    Heads up from everyone in the guinea pig community. Keeping guinea pigs outdoors isn’t okay - they’re indoor pets and are actually cleaner then dogs, cats and many other traditional pets. Since you’re so tech advanced I expected you to actually research the care of guinea pigs before requesting any housing changes.

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for the tip girl! We don't actually have them inside but we do have them out on our back patio which is fully shaded in a cage thats on a stand. During the day if its hot we will put a sheet over the cage to protect them from the heat and even pop the outdoor ceiling fan on if its particularly hot. Do you reckon that's okay? I feel like its pretty similar to having them indoors. You'd think they would be alright outside because they're so similar to bunnies which obviously run wild.

    • @reigirl100
      @reigirl100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@AshJackson no they get heat stroke way to easily. You need to have them in a air controlled environment. They’re not actually wild guinea piggies they’re a different domesticated breed and do not have the ability to keep themselves cool. If anything what you’re doing right now will lower they’re life span as a whole, plus with the added danger of being exposed to possible spiders as well. I suggest doing a deep dive into the TH-cam guinea pig community to learn more about the proper care for guinea pigs. La guinea pig rescue is a great one, so is little adventures. There’s a ton of resources that are easily accessible.

    I loved your episode! I loved the whole thing! You’re both amazing women. I just wish Heidi was allowed to do less classes and do something else. She still gets confidence from dance and maybe do basketball too?

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thanks lovely! Heidi has actually tried a number of different sports, basketball wasn't one of them but she did try netball and decided that it wasn't for her. She explained that she likes playing on the weekends and in her spare time with her family- but not in a competitive arena. Watching the episode, she was quite upset about the way she and her dance school were portrayed as she truly loves dancing. Heidi is a very quiet, sweet girl and often tells people what she thinks they want to hear in order to exit an awkward situation which, after a few long discussions, we figured out had happened during filming as the producers were asking a lot of different questions to sway her in the direction that suited the storyline. Unfortunate, but it comes with the territory of going on a reality TV show.

    Side note - bacterial biomes are also incredibly healthy for humans -
    Shifting that dramatically can cause a lot of issues. Once again research is crucial - you don’t need a ton of harsh chemicals to maintain a healthy home. Key word is healthy all her children looked incredibly healthy, they didn’t have acne or skin problems nor did they look sickly. Being tech obsessed doesn’t always mean it’s the right way. The bad part of the internet is being exposed to not only good information but also a ton of mis information, learning how to use it correctly is incredibly important. Humans are meant to live in harmony with their environment not completely wreck it.

But we also had a chance being kids and that what was great. While it’s helped Heidi to come along way she also needs to have fun and live a life as a kid. Also remember that Heidi was only 7 at the time and had done a long day of filming and was being questioned by a crew of people who she didn’t know. I'd say it's not as big of a deal as it seems. Under normal circumstances, yes, but under the rules of a show that you're on (that you've signed that you'll cooperate with), I think it's okay. Especially when you think of how she was okay with her children being filmed and put onto tv. There's not a big difference.

    • @AshJackson

      To be clear- The producers created the channel, edited the videos and uploaded them to the channel. Also, Gav, the children’s father (who also has a say in his children’s lives) gave permission for the videos to be uploaded to the channel (which was also a private channel). Even though I watched this a long time ago it still haunts me that the daughter was scared to speak her truth, obviously when she did she was ignored. Even when the husband cried as he knew she was unhappy they still make her go to dancing. How can they not see that the daughter is unhappy regardless of what the daughter says to please them, it’s written all over her face. The dad must care to cry about it but the mother rules this and clearly doesn’t put her kids needs first. I’d be surprised if they have a healthy relationship when she’s older, but I don’t think the mother would care about this as long as she is famous!

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm sorry you feel haunted enough to come back and express this... Obviously there is little I can do because any explanation is going to sound like an excuse. Rather, I'd just like you to take the time to consider that what you've watched is reality TV and while you've commented on my Q&A with Janine I implore you to watch this one, as well as part 2. It explains a lot about the way that the show works and what is done to show a particular storyline. If what you've seen (or think you've seen) truly "haunts" you, then take the time to consider the other side of the story- for your own peace of mind. You *might* find that what you believe to have happened, could not be further from the truth and maybe that will make you feel better. Two other points that I want to quickly clear up: 1. James has alopecia and because of this- he has no eyebrows. What you saw and thought was a man wiping away tears was actually a man sweeping stinging sweat out of his eyes because he doesnt have eyebrows or eyelashes to protect them. There were no tears there- James could not care less about dancing. 2. "the mother would care about this as long as she is famous!" literally wtf are you on about? I have 100,000 subs on youtube and haven't posted in like 8 months- thats FAR from famous and if it were my goal, do you think I would have been posting? I could not give a damn about a public profile. I started creating content because it's a creative outlet. Believe it or not I don't enjoy randoms on the internet criticising me for no reason. Chill out and peace out.

    Please don't take the rude comments personally.. I think most people just watch the show & get emotional from it. They don't think about the element of drama the producer wanted to create for the show, etc.. Same like Hotel Hell, Kitchen Nightmares, but that what the producers want for their viewers to get emotionally invested by creating some overdramatic scenes..😂

    • @AshJackson

      “Off-Grid” I believe was a word used by the show and not the family (I could be wrong about this though so please feel free to correct me if I am). They weren’t off grid as they did not have solar or run off a generator. From memory I think they used tank water though.

      @AshJackson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@truckinfrog You’re right, all of those things were run from electricity. I believe the show used phrases like “off grid” and “internet obsessed” to try and highlight/magnify our differences when really, we were actually quite similar. Having said that, I still learned a tonne of really valuable lessons and information during my stay at the Hagar farm so there were a lot of differences too, but we definitely weren’t the dramatised versions of ourselves that were portrayed on the show. Upon reflection, I feel that they do that to create a storyline where two very different people find an understanding and appreciation for each other’s lifestyles to encourage viewers at home to be more open minded and try new things and that’s something I’m proud to be apart of.

    • @Elizajane88
      @Elizajane88 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the show would have exaggerated each families situation. From my perspective as a viewer the Hagar family wasn’t “off grid”, they are farmers living in rural Australia. They obviously have electricity and necessary technology to live a comfortable life and assist with their business. The Hagar family kids likely didn’t have smartphones or a social media profile, they knew what TH-cam was but weren’t aware of its potential and what Ash did with it. They’re not “off the grid” they’re living a life that includes technology and internet as a means of necessity, not for leisure or form of income. I imagine they would have had a TV, but not Apple TV. They would have had phones, but not the latest iPhone or Android etc

    Making your daughter doing dance when she clearly doesn’t want to is disgusting

      But living remotely and depriving your children of technology while having the wrong opinion about immune systems and forcing that on your children.. That's totally cool huh..

      Mate, this is an EDITED tv show. The producers will take clips and responses then cut and insert them in an entirely different context to fit their narrative of the storyline.

    So did you actually keep her in 8 dance classes ??

    • @AshJackson
      @AshJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure did. We discussed it after the show and I gave Heidi the option to reduce some of her classes, asking her which ones she doesn't want to do anymore. I think thats when she realised she didn't want to give up any of the classes and perhaps when she talked about giving up her dance, she was thinking that it would mean that she could stop filming and go home- not that she would never be able to do her favourite activity ever again.

    The most vain, vaccuous woman and equally her husband , ever. Selling her kids online. Its awful and you came across as a me me me look at me person. Just enjoy your family and move on

      Wooooooooahhhhhh Judy! That comment was HECTIC! Are you sure this is the kind of person you want to be? The kind of person who would say such a vile thing to a person they don’t know? Imagine for a second, that maybe I received a poor edit and that my intentions and parenting skills are nothing like what was portrayed on the show. Wouldn’t you feel like a bit of a dick for not considering the other side of the story? That’s what I teach my children at least. My main hope for them in life as that they can grow into people who choose kindness, open their hearts and minds and be considerate to others. I would be mortified if I ever found them spreading hate over the internet. Shame girlfran, shaaaaame. I hope your kids don’t ever see this #yikes 😳

      @@AshJackson no. It wasn’t HECTIC, it was honest. It’s how it’s comes across and yes, if it was edited badly, then I’d have to apologise. Somehow I don’t think that the case. No little girl needs 7 ballet classes a week. .good grief

      @@judylambden6850 again, you’ve said “somehow I don’t think that’s the case” regarding my ability to parent and me as a human being but reality is that you don’t know for sure- so why attack? You just assume that is who I am and I would NEVER dare to assume like that. And dude- it WAS hectic. You called me the MOST vain and vacuous woman. That is QUIIIIITE an assumption. I think you need a shower and a cuppa to cool down a bit. Maybe spend the week of International Women’s Day lifting women up instead of tearing them down?

      @@AshJackson I am entitled to make comment on what was shown. The fact is you sell your lives, and that of you kids, to be a famous vlogger. Poor kids. Kids being marketed to others. I stand by the rest. You do come across as vain and vacuous
