    Notes:
Oh man, I love that flame effect around Micaiah that I made. I didn’t originally intend to go through with it when I started the animation, but I started testing it out, and realized that yes, I could make it work. I’m super pleased with how it came out, even if it’s a super inefficient way to render because it’s so heavy on processing power. I’m sure there’s a more efficient way to do it, but whatever, it’s cool this way.
It’s supposed to look like the ghostly glow that emblems have around them in Engage, and I think it actually replicates that effect decently well. It’s not exactly like it (I think it could use a harsher outline) but it’s still decent. It can be a bit visually distracting, especially when she’s holding Alear, meaning Alear is actually inside of the glowy effect, but I still think it came out well enough.
I’m also super pleased with how well Micaiah’s animation came out. Because she’s a ghost and can fly, I got to do a lot of fun stuff with her idle stance, and I love how she bobs up and down slightly, which really sells that she’s floating. Some of her motion how she balances out her weight as she moves does a good job of selling the effect too. The way she crouches down when she picks up Alear is neat too, as normally a character would have to push themselves off the ground, but it’s natural for Micaiah to do it because she’s flying. The way she spawns in is super neat too. She has a nice springy effect where she tenses a bit before unfolding and opening up. Fun fact, I actually reuse that sequence for when she grows herself back to normal size.
As much as I like Micaiah’s animation, I can’t say the same thing for Alear. She has some cool parts such as the way she activates the ring, or how she smashes the staff, but her animation feels pretty cheap and boring most of the time, with really basic actions that aren’t very visually interesting. One other problem that I can think of with Alear specifically is that because her hair is so big and vibrant, when looking at her from the back she just kind of turns into a visual mess of red and blue, and you can’t really tell what’s going on.
Another interesting thing is that this animation is really long. Aside from Emblem Shrink, which was a weird one, this is my longest shrinking animation so far, partially just because it takes so long to actually get to the shrinking part. Like 35 seconds in fact, which is quite a while. I still think it does a good job of building anticipation, but it is quite a long time to wait.
I’m not sure how I feel about making animations for Engage. One one hand the world is so messy that I can make a bunch of jokes about the logic, and it doesn’t matter if I play with the cannon a bit, but on the other, the world and characters are just inherently less interesting than the games I usually make content for. It’s kind of the opposite problem I have with writing for Xenoblade 3, where that game is so grounded in its world that it’s really hard to work my stuff into it, but I love the game and the characters so much that I’ll try really hard to. Idk, just something to think about.
For the first time I actually am somewhat pleased with the camerawork in this one. I’ve got a few cool shots like how Alear activates the ring looking dead on at the camera, or how it cuts over Alear’s shoulder to watch Micaiah spawn in. At first it was a super jittery cut that looked awful, but I managed to find a way to get it to still connect with the rest of the scene. It probably helped that I planned out a few of the shots beforehand. I’ll probably try to do that more often in the future.

@@ultraexcalibur1728 Yeah, sorry. But when I only have so much free time, I'd rather make something that I enjoy making. I'm still interested in bringing them back if I can think of a fun idea for one, but it's been like a year and that hasn't happened, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

@@lightswitchclash I know but maybe you could flatten a character like Asuna or Ochako.

No. I have no clue who those characters are, and even if they did, I can't think of anything that would be fun or interesting to do with them.
