Funds start at 2:32. Preliminary discussion before that is more for beginners who may not know what the S&P 500 Index is or how to invest in an index in general.
Do you invest in the S&P 500? If so, what's your ETF of choice?

I'm thinking of going for IVV because I could set up automatic investments into it through Fidelity, whereas Vanguard doesn't offer automatic investing into ETFs to my knowledge. Do you have any thoughts on that difference?

This will depend on the broker, not the ETF. If Fidelity offers auto investing, you could use it with VOO, for example.

Great video! Thanks for the tax loss harvesting tip to avoid wash 🧼 sale by alternating VOO and IVV. Perhaps you approve of similar with VTI and ITOT, and VXUS and IXUS.

Thanks, Jeffrey! Definitely! Videos on VTI vs. ITOT and VXUS vs. IXUS coming soon.

How does this work? I've heard of this, but it's never explained how to actually do it

I have IVV, is IVV good for holding for 20 years

IVV is nearly identical to VOO in performance, the same expense ratio, and slightly higher volume due to it being around longer than VOO.

In the current market condition, just buy 1 share and DCA every 5~ 10 % drop. That's what I do.

I agree VOO is the best SP500 fund, but I think total market funds like VTI are a much better and rational choice. Only reason I see choosing SP500 over total market is if you are bullish on large cap growth, over the diversification, small cap, and less actively managed benefits of total market. Although of course in practice they are very similar.

How is having better liquidity useful? I hear the words, but I don't understand how it would be used in real world

    • @OptimizedPortfolio

Basically means easier to sell, which can be particularly important in periods of panic. Also means smaller spreads.

@@OptimizedPortfolio Is one a mutual fund you can only sell at the end of the day? That's what confused me as far as being harder/easier to sell? What makes one harder to sell?

@@ZantherStone No; all 3 of these funds are ETFs.

IVV and IJR are a great combo, but the Blackrock hate leads them to get ignored a lot.

Agreed. Big fan of the S&P earnings screens on their small cap funds.

Much less popular than the big 3 here so I left it out. SPDR is also already represented with SPY. But another fine choice indeed.

@@OptimizedPortfolio I think SPLG should have made the list since it's 33% cheaper to own than your leaders IVV or VOO. Appreciate the video!
