In the US the Project T1 is $450.00, the Rega Planar 1 Plus is $775.00. That's a big difference.

If you're in the US its more worth going for a Fluance turntable. I think this review is more for people who can't afford to ship Fluance models for $250 to their country haha

Another factor worth considering is that all Rega products are made in England, so if you can’t make up your mind, but like the idea of supporting British manufacturing that might be a deciding factor.

Just received a Planar 1 Plus Eco and it sounds fab for the money (£229). For the last 10 years I have really only been listening to streamed music and did a direct comparison between digital and analog with some of my 30+ year old LP's - the difference was mind blowing. I don't think I was hearing how horribly compressed and flat the streamed music sounds. No going back for me. Just need me some better speakers...

@@smarthomesounds well, finally, I am staying with my first choice which is T1 however I will be connecting it with ERA300, but Sonos line out adapter is not available yet, it will be on stock on June, so I need to be patient a lot longer :) anyway, thanks for the comparison video, I am really looking for some entry level device with decent sound quality, this should fit all my expectations. Cheers!

Id definitely go with the Pro-ject. I'm constantly switching between 33 and 45 so suits my needs perfectly. And the switchable phono stage gives more flexibility. Having said that my last Pro-ject TT, the motor went and was very expensive, almost impossible to replace. But as you both say not much between them, it's personal choice. Im currenly running a Pioneer PL51 circa,1975 as my main TT. Im wondering how it would stack up sonically against one of these now! Great reviews guys 👍

Maybe you could address the obvious platter wobble on the Rega Planar 1 - I have a Project 1.2 which had a similar issue...it worsened to the point where the platter would scrape against the plinth. it drove me insane until I took the platter off and replaced it with a very old, very thick, classical LP. Considered buying the Rega but the platter wobble has put me off. Apparently it is not uncommon.

  • @PaulSuquet

At the same price; I'd pick the Rega every day. However, that cartridge it ships with is just a rebadged AT3600. I'd say the Om5e is probably the better cart+stylus of the two, but I'd upgrade that anyway. So remove the price difference factor, and remove the cartridge/stylus difference factor; Rega all the way. But for someone who isn't willing to change anything in favor of performance, or if there's a significant price difference in your locale; Pro-Ject it is.
Note I currently have a bunch of Pro-Ject turntables (incl. a T1), and the Rega RP1 (the Planar 1's predecessor).

Don’t worry, I just ordered a P1 plus ECO. I haven’t owned a record deck for years and never thought I’d be able to own a Rega. Rega being such a high end brand that was unobtainable when I was young. Now I’m 48 and finally getting one. Should sit nice with my Hegel H190 and Chartwell LS3/5

Rega all the way. What did Project compromise on for the auto change from 33.3 to 45 RPM ? When was the last time someone played a 45 RPM on their table ? Changing the belt on capstan on the Rega adds no compromises. I may be biased - pun - as I’ve always used Rega tables . I own a Plannar 3 . Project is a great table , I’m not putting it down. It’s just the lights, and auto speed makes no sense to me . Rega P1 is plug, and play as well.

Why do a comparison if you’re not going to give a winner and there’s always a winner that has the edge no matter how small. All the info can be found on websites so why not let them be heard with different genres of music and allow us that experience instead of listening to textbook info that most people looking to buy would have already read.

I tell you fellas, I am never more envious of British people then when they are talking about hi-fi prices.
Say that those two turntables are six British pounds price difference, well in the good old USA those two turntables roughly have a 300 US dollar price difference, in favor of the project.
So for my money the project is the way to go plus with the speed box you don't have to worry about taking the platter off and switching speed, not to mention the fact that project has better built quality.
Don't get me wrong I personally think that the raga is the better sounding table, however after having owned four different Rega turntables over the last 5 years, I can't really trust anymore that when I buy one it will come out of the box working properly.
During that same time frame I've purchased for and recommended project turntables to friends and family. When they made the purchase I set these turntables up for them as well, and I have to say that none of those projects have ever exhibited the build quality snafus that I've noticed with Rega products.
