ZR1 is going to outperform the Z06 probably in every metric. The only reason to buy a Z06 over a ZR1 would be price.

    • @The-fs5wn

Every metric but driving feel. ZR1s, with the exception of the C4, have always been Z06s but with more power. The problem is, the recent gen ZR1s have been much heavier than the Z06s. The last gen ZR1 weighed over 200 lbs more. Plus, all that extra weight is now going to the back and the Z06 is already light on the steering and feedback.

I loved my Camaro SS1LE due to plenty drama, feel and speed. Didn’t feel the need to go to ZL1(1LE). Same thing with Vette. I think Z06 it’s the sweet spot for drama feel & plenty speed

Totally agree. Baring any major mistakes or goof up, Chevrolet is going to make sure (or strive) the ZR1 is faster on the track than the Z06. Chevrolet would be shooting themselves in the foot if the Z06 is a better machine for less money.

There are a couple of key differences. The ZR one will definitely weigh more, probably by 2 to 300 pounds, so it won’t be quite as nimble. The main thing though is that turbo chargers muffle the sound of an engine. We’ll see what it sounds like when it comes out, but generally speaking if you compare naturally aspirated motor to a turbo, the naturally aspirated will sound much better because turbos are like extra mufflers, and usually the naturally aspirated motors have higher redlines.
Lastly, naturally aspirated motors have a more natural feel and linear response when revving than turbos do. They both feel great in different ways, but I’ve come to prefer the latter after previously having owned several turbo charged/supercharged AMG’s and driving some turbocharged Porsches, AMG GT’s etc.
But it boils down to personal preference, this car is going to be an absolute monster and I am sure it will be putting down some unbelievably fast lap times with all that extra power.

I assume the ZR1 will hold its value better, with so few being made. And I’ve asked my dealer to put me on their list, but only if it’s a FPC. I got my Z from Ciocca at MSRP. I love the Z06, it’s more than I expected. In manual mode it’s a straight race car.

What actually determines what the best corvette is, has more to do with the intended purpose. A real track car would do away with all the bells and whistles while concentrating on optimum track oriented performance equipment. Which would actually make the car lighter. Unfortunately many corvette owners these days buy the corvette based on bragging rights, and very little interest in pushing the car to its limit.

true... I got one C8 Z07 for that reason I gotta think and some track/road course usage and then shits & giggles. I might be nutz but will enjoy the journey. Have and have had multiple fast rides mostly street legal for aggressive track usage. No tickets for 25+ yrs and I got a heavy foot when "safe" conditions allow and don't do stupid sustained high speeds unless on track then hell yeah once tires & brakes are warmed Up. C8 Z07 to the limit ?? We'll see... 8, 9/10's might do...

Yeah the zr1 c7 is better in my opinion than the z06 c8. The new zr1 is going to absolutely stomp the zo6 in every way. Might weigh a little more but who cares makes more power. They aren’t going to make a top trim that doesn’t beat a lower trim. Gonna cost.

The Z06 will 100% sound better loosing than the ZR1 will sound winning. ZR1 is a lower revving machine not to mention who the hell is even going to put it or the Z06 to its full potential.. only on Forza does it really matter Lol.
Power isn’t alway better, much rather have a slightly under powered track weapon than a heavy over powered one any day. Eray is prime example

@@2020matrix8 umm.. no I’m sorry I can’t agree. The c7 zr1 sounds so much better than the wannabe Ferrari 458 flat plain na car. Yeah you get less revs but it actually rocks you unlike that loud whiney high pitched v8 they put in it I’m not a fan. The zr1 has great down force and will eat it in a straight line and do pretty well anywhere for that matter. Also who would use this car to its full potential me 🤣. Also people don’t buy these cars to keep them stock some do but have you ever heard a properly cammed zr1 it truely is music and can’t be replicated. Today people drag race or they roll race or they screwed race hardly are they taking their zr1 to a turning event made for supercars. Sounds to me a turning car that’s slower with less room to grow in power stock that’s less adept at drag racing, roll racing and street racing along with modifications to be successful in those categories but with that c8 your screwed it’s just a slow car in every event that’s na.

4000 lbs, strut suspension, probably a 62-63% rear weight bias. I’m sure it may perform better, but with the weight so far back and so much of it on an inferior suspension to the GT3 RS and GTD, it definitely won’t feel or communicate very nicely. Plus if they decide to go the route of twin turbo LT6, I doubt the engine will be able to handle much abuse before breaking.

The ZR1 does not sound like a flat plane crank engine with turbo's muffling the exhaust to me. I also don't think GM is going to turbo a flat plane crank engine knowing they have to warranty them, because they sell so many cars vs other super car manufacturers.
Buying a ZR1 over a Z06 right now only makes sense if you are a youtuber or have more money than you could ever spend. For most everyone else it makes much more sense to wait for the buzz to die down and prices to fall just like the Z06 has. This also gives you time to see how reliable the ZR1 is going to be, if it overheats on track, how much more it will weigh, if it performs better, etc.

It’s not the heat that’s the problem. It’s the fact that the LT6 is huge for a high revving flat-plane V8 and the vibrations make it incredibly unreliable. The LT6 is already a very volatile engine and prone to rod knock by design. Shoving boost at it would make it a death trap.
