Really good video and cool graphics. Keep it up it’s only a matter of time before they pop off. I’ve been running Mew/Arcanine a bit but I don’t go against it a lot. Isn’t great against Mewtwo for sure but sometimes you can go nuts off Molt.
Arc9 is great, hard wins Pikachu and celebi, slightly unfavored against Mew2 but I ran 2 copies of Mew just for the Mew2 matchup. Unwinnable against gayrados tho
Best analysis ever. You got me to subscribe with this video! Thank you a lot, this Is a really useful piece of information, i think you already know but with this video the meta Is going to change.
Dude thank you im searching like every few days for videos like this one bc i want to be up to date and you are one of the reasons i am thx and much love ❤ -havko
Amazing vid! Appreciate the work! I personally use a blane deck with the new rapidash and ninetales, it has been doing really well, had a 7 win streak at one point and it crushes both Celebi variants, it’s also fast enough to compete against Gyarados, actually it struggles most against Mewtwo if it goes second. But it was super useful finding out the meta spread!
So well presented and very clear breakdown and analysis. Absolutely solid work my guy. Just got a new sub. Will be looking to you for my future meta reports :D :3
This is such a unique take on the meta, appreciate the hard work. I would be interested in seeing how the table changes with Charizard. I might be wrong, but I think I've heard Fire decks still placing in tournaments.
Nice video. Would have loved to see inclusion of Zard and Arcanine lists. Because from what I've seen those decks seem to still be performing well even if their popularity has dropped
@@loganthorne690 I don't know man. Anytime I browse limitless I'm still finding Zard/Arcanine lists placing well near the top even with substantially less people playing the deck.
For those curious about arcanine: deck does well vs pika &celery, does decent vs mewtwo with a mew in deck and gets smashed by gyrados. Make sure to run 2x gio to kill mews
Very Informative video. But one question I still have is how has Alakazam not made an impact in this meta? With all of these high energy decks around and the mystical slab to increase consistency, shouldn't it be more powerful?
Its such a small percentage of the meta theres just no info on it. Pika still does well against it and it has inherent stage 2 issues but I think you could have a good run with it 😊
Hey ! Great analysis. I wonder how it would affect the charts in the first part of the video if you multiplied the score of each matchup by the meta share of it. What I'm saying is that your analysis is biased by the matchup you selected. A deck that is good vs scoliopede scores 2 point (for 2% meta share) but scores -2 point if bad against Mewtwo or gyarados (10%+ meta share)
Heyo! Sorry for the lengthy reply, but just wanted to go over the thought process for the matchup score, because it is definitely biased in the way you said. If you have a better methodology, please please let me know! I was working on the math for this and kept running into the issue of not having a whole 100% of the meta when I went to assign weights, since almost 40% of the matchups are what we categorised other. So then I tried to use the meta shares (above the deck icons) of the matchups each deck went against and scale it up to 100 that way, but it ended up feeling messy and didn't seem super clear. I ended up going back to doing the super simple score system because it felt like it at least maintained the relative order of the decks while being easy to digest, but I mentioned multiple times being frustrated that Mewtwo was getting excessively punished for the relatively fringe Scolipede matchup, and stuff was kinda getting punished by Aerodactyl being a bad matchup as well. Like I said, I felt our simple scoring system maintained the relative order of deck strength, but it's something I'd definitely like improved! I was looking for papers on meta analysis and matchup charts, but they kept focusing on winrates of opening hands and not getting quite the info I was looking for. If you have any resources to recommend, please do! Ideally I'd like to set up something in sheets (or whatever we use in the future) to automatically generate a score for each deck as well, to try make it simple on our end haha. Thanks for the comment though, Happy New Year!
I'm kind of perplexed by the choice of not covering either Golem or arcanine, which actually despite not having the highest meta share take some very relevant matchups. Aside from that very nice and detailed video!
@@loganthorne690 Golem was one of those hitmonlee decks built with the intent of crushing the top meta deck gyarados and it does it very well, similarly to how scoli was thought as a mewtwo counter, so i reckon Golem should be included in the list too. Plus being a fighting type gives both pika decks a hard time making it, in my opinion, worth a place in the graph rather than scoli.
I think the arcanine(without Charizard) deck has been decently used definitely more than scolipede. I think its an important deck to include because it has a favorable match up against pikachu.
Personally, I have not seen a lot of Mewtwo's in the "ranked" matches. Mew has been far more common. Celibi has been far and above the most common deck I've come up against, with Gyarados and Charizard being the next two. MI gave amazing tool to antimeta as well, though. I used to run Arcanine Ex and GA Rapidash, but I dropped both of them for the MI Magmar and Rapidash, keeping the GA Ponyta. The only _deck_ it struggles against is a Starmie Ex deck, because of how fast it is, as well. Otherwise, it's fast enough and hits hard enough that that covers for its frailty. Magmar is the GOAT of MI. Nothing else even compares to how good it is
Celebi is not dominating because it's very inconsistent (literally the most inconsistent of the meta decks) and therefore not good in the context of tournaments.
Has Golem not been posting consistent results after it's splash? That was one of the decks I was most excited to try (and the game's been dodging me hard on)
@ haha nah I think Charizard is widely used incorrectly. Arcanine slows you down. Best combo is 2 Moltres EX, 1 Chatot, and all Zard lines. Gio/Sab/leaf/2 xp’s/red card give you control and maximum advantage. 1,849 wins, level 45 free to play account. Not a brag, just saying 😂. Excellent content, maybe the best reporting I’ve seen on the game ✅
Also to tack on, we used info from LimitlessTCG to get matchup info so if you wanna dive into nitty gritty of variants and matchups it's a really smooth site to dive into! In short, though, Moltres decks seem... Almost Okayish to kinda bad. Arcanine has a significantly better spread than Charizard, and it's slightly losing to Mewtwo, losing really hard to Gyarados ofc, picking on grass decks as expected and slightly winning Vs electric variants and Scolipede. I think early into the new set when a lot of people were playing the new grass decks it probably hit it's peak and has been sliding since, so it's pretty hard to recommend, especially as water picks up more steam. Pun intended
