Great video on the Oncidium Alliance. Helping me with my oncidium and how to look after it. Waiting to see what the blooms look like on these 2.

Good job! I also have the Renaissance Coral and several other in the oncidium alliance. I must admit that even though the poor things must be so confused, they as doing great 😊 During the day while at work the house often goes down to 13-14° C and not much light in winter but my little led under cabinet lights. Then we arrive home from work, turn on all the lights and blast the heater to get warm. I'm sure this is one reason that my cattleyas don't do well in the winter but some others thrive.

Hi Roger, great new growth, won't be long now and that warmth will push them along! I spied a gloxinia ..... One of my all time favorite garden flowers!

It's a Streptocarpus - deep purple blooms but its not doing well at the moment.

@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai ah, I like them too! I have a much easier type of that, streptocarpella, its flowers aren't as elongated, but the sheer amount of them make up for it.

Oncidium Katrin Zoch is a great plant for beginners. They always bloom. Got mine from ebay, separated it into three parts straight away and I get a spikes on each division making it bloom for months now with a super sweet intense scent. It's just slightly lazy on the new growths.

Video idea for beginners like me: how to know of an orchid is overpriced? When is so cheap to get suspicious? For sure there no fixed rules, but I would really appreciate some directions to have more confident while buying. Just an idea, thanks for sharing

Great videos Roger. Wondering what percentage you keep your growroom winter and summer??

Not quite sure what you're asking?

Roger's Orchids Sorry Roger I mean humidity. I plan to get a humidifier. In winter and lower temperatures the greenhouse humidity stays quite high but in summer the humidity needs help & I wonder what percentage to set the humidifier at to keep Dendrobiums, Oncidiums happy? 60 or 70% ???

In my low Winter temps (13C min. night, and 18-21C day) my humidity stays around 60% without any 'help' so I don't use the hydro-fogger. As soon as the temps start to rise and I get day temps of 24-25C in Spring, I will set it to 75%.

I think I have/hopefully *had* thrips...looks like a long gnat acts like a termite (looks similar to that too), ruined a new leaf trying to make a home in the crown of one of my Phals. and I have *ten* bud blasts on another Phal.! I will attribute one or two blasts a week due to my lack of care or temp. & humidity drops...but not that many in that short of a time. I'm "right chuffed" everytime I look at all those empty spaces especially since I've never accomplished that number of blooms on a Phal.! Do I get any useless Roger points for making that many nodes/bracts?😞

Thrips can be difficult to get rid of. Most of their life stages are not flying insects so are difficult to see and the larvae burrow inside of bud/shoots and even roots.

When do you trim bracts/leaves to keep the roots from growing skyward? If needed
