Seasonably Hot & Dry Weather for Texas; Watching the Gulf for more Tropical Mischief

- The weather in Texas is expected to stay hot and dry for the next week, with daytime temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Some areas may even reach 100 degrees. Although nights will be pleasant, the lack of rain could lead to a flash drought. There's a risk of grass fires due to the above-average temperatures and dry conditions. The only significant weather system in the region will be a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico early next week. While the details are uncertain, it seems likely that the system will move east of Texas toward Louisiana and Florida. Residents in those areas should keep an eye on the forecast as we get closer to the weekend and next week.

I’d be happy with a cold front at this point. A dry mild October like 2022 would be way better than this august like October. Houston could get 20 days straight of 90+ for October 2024. Not at all what I wanted for what should by my fav weather month.

It actually wouldn't hurt anything if we did get some rain (around the Houston area) because it's been kind of dry lately. Of course I'm not talking flood level lol, but just some normal rain.

This drought is going to last the rest of this year. I expect it will rain one or two days out of the month in Houston over the next three months. I think SE Texas will be in a drought most of 2025. The jet stream never, ever, makes it this far south. If it rains, we get three inches of rain in a day, then it doesn't rain again for three to five weeks.
You have GOT to be a fellow pilot! I’ve never heard anybody but a pilot use the term “severe clear”. Not many pilots know that term anymore but I do my part by trying to teach my flight students to say, “severe clear”.
