    Finally someone actually gives their interpretation of the lyrics and doesn’t just “react”. This dudes writing skills are like legit insane, imagine reading this with no music or anything, and just viewing it as poetry. The music is great of course, but not enough TH-camrs focus on what Vessel is trying to say. It’s the kind of writing that gets me pumped to pick up a pen and paper lmaooo

      I'll be honest I never took it into account of trying to see the story, because with sleep token , it's hard to decipher what he really is saying, but I think his interpretation of this song is really good tbh, this is my first reaction him as well. It's based on vessels relationship
      "So Vessel stating a desire to be taken “back to Eden” afterward can be interpreted as Eden, in context, being symbolic of the reasonable, more-peaceful days of his relationship with the addressee, i.e. back to the euphoria stage, when they actually got along."

    Eden is the very concept of blissful ignorance. He will travel far beyond the path of reason to chase the comfort he longs for.

  • @TheNamesFathom
    @TheNamesFathom ปีที่แล้ว +29

    The way I interpreted it is sort of the movement of a man between two relationships. His first relationship was healthy, and for some unknown reason it was ended. This relationship could be described as Eden, the biblical paradise, heaven on earth. Following the end of this relationship the man is desperate to find something similar to what he once had with his old partner. Blinded by his desire, the man seeks out a new partner, ignoring red flags because of how desperately he wants to feel like he’s in Eden again. The end of the song could be the man coming to his senses, realizing that his new relationship is not healthy. The harsh vocals here sound bitter and desperate, as if the man has just discovered how bad his mistake was. “I have travelled far beyond the path of reason (he was blinded by desire), take me back to Eden (and he wants his healthy relationship back). The final scream of “TAKE ME BAAAACK, TO EEE-DENNNNNN” is like a final cry of defeat, as the man faces the fact that he may never know peace again.

  • @MichaelEldridgClever

    bravo my man. Not only is it extremely moving, its massively thought provoking. There is one take on this whole line of thought..., which (although mostly metaphoric), the story of eden was never about some mistake that was made like the orthodox push. But instead.., the only way to re-member and to fully appreciate paradise or home..., is to leave. Or at least we believe we left. We never did, but the veil of illusions keep us from it. Like roses trying to become roses, we spend our whole lives looking for glimpses of that origin. I'm not religious but its in the religious books even - "The kingdom of heaven is laid out before men, but men do not see it." The people that find it again don't learn anything new, they simply remember something they forgot. Which begs the question (metaphoric or not), is the dark really the enemy. Is leaving the garden really a terrible thing if it means rediscovering it with further appreciation? "One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making darkness conscious." ~Carl Jung. Whatever anyone's view on the whole thing is, the creator of Eden HAD to have known what his children would do. How is it a mistake if they were using their given freewill? God knew what they would do in the story. I don't believe it was punishment, but more part of the whole plan. Divide infinity by any number and you still get infinity. Energy becomes matter, but its always Still..., just energy. Even if it forgets what it is. Even if it thinks it left the garden. We were always meant to eat that apple (again, metaphoric or not).

    at first i didn't really like the heavy ending of this but i think it's very intentional. that middle interlude is like a bright light shining through, with a sense of transcendence and higher understanding of the situation, a moment of clarity and reflection, but then it goes into "oh my those eyes like fire" again, and even with that clear understanding, he still gets pulled right back in, he still follows the same cycle and still wants so desperately for the "thing" to work, to return to the "days of eden" no matter how much he understands that it is a dark and corrupted bait. also I don't care what anyone says about the "Sleep" lore and all that, I think every single ST song (or at least most of them) are about a toxic and abusive relationship

    • @HushtheAbsent
      @HushtheAbsent ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hell, even the lore kinda hints at that. Loving someone so deeply and almost desperately. Worshipping them.
      Side note: the incorporation of Chokehold got me in the feels hard 😅 eluding even more to the return to the cycle. I don't think the lyrical choice was an "accodent" either.
      If you've ordered the CD, you're in for a treat. Whole new cypher is included

But looks like I'm going to have to now, you've convinced me 😁 Chokehold has been one of my favorite songs this year - I was very pleased to hear that line pop up! There are so many recurring lyrical themes throughout the entire 3 albums, and direct references, really a work of art

    What i found interesting was in the video during the last little bit you can see something covering the wall behind the, I'm guessing an angel of death. During that last few seconds you can see that the wall has a gold look and texture almost and makes me think about the lyrics from their song Chokehold when he says "I'll turn my walls to gold to bring you home again." And the fact that their are some lyrics taken from the beginning of Chokehold and are at the end of this song makes me think that he is trying to bring death to him. I don't know if that was their intention or not but could be maybe something.

    "He's following death" - You're almost certainly correct. The still form character that the video revolves around is wearing a hood and carrying a scythe, as death would, and appears to have a face shrouded in hair or tendrils/tentacles or something. Might just be some sort of Cthulhu and Death combination. And the most important elements of hell would probably end up being the "Nine Circles" and the Gates/River Styx. Places like those would have been watched over by Archdemons or "Demon Lords", which is just my way of saying what a fallen Archangel would have become after Satan's fall from grace. So maybe that part explains the wings too? The wings just tying that creature to what it ONCE was. An Archangel. So this might not be him following, but the Archdemon leading you on their journey as they fell from grace and then became a "Denizen of Hell". And because they can never get back to that place of sanctuary(Eden), they'll forever remember it and wish that they could go back to that place.

    My take on this song is that its about the devolution of human. Blindly following what were told without question. Take me back to Eden.take me back to the place when times were more human....when people cared, when we thought about what we were saying, cared about our conversations....when we didn't hold our pay stub above human life.

    I love you asking if he's asking for forgiveness or help. But he's really just crying out for things to go back to when everything in the relationship was good. "Eden" is that honeymoon phase of a relationship and things eventually started to slip away and he lost it all

  • @DamnDaniTV69
    @DamnDaniTV69 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The way I interoperate it lies in "Eden." When we think of Eden we think biblical, a paradise of unimaginable peace, birth of man, all of that. He is putting his faith in these things hoping they'll bring him the peace he craves. He gets burned time and time again by the fire and questions his faith, "biting back" against those he's believing in. I think it ties into the next song, the final song on the album called "Euclid," which is the completion of his journey. Through questioning his faith I believe he discovers Eden is not some place you can go to. Eden is satisfaction in a complete journey. Eden is happiness. Eden is a paradise. It is where you find peace of mind.
    Sleep Token is my favorite band. I hope you continue to enjoy their music and strive for your Eden as well.
