As with anything...you can teach fundamentals...rudiments...reading...butcha can't teach feel...time...swing....or when NOT to play. You have a gift Sir....you were born to play.
Thanksgiving Week... I give thanks for Carter McLean's videos on TH-cam. On lunch break, or evening chillin' they put a smile on my face, inspiration in my limbs. and knowledge in my head!
Dang, this drumless album is absolutely FANTASTIC for play-along practice! Super tasty cover, my dude. And thanks so much for introducing me to this, I'll jump onto these tracks ASAP! 👌✌
Carter....I did not know you could play like this.... So smooth,musical,Jazzy... Dynamics, volume control...Playing every Single figure. I love it. Perfect example of how it should be done. I am impressed ( and maybe a little jealous) Tx.J.p.
Mr. McLean! I have to say...I absolutely love your musical approach to playing the drums. It inspires me to think more musically on the drums! Great job, my guy! All the best Oskar
Really cool playing! Another nice duo album is one with Anat Cohen and Fred Hersch - Live in Healdsburg. Some fantastic playing on that - perhaps with room for some drumming too…
Beautiful cymbal work on some beautiful cymbals. I've been practice-playing to this duo of two Masters for a while after hearing their live Talavera jazz performance on TH-cam. Love comping to Billie's Bounce from that performance although they take a while to find a comfortable tempo. Segment (aka Diverse) by Charlie Parker sounds similar to me to the changes of Softly As In A Morning Sunrise. Classic BeBop tune. There is a jaw-dropping version live from 2002 (7/5/22 in Vienna, not to be confused with another performance in Spain '02) performed by drummer and bandleader Roy Haynes with Christian McBride and -- playing the hell out of it -- David Kikoski, Nicholas Payton and Kenny Garrett. More jazz and trio work always welcome.
I just went back again to your cover Jason Isbel’s Only Children and for some reason I thought that it would be so cool to see what you can come up on Adele’s Easy on Me. It’s such a tremendous song with lots of room to explore from a drumming point of view.
I like how after that 1st intro/buzz roll (0:15) you don't hit the 1 at all really, it's just left on it's own while you drift onto that lefthand crashride. Good thinking, sir.
Man, I came back here to figure out how to play around that bass fill at 3:25 . Is it just me or does it feel like the beat flips somewhere around there.
Just noticed you're not on the old Instagram anymore, and I dont blame you. I feel its a platform which has died long ago. People have become blasé in using it properly. I hope you still make content on youtube. You've been a big inspiration to me. Thanks.
You are by far the best “quiet player” I have ever heard.
Thank you ! but Brian Blade owns that room 🏆
@@cartermclean amazing job here as always and odd question, but what kind of hat clutch is that if you don't mind? I really love the look of it.
@@acaldwel its the Cherry Hill Micro clutch
@@calebfudrums tyvm sir
I'd personally say he is tied with Mark Guiliana on his quiet playing.
The skill-level regarding dynamics is something to strive for and look forward to
I could not imagine what it's like to play this subtlety. Incredible stuff.
The sound you get out of that kit... Perfection.
5:24 The drum fill at this section is so cool.
Carter, your touch and flow is sublime. I have followed your playing for several years, and you never disappoint. Thank you
Such a relaxed style with clear articulation!

Amazing , many drummers in Belgium I know admire Carter a lot because of his versatility & sound
That 30th anv. 22 inch ride is really something. So dynamic, great crash, great stick definition. Beautiful playing by the way!
I probably missed the other videos, but Carter swinging. More would be welcome. So good.
That was so smooth I could taste it
Ah man! I could listen to Carter playing all day!!!
Soft & cool jazz, nice and sweet the way I like it. Just 3 players, Drums, Bass, & Piano! Thank Again CM.
So much music in the left foot! I mean it’s there in all of you here, but that left foot is notable - free, supportive, vocal. ❤️
I can listen to you play all day
Such control over the instrument! Perfect tuning and cymbal selection with an absolute master behind the kit!!!! Truly amazing as always sir!

Yeah, man! Tasty! I love "The Art of Conversation" album by Kenny Baron & Dave Hollannd. Great tracks to play too on drums since they are drum-less.

あなたの演奏はいつも凄すぎる!
Keep coming back to this to see how one supposed to play jazz on drums...
this is drumming good job
Beautiful toms at 2:00!!!
If Brian Blade is Batman so Carter is Robin.
Ha ha!

Perfect
I wish there where more people like you who put out jazz content on youtube
there are a lot of videos on here that make me want to jump behind the kit, but none other made me jump behind it so fast :)
The Classic Maples sound amazing...got me thinking about an upgrade...what size bass drum?
Classy

I wanna like it twice - anyone knows how to do it?
14 traditional hats?
🤩🤩
Восхитительно! Какая динамика! А я недавно сел за барабаны после десятилетнего перыва, это было ужасно, весь навык потерян. Один грохот, а не игра.)))
сочно!
