Thanks Ken, glad you could join me for the journey! Yeah, I made that pipe about 10 months ago. The bowl is made out of mesquite and the stem is oak. I specifically made that pipe to go along with my longhunter get up. It smokes surprisingly well. I don’t get to play in the woods as much as I used to 4-5 years ago, but it sure is nice when I do. Take care buddy!
I'm 65 years old and most my younger life I was fascinated by the mountain man era. I'm beginning to realize how much I now like the long hunter period. Thanks for your videos.
I know what you mean, for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with the plains Indians, mountain men, and the fur era. There’s just something about that time period that really resonates with me. Glad you enjoyed the video. I do have a couple more “longhunter” videos on my TH-cam channel if you care to check them out. Thanks for the kind words!
I’ve been a history enthusiast all my life, mainly American History. Absolutely love the mountain man/fur trapper era of the 1820’s through the Indian wars of the 1860-70’s. I started off making a leather pouch, then one thing just lead to another, until I have the current outfit I have now. I don’t claim to be historically accurate but I do enjoy getting out there and playing “native”. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!!
I love the little wooden tobacco container and tamper. I'll have to make some like that when I get a lathe of my own. I don't smoke tobacco but I do enjoy smoking other herbs in the woods. Do you recall where you got them from?
I made both the wooden canister and the tamper. The canister is made out of a piece of mesquite and the tamper was made from a piece of Osage orange. I’ve gotten a lot of miles out of those guys…and they work well for tobacco and “other herbs”. Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel and enjoying it. That is a great looking pipe, I am guessing home made? Looks like the perfect environment with all the makings for serenity. Have a great week and happy piping brother.
I’m glad you stumbled upon my channel. As you can see, my channel is kind of all over the place, everything from bushcraft and hiking to hunting and fishing. Oh, and pipe smoking too! Welcome aboard and thanks for watching!!
@@OntheTrailwithDale Very nice, I have made 2 oak churchwardens although only 1 is on my channel. First one was made and gifted before I started my channel. Have you ever considered making a hobby block pipe?
Thanks man! It’s been a work in progress for a while now, but I feel like it’s all finally coming together. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment. Take care!
Hey, late is better than never, haha! Glad you found it. Once Fall and the cooler weather get here, I’ll have to throw on the moccasins and buckskins and get back out there.
What an appropriate title for this great video, Dale. I really enjoy seeing the Longhunter out doing his thing.....You really captured the feeling in this film. I have to say, I am really glad I got to see that awesome antler full of needles. I have had a lot of fun, in the past, scraping those bone needles to shape, yours look great and are well protected!. I have to ask... was that mint tea by any chance? Thanks for another great video in the Longhunter series, Dale. Awesome work on putting this together and capturing what you enjoy! Take care my friend!.....Ben
Hey Ben, I’m so glad you came along for the ride buddy! Yes, that was some home grown mint and lemon balm leaves that I dried a while back. I’m glad you noticed my antler sewing kit. I knew you wanted to check it out so I made sure to get that on film. The antler came from a cull buck I shot 5-6 years ago. He was a 4 point on one side and broken antler on the other and that’s what I used for the container. I don’t get out in the woods as much as I did 4-5 years ago, but when I do, I sure enjoy it. I’m glad that came through on film. Hope you’re doing good buddy, talk to ya soon!!
Great vid Dale, always gives me a sense of peace when I watch, especially when you pull out your pipe to smoke! Great looking pipe (I see from another comment you made it) - how does it smoke??
Thanks for watching my videos, I appreciate it! Yes, I made that pipe and it smokes surprisingly well. I’m an aromatic guy, and I really enjoy smoking Sutliff’s Molto Dolce and Spiced Rum in it. Thanks again for stopping by, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Yes I made that pipe about 5 years ago. The bowl is mesquite and the stem is oak. It smokes great and is still going strong to this day. Thanks for watching!
It’s a pipe I handmade out of mesquite about 3 years ago. It’s loosely modeled after the Missouri Meerschaum Little Devil pipes. Pipes and Cigars sell them for about $10.75. Thanks for watching!
Most long-hunters, frontiersmen and mountain men used muskets and fusels from military surplus. Old, or captured, they were better as a survival weapon because even with a .75” bore they could take small game and fowl with shot, even with a handful of pebbles in needs be
Jo Nathan Yes, I made it about 10 months ago. The bowl is made out of mesquite and the stem is oak. I put a light stain on the stem to give it a more antiqued look. Thanks for watching!
Well done Dale! I enjoyed going on the journey with you and finding serenity! Really nice pipe!

Hey, I’m glad you eventually found it, haha! As always, thanks for watching!!
Nice to see a woodsman enjoying a pipe, as it was in the days of old.
It’s a dying breed, but there’s a few of us trying to keep it alive. Thanks for watching!
5:07-----sewing needles in the section of antler?
Yep. The sewing kit includes a bone awl, a bone needle and a couple steel needles for good measure. Thanks for watching!
Real nice camera work on this video. I could never walk any real distance in moccasins that don't have a good sole and support.
Thanks for noticing the camera work. I do spend a bit of time filming and editing so it’s always nice when someone notices. Thanks for stopping by!!
Good video, everything looked very authentic.

As a curiosity, where do you usually get out and about? Mostly public land or do you have some property?
Mostly my outdoor activities take place at my deer lease. Thanks for watching!

Question, did you make your pipe and if so what wood did you use fir for the bowl?
Yes I made that pipe about 5 years ago. The bowl is mesquite and the stem is oak. It smokes great and is still going strong to this day. Thanks for watching!
Much of his gear is hand/self made . Have used the same style often . Not “pretty” but functional , not complicated to make .

You want a really good pipe, make a Missouri Meerschaum, you can buy them too.
Hey Dale, We could all use a little more serenity in our lives.
I agree, thanks for stopping by and watching!!
Nice video! However, as a “long hunter,” how can you hunt without s long rifle?
Trapping was also part of a long hunter's tactics.
Annnnddd, if all else failed, make a bow n some arrows n snares!..... jus sayin... I did n have in past trips....
Enjoy!

Where is the rifle ??? What is a long rifleman without a rifle ?? Does he use harsh words on the game ??
Punch em real good
Nice music
What’s smoking got to do with serenity ?
