Enid Blyton was served up here with pictures of Virginia Woolf. Naughty.

Good catch! Mixing up authors like that definitely takes away from the credibility. Hopefully, they correct it soon!

I was fully expecting to see Orson Scott Card in this list. His writing celebrated the individual growth and development possible for humanity when people accepted each other for the unique miracles we each of us are. This contrasted sharply with Card's opposition to gay/lesbian marriage and LGBTQ issues generally. You'd never imagine such an ideology if you only knew him from his books.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's definitely surprising when the beliefs of a writer don't align with the values their works seem to promote. Orson Scott Card is an excellent example of this, as his novels often celebrate themes of empathy, individuality, and understanding, which can seem at odds with his outspoken views on LGBTQ+ issues. Many readers find it difficult to reconcile these differences, but it's also a reminder that authors, like anyone, can hold complex and sometimes contradictory beliefs. The contrast between personal beliefs and artistic messages can spark important conversations, as you’ve highlighted.

      He's Mormón.

@@gretchengraef3012 True, but plenty of LDS members supported same sex marriage and other LGBTQ+ causes. I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to his opinions...only that they contrast so sharply with the world view he created in his stories. A person who can write with such depth of feeling about acceptance of others and the pain of living as an outsider is not someone you'd expect to harbor such intolerance. So that's my point about him being such a sterling candidate for inclusion in this video's list.

The older generation are more likely to not support this group. From experience, it appears that the younger generation are more accepting of people they way they are.

@@gretchengraef3012 You make a valid point about generational differences in attitudes, especially within certain communities. While it's true that older generations may be less accepting, it's still surprising when a writer like Card, who creates such empathetic, inclusive worlds in his stories, holds views that feel so at odds with those themes. It just highlights how complex people-and their beliefs-can be.

First two in and these aren't hypocritical. As a person who is pro choice and religious, being pro life is not inherently religious. Tolkien has monarchy all over the place in Lord of the rings which is authoritarian. Plus while living through something we do not know as much as we do looking back at it.
People change views as they live and also writing about something doesn't mean they embody their writing

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback! I completely agree that people’s views can evolve over time, and writing about certain themes doesn’t necessarily mean the author fully embodies them. Our goal was to highlight instances where writers held beliefs or acted in ways that seemed to contrast with certain aspects of their public personas or works, but of course, it's always open to interpretation.
Now that the video is done, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the rest of it. Do any other examples stand out to you, or are there additional perspectives you'd like to share? Thanks again for engaging with the content!
