@@jeffelijahelias785 Journey released some live footage in Japan not too long ago and I thought Arnel sounded great! But on the R&R Hall of Fame, he was terrible! Thinking maybe Journey burns out all their singer. Steve Augeri - same thing!
Jeff is a crazy amazing singer and has a fatter sound than Perry but he's still great and maybe it was a little hard for him due to the high ranges but he still did a good job. Neil prob was so used to Steve's voice coming out of those monitors that he just had to have Steve 2.0. Arnel is good but a little too forceful, imo. Soto actually has a deeper range than Perry so he has to push harder to get those really high notes but what he did with Malmsteen was amazing.
I have loved Steve Perry and Journey since first seeing them in a live concert on television back in the 70s when Steve had just joined. Not sure if it was on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert or the Midnight Special or maybe even PBS. Been a minute. Loved them ever since and at one point owned everything Journey had ever released, even back to their pre-Steve Perry prog-rock days when Gregg Rollie was their keyboardist and lead singer as well. But when Steve Perry left the fold for good I struggled with the idea of a Steve Perry-less Journey. Most long-time fans have struggled with the uncertainty, not just me. Was not Steve Augeri's biggest fan although I liked the non-Steve Perry-penned songs he sang. But he was not Steve. Really, who else could be. I begrudgingly gave Arnel a fair listen on their live from Manila video. He did a pretty spot-on Steve Perry albeit with a slight accent. I had heard rumors that Jeff Scott Soto had stepped into Steve Perry's shoes. Loved Jeff when he sang with Yngwie Malmsteen. Had not heard him with Journey. Jeff has a great voice and I love how he sings this song, but it was immediately apparent they had to bring the song down a few steps into JSS's far more baritone vocal range than the high tenor range favored by Steve Perry. This is a great version of the song. Love Jeff's vocals and great stage presence but Journey songs are known for vocally heading into the upper stratosphere register-wise and this? Definitely did not go there. At least Arnel gets up into Perry's upper tenor registers. Jeff might have been a good fit as far as stage presence but he would continue to alter the classic Journey sound, just because his voice is noticeably deeper than Steve Perry's. That would be both good and less awesome. JSS does not try to sound like Steve Perry. Kudos for that. Can't be Steve so just had to be himself. But bringing Jeff aboard permanently would require alternate tuning on every Journey song and it would be a little weird never hearing another soaring falsetto Journey song ever again. Just my two cents.
Had they stuck with Soto and recorded new material, they would have been back on the map. He was GREAT! Can't believe they ousted him and took on Pineda.
He doesn't fit with journey, and he only last for 9 months cause journey received a bad reviews with jss. He can't connect connect with the audience! It looks boring. I still love Steve Perry and arnel pineda.
Let's admit that when he was with journey he cant give the voice that journey wanted. He was struggling that time and journey can't wait for his voice redemption...

@@jeffelijahelias785 they did a live in Japan DVD in 2017. I still prefer Jeff though!
I think he was the best singer they’ve had since Steve perry. He was the first and only not to sound like a clone
Love Deen's drumming!
and his singing!
Just my two cents.
toddvandell85 Deen Castronovo can sing like Steve Perry. He’s much better than Arnel.
Had they stuck with Soto and recorded new material, they would have been back on the map. He was GREAT! Can't believe they ousted him and took on Pineda.
knox2613 ur right. Neil and Jonathon were jelouse
knox2613 they were on the map with Arnal
no not on map with Arnal he can sing but most people still dont know of him
It's correct !
He doesn't fit with journey, and he only last for 9 months cause journey received a bad reviews with jss. He can't connect connect with the audience! It looks boring. I still love Steve Perry and arnel pineda.
What hell were you thinking, Journey?
jeff the best
Linda música , very good
Let's admit that when he was with journey he cant give the voice that journey wanted. He was struggling that time and journey can't wait for his voice redemption...
I really dig that they are playiong without wireless systems...cord straight to the amp.
More like: cord straight to amp with a rack of outboard effects.
those were the days my friend we thought they would never end
