Somewhere in the video, there is a Muslim call to prayer. This video was probably shot in Ilorin, Nigeria, first of all, where Islam was and still is widely embraced by the Yoruba and non-Yoruba people that live there. Notherners settled in Ilorin and took over the monarchy of the area [I will address why later], and since most of them were Muslims, it was only natural that the number of the devotees of the religion constantly increased.
Many of the people, as at the year 1960, had embraced the religions that were introduced. However, a huge number of them did not let go of their traditional spiritual practices, at least not completely.

Great video., but I have a question, where can we see the authoritative written version of the Odù Ifá. Here in the Caribbean we only get bits and pieces, in the Atlantic Slave Trade a lot of it was hidden, and lost and what remains comes from sources like the Diloggúnm "Cowrie-shell divination is found in Latin America where it plays an important role in religions like Santería and Candomblé.
-In Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, it is called dilogun.[
    -
In Brazil, it is called merindinlogun.
Though they share a common root, Caribbean and South American cowrie shell divination have subsequently developed in independence from West African practice. For example, among Caribbean diviners, the first throw of the shells involves throwing them twice to derive a composite Odu., en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowrie-shell_divination
But where can we find the authoritative text of the Odù Ifá?? What we were living for 500 years was a separation from authoritative sources...

OX I don't claim to be an expert on Ifa, as I'm not even initiated. However, from what I've studied, it seems that Babalawos have to memorize an enormous amount of text. Each separate reading may have many potential texts, and it's up to the Babalawo to properly decide which text is appropriate. There are several books about Odu Ifa. I've come across two in public libraries. This link shows what's available on Amazon. Of course you would have to decide whether or not you feel the author has relevant information. Some authors aren't Yoruba by birth, but they sometimes collaborate on a book with a Yoruba Babalawo or scholar.

@@jimthom1956 Thanks a lot Jim, i will certainly look into your reference. i really appreciate it. I really think it is logical and necessary to standardize the Odu Ifa The question is what body will standardize it, and have ti written down, recorded and widely available. You can recall from history Constantine ha the Council of Nicea where they standardized the books of the Bible, and decided what books ade it in , wnd what books were apocryphal. Even with the Arabs, the third Caliph Uthman ibn Affan standardized the Quran after he saw variance in the text as the religion spread out of the Arabian peninsula, and ordered all other versions of the Quran destroyed. History has taught us that we cannot trust the Odu Ifa to people's memory whether in Yorubaland or in the African Diaspora, the last time we tried that we saw how badly that went.
I say we do what our ancestors did not do, and what the jews did with their Torah, Arabs with their Quran, Indians did with their Vedas and Christians did with their bible and write it all down, using new technology like the Ethereum block chain, as it becomes indestructible and any changes will be detected. But the big question is standardizing and writing it down, should we expect the lead to come out of West Africa or the Diaspora? The one thing i do know, is that the Ifa Canon will come about in this era by the group that writes it down holistically, concisely and in a format that is easily distributed and understood. Cheers and thanks.
