The hardest things that I had to overcome were problems that came along with being poor. It is VERY difficult to break free from the class system you are born into... No matter black or white. IMHO, as long as we continue to label everyone in, what I view as a racist way, racism will continue, or it helps it continue. Regardless, using the labeling used today, Asian American, African American, Black American, White American, etc. we are all American and if we can at least achieve that level of understanding, we can say we took one positive step forward. As long as we allow the racist hustlers continue or at least be the loudest voices, we will not be able to stop out of this mud we continually find ourselves in. Improve cultural upbringing, everyone start treating each other with respect and without prodigiousness, we can completely step out. I am in no way saying we leave the good part of our heritage, let's all learn from each other and embrace the good we all can bring.

      It started in the 80's - surveys started tracking races/demographics in different ways for target marketing. There was also a movement among Black Americans that because they didn't necessarily know their country of origin - unlike Greek, Polish, and French Americans for ex - that they needed to take pride in being from Africa - and that led to changing naming conventions to "sound less white/less American" - to bring in textiles/patterns/styles from Africa, etc. I understood the value of layering in an understanding cultural history, etc. but over time, it became something else - more of US vs. Them and them is bad/evil 100% of the time even when you can't name anything that has been done to you personally....and it's led to alot of OUTWARD anger instead of self-directed/self-motivated efforts to build individual legacies they can take pride in....speaking/writing/reading English fluently suddenly meant you were trying to "sound White/Be White" etc. and suddenly we went from being a literate country to having RECORD LOW literacy rates in the black community - even lower for black males - which then leads to underdevelopment intellectually, more likely to be emotionally manipulated bc they can't research/verify anything on their own - and commit more crimes bc they are not equipped to be employed or knowledgeable enough to learn how o to start/run a business. Then they have kids they can't/won't take care of and the cycle of poverty/poor education outcomes continues.

    I love watching and reading Thomas Sowell, he is calm, clear, and right on point. I appreciate your commentary on the interview. That last statement as the interview closed was genius.
    There is another black economist that you will appreciate, Walter E Williams. He was also an economist and professor at George Mason University. He had the secret of how not to be poor. Graduate from high school, get a job, and get married before you have kids.

    Check out Anthony Johnson, first legal slave owner in the colonies. He went to court to fight to be able to keep indentured servants from Africa beyond their indentured time simply because when they were purchased for indentured service, they were already life long slaves in Africa. Because of Anthony Johnson, black people in the colonies were separated from the standard. Black people from then on who were purchased were life long slaves. Everyone else kept their indentured time.

    There are videos on YT of some African Americans who "returned home" to Africa to live or visit to find that they were rejected. The Africans considered them to be Americans (albeit black but still Americans) not African by any measure. It's about where YOU were born not where your ancestors came from (you don't find Irish American, German American, or Italian American listed as choices on forms) and don't forget Elon Musk is African American because he was born in Africa and is a naturalized American citizen. In fact, black, white, red, and yellow are crayon colors whereas human beings are like customized paint colors with a mix of several shades, tints, and tones mixed for one-of-a-kind personalization (like fingerprints - no two are alike except for some identical twins) ...

    Mr Sowell is amazing! I’m a white(only mention for the content of my comment) 48 man that was a disaster as a kid. My mother took off when I was 6 My dad was more interested in hooking up than raising me so I was adopted by a two parent black family who had their shit together. My Foster grandfather used to make us watch Mr. Sowell videos when they were on pbs, there’s one in the 70s I think where he is dismantling the typical feminist and other social clams. It was in such contrast to what we were learning in school. Mr. Sowell is one of the most respected Geographical historians as well as economist. He wrote quite a few books, but talk about slavery and its history. Sad he’s nearing the end of his life, but I recently heard him speak and for 90 year old he’s sharp as a tack

  • @AKJACKAL99709
    @AKJACKAL99709 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Language evolves and changes, but not always for the better. Even the terminology used to describe language changes. In the 70's you heard terms like "jive talkin'" in reference to how black folks talked. In the 80s-90s timeframe you heard the term "Ebonics" a lot, and it became something you could learn about in college. That was harmful because it implied that black people didn't just have different accents or slang, but were almost speaking a different language entirely. Ironically, Ebonics was not nearly as harmful to our language as Twitter would be.
    Then you look at certain civil rights movements over time that told folks to preserve "black culture", but like Dr. Sowell points out it was really keeping black folks down in the old southern culture. Dr. Sowell basically tells us that people like Al Sharpton benefit from this, because if black people were to rise above those old ways then racism could eventually be reduced to nearly inconsequential and he could no longer profit from it. I used to be so confused about why a black man was a sellout or uncle tom, just because he got educated and had a career. With language, I used to hear black men that got angry if they heard another black man speak "like he white."
    No one should be told to forget where they came from or how they grew up. However, I believe that anyone that sees you as less black if you don't stay in the ghetto, or talk black, are oppressing you more than any white man at that point. Rather than let you make choices and take actions to improve your life, they want you to wait for them to convince the world to just give it all to you. Were it just old, fat, white politicians doing it then that would be bad enough. When it is supposed black leaders contributing to it, it is sickening.
    GREAT REACTION. Keep up the great work.

      Blaming the industry for pushing what people want is asinine, nobody forces people to adopt the culture, no one forced black people go listen to gangster rap or even emulate the ideas, in fact gangster culture preceded the music that was "pushed" by the industry. The music industry at the end of the day is a business first so they only promote and sells what people will pay for any excuse to remove accountability from the consumer is childish and only perpetuates victimhood mentality.

    • @Sumoniggro
      @Sumoniggro 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know who started it but i always viewed it as a tool for mental subjugation and linguistically cause disharmony. If Americans who are black call themselves African Americans they never truly feel American causing them to feel like an outside group, constantly being reminded that they are different. People often forget how powerful language can actually be and the subtle and subliminal shifts in thoughts that words cause. Irish and Italians were both not considered white when they first came to the US so their children were called irish-american or Italian -american instead of just Americans to show that they were the other, so as long as Americans who are black don't stand on being Americans first there will always be a disunity.

  • @DaisyChain3339.

    I don't know about Africans, but in Europe they think Americans are dumb for example when they call themselves 'Irish Americans' or Europeans. Ireland is a country and Europe is a continent, these aren't races, and they weren't born in those places.

      Irish is a country as well as an ethnic group, like English, Scottish and Welsh, so to put your ethnicity and your nationality together with a hyphen is something that actually makes sense, but African American is literally an insult considering some white Americans' families have less history in this country than black Americans so for them to be called Americans while blacks get African as a hyphen is disgraceful.
