Maybe Don't Buy A Fox Dropper Post?

- After some issues with my relatively new Fox Transfer dropper post, I started to question if I'd ever be buying another Fox dropper post again...
That said, I'm 100% going to try and service this dropper myself... Fox's estimate for a service is $135 for their dropper.
I think the clear pick for me will be a PNW dropper post. In my opinion, it has better features, a better warranty, is self-serviceable, and supports a smaller business.

I had a 2019 transfer list and used it for probably 8000 miles before it wore out (I literally never serviced it). I replaced it with a 2022 one, and I got only a couple hundred miles from it. Whenever I have sent anything back to Fox for services (forks and shocks), it has taken months to have the product returned. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's unimpressed with their newer products.
@@williamdowling5833 Good to hear I’m not crazy, haha.
The 1 year warranty was kind of insane to me. For such a highly spoken of and “top tier” product I would believe they’d have more faith than just 1 year of non-defective use of their own product.
PNW with lifetime warranty is what I’m looking for. My Santa Cruz has a PNW and I guess my Stumpjumper will be getting one too at some point.
I have a Fox Transfer with kashima coating I’ve been running since 5/2017. Also I’ve never serviced mine either and it still works great. It has a crazy amount of miles on it as well. The Kashima coating has chipped off in a few spots but the dropper still works.
Meanwhile I was planning on grabbing another one but I’ll have to do my research now….
That's strange. I've sent 2 forks in for service and both were handled quickly.
good production value for the channel size! Thanks for the insights!
@@jonahking5566 Thank you! It means a lot to me hearing that.
Glad I could provide some useful information.
I had a transfer, got a replacement and then again a replacement (which I then immediately sold).
They just don't work below 15°C. A friend had the same issue.
Just get OneUp, it is serviceable and does not use fancy gasses, just air.
@@Oshimani man… what’s going on at Fox…I’d be interested to see how they’ve changed the 2025 Transfer model, but not enough to purchase one outright…
Good to know about your V3 experience! I think I’ll be putting on of those on my Stumpjumper.
@@BK_BT I got the V2, twice actually. 210 and 240mm for my bikes
@@Oshimani Very nice! 240mm is huge! Haha
I’ll need to see which one is a good fit for my Stumpy.
I got one up v3 outstanding option
@@brianhorst5583 That’s good to hear! Maybe what I’ll do is get the V3 for my Stumpjumper so I can then stay I’ve tried PNW, Fox and One Up.
I got 210mm on S3 Levo
In the UK, I've yet to break a Brand X. I'm running 2 and if you're careful with the torque on the seatclamp (just use a torque wrench) then, for me, they run perfectly. No dramas.
@@andrewblakesley4202 I forget, what’s their equivalent here in the states. TranzX?
My fox dropper stopped working too. I bought two new droppers from oneup. I won't buy another.
Ks dropper posts are also really nice if you can afford a Lev Ci or similar
@@Hydun I’ve never looked into the KS stuff. I’ll be sure to check them out now that you mentioned it. I believe they made the first dropper posts, the old saddle lever ones.
I have a LEV Integra from 2015, had to bleed it once but otherwise no problems, and another 2021 Integra with zero service on it, still working fine.
Ive owned 3 transfers and they all stoped working properly early on. Ill never buy another. Ive had great luck with bike yoke (revive), one up v3 and sram axs.
@@jdmbeaner182 thanks for the feedback! I’ll be looking into the V3 too.
I want to look at Bike Yoke too. Maybe if I do a whole dropper series of videos.
I have 125mm pnw loam and honestly not impressed with the quality, it is literally rebranded tranzx, with a year of usage it has developed lots of side to side and front to back play and at some point cartridge got about a 5mm sag and then somehow it disappeared untill a new cartridge has arrived, I send a warranty claim and got a free cartridge out of it but had to pay 30bucks for 6 small brass dimples... Customer support is really amazing but not impressed with the product, there are also wear marks on the station since about 12 months of usage with regular services and had home made protection from an piece of tube in the winter months on it...
@@aleksarajkovic3471 thanks for sharing that! It important we learn about all these products and their flaws from companies.
I have the cheaper post on my Santa Cruz Chameleon now.
I think I’ll buy a Loam for the Ragley. Then a One Up V3 for my Stumpjumper hanging in the wall.
My old stumpy had a TranzX, and while it didn’t look amazing or flashy it did function great.
The X-Fusion Manic on my stumpy now is literal trash, it has almost caused multiple crashes. Their customer support is non-existent.
I think it will be good to compare all those 3 options (PNW, OneUp, Fox). Maybe down the road I’ll look into the less common like Bike Yoke, Wolf Tooth, Turnon (This one has me really interested, it has a unique air purge dual chamber system that’s self bleeding like Wolf Tooth’s.)
@BK_BT i heard good things about bike yoke and one up, while most factory droppers are garbage, such as xfusion, cube etc. Currently I have 150mm fox transfer SL, got the kashima 2025 model for cheap, guy removed it from a new gravel bike and sold it for 160e lol😂 couldn't pass that opportunity to try it out
