Hi, Remy - I could use some advice. I need to cool my 48 x 18 x 18 terrarium. Due to the greenhouse effect I'm experiencing I need to bring the temp down by about 20 degrees. I have a House of Hydro fogger piped into the side of my terrarium which does cool the terrarium a bit, and I also have an 80mm fan mounted inside the terrarium which helps with air flow and condensation on the glass, but doesn't really contribute any cooling. Adding another fan and blowing warm air all around isn't going to be the answer, so I'm thinking I need some type of water chiller for my fogging container or some type of chiller inside the terrarium. I don't know if a peltier/thermoelectric cooler would do the job or not. The problem with a chiller is that I want the water supply to be automated so I don't have to refill the reservoir of the chiller every day. I have been all over the internet and TH-cam and can't find anyone who has been successful doing this.
Do you have any ideas? Thanks!

I never tried but pelletier cooler could works and I would use it on the fogger water. When the lights goes off, have a fan that suck the hot hair from inside and in the same time the fogger blowing the cold mist, that would maybe work.

@@markf5175 Hello. If you're feeling up to it you can DIY a closed loop system. You can use a small freezer or fridge (fairly cheap used) and cut 2 4" holes in the top, or one on either side. Then just use 4" ducting and something like a PC fan to power the circuit. This way you don't lose as much humidity. Condensation will build up in the fridge or freezer so you'll need to address that periodically. Shouldn't be too bad with your small space. But tbh 20 degrees is a lot, you probably won't reach that goal easily. Is that when the lights are on? Does that mean you're over 100F? My highland room is at 75-80F during the day.

@@ElmoRitter I have the terrarium and the container outside. There are no lights on during the day. I rely on natural sunlight. I'm in Southern California so sunlight is fairly plentiful. Temperature is reading 105° on a regular basis when the sun is out, for about two hours, due to the position of the sun on the terrarium and the inherent greenhouse effect. That's just too hot for the plants. I am concerned that the temperature will get even higher during the summertime. I would like to be able to mount the peltier cooler on the outside of the 5 gallon container. I am just not sure if the peltier cooler will cool the container enough,, as was your concern. I would like to have this automated as much as possible - I really don't want to have to put frozen water bottles in the container manually each day. Thank you for your help and comments.

Hey, Remi. I just bit the damn bullet and bought all the grow tenty stuff (mostly because my local nepenthes suppliers are not selling anything for months now, haha). I got a misting system, extraction fan, and all those knick knacks. I just wanted to share because I don't really have any nepenthes addicts as friends :) Really excited for this project since my current setup is some diy mini-tent on a table top. Now I don't have to worry about the Nepenthes vining out of my setup, if all goes well.

@WindowsillNepenthes Haha, now that think of it, this seems to be my Christmas present.
I should be able to get it up and running in a couple days once all the parts are delivered, will try to update!

@@WindowsillNepenthes Quick update by the way.
I ditched the inline fan and the misting system. I made a diy fogger and it's connected to a hygrometer; which is working flawlessly maintaining 80% humidity (probably my best diy to date, tbh).
I have a 300w light, which is absolutely overkill but it has a dimmer knob so it's ok.
For now, the tent doesn't seem to be overheating. I just have to adjust the light levels and I think I'm set for the rest of my plant journey!

Next step is a water chiller a/c system so you don't lose any humidity and can reach 10C at night :) Bit of a DIY project but it's fun!

i am just setting up my 4x4 feet grow tent now, awesome timing 🙂. The toughest thing for me is the cooling and how to fit the air conditioner in (with heat exhaust/draining outside) since I live in a lowland climate and grow some intermediate species

    • @WindowsillNepenthes

Hi Remy! Maybe you can help out! I heard that Growtents are not 100% waterproof at the Bottom. Is that true? I mean can you confirm that? I am asking because i want to buy one in the future and i do not want to ruin my Floor.🤔

Hi Remy, I am just curious since you frequently talk about maximizing space why you don't bridge across the shelves at the back to make a U shape of shelves inside? You should still be able to reach everything from the shortened center isle.
