The 2 sajdas for the prostration of forgetfulness is done for one of three reasons: 1. You forgot something that is a Waajib accidentally (for example you didn't sit after the second rakat & just stood up). (Note: there's is no sajda sahu for a Sunnah. Also, if you forgot a Rukun, you must go back and do that rukun because there's no sajda sahu for it). 2. When you add something that you should not have added, such as an extra ruku, sujud, or rakat (for example 2 rukus per rakah, or 3 sajdas per rakah, or standing up after the 4th and final rakat & completing an additional 5th rakah on accident). 3. When you're confused about how many rakat you have prayed. If you are totally unsure, or very uncertain, you pray based upon the lower of the two, continue to pray as if you're at that point, then add sajda sahu. However if you think about it and you are fairly confident which rakat you are in, you go with it and ignore the minor doubt. Note: there are different madhab opinions on this so if you want to follow a specific one, follow scholars of that madhab (this is one opinion of many on the the prostration of forgetfulness). In Shaykh YQ's opinion: ✅ If you are confused, or if you have forgotten something Waajib, sajda is done before the tasleem. In both of these situations, you will continue to the end, you are sitting for the tahiyya, then before you finish the prayer you will say Allahu Akbar & do 2 sajdas immediately, you will NOT repeat the tahiyya & salat upon RasulAllaah, sws. You'll then just do tasleem. Listen more at 5:07 of the video. ✅ When you add something accidentally to the prayer, do the 2 sajdas of sahu after the tasleem. The main point is to remember when one of these three situation arise; whether you do sajda sahu before or after the tasleem is where the difference of opinion arise & inshaAllaah it'll be accepted by Allah swt. Allah swt knows best. 💚

@yasirqadhi In an al Maghreb talk being given by you in Birmingham UK, almost 15 years ago now, you specifically said we don't always have to sit after the two rakahs (in a 3/4 rakah Salah) and we can switch it up - sometimes we sit and sometimes we don't. The reason given was to keep the Salah 'fresh' and avoid monotonous salahs. I remember this so vividly so since then I have been switching it up, sometimes sitting after 2 and sometimes not. But now you're saying every time I didn't sit intentionally, all those prayers were invalid😮. I'm so depressed right now - how can the same person say two opposing things. What happened to all those Salahs???
Don’t be depressed, your intentions were pure inshallah Allah will accept them. And if he said so then there must be an opinion that validates it. Salam
So when we forgot a tashahud after the second raka sadjda al sahu is sufficient, but when we forget the ruku we must go back because sadjda al sahu can’t make it up.? This is confusing, we need a lot of various examples of mistakes to know what to do to repare them.
What if you are praying maghrib and you stand up for the 4th rakat and you realize it once you did the rukuu what is one supposed to do? Like one time Instead of sitting the 3rd raka I stood up for the 4th rakat and I realized I added extra rakat and I just finished it (did the prostration) and just before tasleem I did 2 prostration is that acceptable?
