    No you guys must understand that even though you are still alive your spirit can be reincarnated, when she was pregnant with the baby, the baby's spirit is from the girl at the end of the video and when she was talking during the video it was from the baby's point of view. The shaman came to call her spirit back home and she still had living parents calling her back she couldn't fulfill her duty to become the baby and be reincarnated as the new born.

      It would be even cooler if the Shaman has a horse, but I know that would be a lot of work for this film if that’s the case. They did it very good.

    This aspect of our Hmong culture has always intrigued me and it's refreshing to see a depiction of it visually. I'm glad to have come upon this video because its storytelling has blown my mind. There was a perfect amount of information for me to be able to piece it together, yet leave enough open to my imagination on *what if?* What if the couple have reached the shaman first? Would the baby be born healthy and the other girl ends up dying? Did the shaman know of the situation already, hence she didn't answer the couple's call?

    I'm not sure why but this film reminds me of my neighbor's daughter when I was a kid. She is around four or five at the time. One day she become very ill, as the elder put it, txoj sia yuav tu tsis tu. Her parents dressed her in tradition outfit as the neighbors and relatives gather around her. A red cloth tie to her ankle, hoping to hold her spirit with her body. In the end she passed away.

    I can relate to this. I feel the pain when it comes to losing your most precious one. I've been there done that, and all we do is grieve for them. But most of all we just wish that they would stay, n be our precious little one.

    I’m a Christian so I don’t believe in reincarnation but I find this part of the Hmong culture very interesting. My question to those who believes in reincarnation is if every newborn spirit is from another person that died then how is the world population increasing and not stay the same?

    • @lewisvang1927
      @lewisvang1927 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you look at it from this perspective then yes. It is believed that once the spirit is reborn into a baby, then the other person's spirit will fall ill and eventually died. In some cases, these spirits are reborn and have grown up to become adults before the other person starts to feel ill. It is like a spirit linkage. That means that two people are bound by the same spirit and neither are strong, but the person that had the spirit leave will later succumb to illness. One con to this kind of hu plig is that you can get punish by yawg saub if you do it purposely and way too much. It is only good to perform when a person's spirit has left the body. But I hope you are doing well. Just know that the pain is unbearable, but no matter what we have to get through it.

    • @elizabethvang6203
      @elizabethvang6203 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      IttyBitty Wasabi Yes. The soul can only have one body. Since the shaman successfully retrieved the soul from the brink of death and brought it back to present person (neighbor’s daughter). This is not always case. The spirit can wander anywhere. This person’s soul just accidentally entered or near reincarnation door.

      In this religion, when a mother is with child the family must protect the fetus by contacting a shaman to do the ceremony. They must either sacrifice an animal or use a product per Sherman's (skilled choice) to feed off the bad spirits.
      In this clip, you can see the husband keeps trying to call the shaman and had no luck... the wife all of a sudden went into labor with out the ceremony begging complete. This is why she lost her child... coming home from the hospital after her lost. They see the shaman came to do a ceremony for their neighbor and was left with grief.

      As a pregnant woman, before your due date; around your 6 or 7 months, you'll have to "ua neeg" to separate the soul between the mother and the fetus. While being pregnant, we are believed that the mother and the fetus shared one soul until you "ua neeb" to separate the two to have a safe delivery.
      But in this scenario, the girl next door have been sick , which one of her soul left; we are known to have multiple soul. And her soul that has left was the soul of the fetus trying to be reborn again. And in this situation they weren't able to contact the shaman lady to "ua neeb" which the shaman lady was already helping the sick girl, so when the shaman lady did her ritual for the sick girl and got her soul back, that's when the pregnant loose her stillborn. In the situation, you'll have to save one or the other only; so it's either the sick girl or fetus.
      Hope this makes sense. Since this is just my understanding of it.
