    What does fuel tank capacity have to do with the cost of ownership? I’d just go with MPG and vehicle cost and maintenance etc.

    • @perryallan3524
      @perryallan3524 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree. Key to controlling Auto cost is to not get a vehicle bigger and more gas hungry than you need for your family or for your job. That typically lowers both purchase price as well. Chose carefully and it will lower your maintenance cost as well.

      @@cameronmachado1774 But the cost of filling up the tank has nothing to do with the overall cost of of ownership and use of the vehicle. It's just a momentary charge.
      Example: Decades ago I had a vehicle with a 30+ gal tank that I filled about once a month.
      At the same time I had a car with a tank about half that size that I filled about twice a month
      They both about the same gas mileage and for a while I was driving both vehicles about the same mileage. The cost per mile of operation for the gas was essentially the same.
      Yes, the vehicle with the large tank cost me twice as much to fill, but I only had to do it half as much as the other vehicle.

    I have 2003 Ford F150 with 130k miles, 2004 Dodge 2500 diesel with 250k miles, and 2017 Honda Accord hybrid with 140k miles. The best thing is, paid cash for all. All vehicles have a purpose for us. F150 is our winter vehicle, the Dodge is our tow vehicle and the Honda is our daily driver.

    The amount it cost to fill up the tank is largely irrelevant. My Mustang cost about $62 to fill up (16 gallon tank but you never run your vehicle completely out of fuel before you fill up, so realistically 15.5 gallons) at $4 per gallon (it's modified and requires 93 octane). It returns about 21 MPG in mixed driving. My F-150 has a 36 gallon fuel tank but runs fine on 87 octane, so I"m spending much more to fill it up; about $121. It gets about 18-19 MPG in mixed driving. However when you break down the cost per mile, both are about the same. But here, she's focusing on the cost to fill the tank which doesn't matter. The cost per mile is what matters if you're overly concerned about the cost of driving.

    2014 Sequoia owner here. It's got 148,000 miles. I bought it used in 2019 and since have put on 35,000 miles. I fill it up once or twice a month. Gas isn't a big issue at a little over $100 a month. If I were commuting every day in this beast, that would be a different story. I love being able to haul my family AND my sister-in-laws family in ONE vehicle on occasion.

And if you don't let your tank fall below 3/14 or 1/2 it isn't bad to fill up. I was around 1/2 the other day & I only spend like $36 to fill up and that was paying $3.25 for gas.

Realistically any Silverado you ACTUALLY see on the road is at least a $50k truck which is at a base model so to say their price is coming down is poor wording bc they're not.. and to go based off of gas prices on which vehicles are a bad choice is kinda pointless bc that'll be based off where you live and really has nothing to do with the vehicle themselves

    As others have stated, fuel tank capacity seems irrelevant, fuel economy is a better metric. Outside of gas though, I think a better metric for this list would've been to compare the 5 year average cost of ownership for each vehicle. As it stands, this is just a list of Googled "10 Vehicles With The Largest Fuel Tanks" and thier EPA fuel economy ratings.

I would say the Sequoia and Tundra definitely hold the best resale value on your list and are incredibly reliable - and we hold on to our cars forever so to us it’s been worth it. I agree with others the values you have placed on these vehicles are very low and I don’t believe they are accurate purchase prices.

    This is a bit odd to me. Nothing says you have to fill the tank all the way. You could have a vehicle with a 50 gallon tank that is expensive to fill but if it gets 50 miles to the gallon you would rarely have to fill it. Fuel economy is what matter most.

    and is durable…? Or have a none reliable that is more economic on gas…? Of course if you want both you need to pick a smaller or EV/PHEV/HEV , etc…
    One expensive vehicle on repairs overpasses a reliable thristy…🤷🏻

    • @chozendroid
      @chozendroid 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Completely agreed. I do generally agree with the notion of having a more gas efficient vehicle if it can meet your needs, eg go with a Toyota Highlander instead of a Toyota Sequoia if you just need the 3rd row and can get get by with less trunk space.
      That being said, I would happily stick with a 3-row vehicle for my family that requires limited maintenance, but requires more money to fill up with gas vs a smaller minivan that may be more cost-effective to fill up, but requires regular major repairs. Cost of vehicle ownership should be viewed more holistically, rather than just assessing the cost of gas.

    This is a disappointing video. Usually Ramsey advice is based upon solid principles but this video is absolute nonsense. The size of the gas tank is irrelevant to the economic impact of inflation. Cost of vehicle ownership is the meaningful metric. If the implication is inflation causes gas prices to rise, then the type of fuel (i.e. Diesel vs. Petrol; Regular vs. Premium) and miles per gallon are the meaningful metrics.

  • @heathwilliams9754
    @heathwilliams9754 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is the most pointless video ever made by the Ramsey team.
    How can you not take fuel economy into consideration? I drive an ecodiesel which gets great fuel economy and i spend less per mile than a gasoline engine.
    This list is just telling you which gasoline vehicles have the biggest fuel tanks because it's only telling you the most expensive to fill up at the pump. And this list does a terrible job of that since there are definitely 11 trucks that have more than 22, 24, 26, etc gallon capacities.
    I spend about 180 to fill my ecodiesel, but i only fill it once a month with a 30 mile round trip commute to and from work each day.
    Oh, and tundras never get 23 mpg. I owned a 2018 tundra and it would get a max of 19 mpg. Shoot, most people complain that it only gets 13-15 for them. Probably because they dont know how to drive properly.
    Bottom line, pointless video when there are several trucks out there with larger tanks which cost more to fill up. There are also vehicles that cost a lot to fill up but also have better fuel economy and you spend less per mile traveled, hence better to own during periods of high inflation. This was a pointless video.

  • @tomgle
    @tomgle 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What a dumb episode. Who cares what it costs to fill up???? You really want MPG as a more meaningful number. Car payments are great when you can find a dealer offering 0% interest. Contrary to your statement, a millionaire can't afford new car depreciation. Read Tom Stanleys book, The Millionaire next door. You get to be a millionaire by driving around in a fully depreciated clunker. At least this episode said a car is for getting from A to B.
