it would be difficult to have demons possessing people without it.:)
