Heavy Yet Delicate: This 6x6 is Special

  • It's a 1/14 RC truck modelled after the Mercedes-Benz Zetros 6x6 with twin dual-wheel axles. It's heavy and as we've said before, this epic RC truck is clearly designed with heavy hauling in mind.
    The Zetros 6x6 Truck's drivetrain is super heavy-duty and includes a 2-speed transmission and remote locking diffs on all three axles. Apart from a minor issue with my review unit's rear drive-shaft (since addressed), the entire truck just screams "LOAD ME HEAVY!".
    From epic rear leaf stacks to 8 high-rigidity rubber tires in the rear, the big Zetros 6x6 truck is purpose-built to haul the heaviest scale loads you have.
    RC4WD lists this vehicle as the JD Customs Sledge Hammer, but whether it's JDC or JDM, this big rig is the new go-to for heavy scale loads.

    I still can't get over how good this rig looks. Particularly the metal bits. Those shiny, polished gas tanks really brings the whole rig together, IMO. I would probably be inclined to spray some clear coat on the plastic body to make it look a bit more metal-ly and shiny too.
    Also, regarding the back axles' mud-guards, I'm pretty sure those are usually made of rubber in the real trailers I see every day. They usually swing from the - relatively thin- rod they're - in this case- welded to. They also have a swing angle limit, with some locks on the rubber, to avoid them getting run over by the tires. Could be a nice project to remove these and try to make them all rubber, even with the ability to swing a bit. Would make it so scale with the swinging taillights (and a dab of Tamiya's X-26 on the indicators to round it all up)!
    Love seeing the two-speed, the locking axles at work. It seems so much fun... If I had the chance to get my hands on one I'd be torn to get this 6x6 or maybe the single rear axle, and try to make it a Dakar-themed truck...

      The Fusion is a wonderfully compact device, given they've crammed the ESC and BEC in its base. It fit with a little room to spare, even. I think the Fusion may just be my favourite general-use power system for crawlers. Love it.

  • @DaveGlitchHare

    While I'm not in the market for this type of truck, I can see it's appeal. I've seen the same problem with driveshafts before, and was "fixed" with a small bit of heat shrink tubing. I also like the Hobbywing Fusion, I installed one in my TRX4 Sport kit. Lovely smooth!

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Fusion is legendary. Good thinking by HW.
      I've tried heat shrink on these things before but if it's torn open by a rock it doesn't last long. I've had better durability from tesa tape so far... But maybe a combo of both would be a winner?

    • @DaveGlitchHare
      @DaveGlitchHare 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @YoShImUrA53
      @YoShImUrA53 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCTNT Besides the classic heat shrink tube, for your particular application I've also considered a very small dab of Shoe-goo on either side of the pin hole -or some other somewhat elastic, but strong adhesive- to prevent it from running away, in any case. Maybe worth a test... it'd be almost invisible if it could hold up!

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I have that stuff here. I don't think it would work as well as the tape. It works best on the broad surfaces of the polycarbonate bodies on heavy bash trucks. Helps keep them from cracking to bits. But on the pins, I dunno-I suspect it wouldn't have enough surface to grab onto. The tape works really well so far and I know it's durable stuff.
      Best fix would be a grub screw to replace the pin and clip system. Maybe drill out the diameter a bit, maybe not. But I'll see how the tape lasts and we'll go from there. It sticks to itself really well, in all weather. Wonderful stuff!

    Good looking truck there. Never heard of tesa tape before, it looks like good stuff! I couldn't help but see it looks like the trailer hitch might be flat mounted to the frame. Might be possible to space it up so it works with your heavy lowboy trailer but it sounds like you have some fun plans for the Zetros :).
