Hi great video, just one question, you mention about no chance at all of being able to rank in an area if you aren't physically in it. What about if you don't place your physical address and so tick the option where you serve customers at their address and include them in that area. Would you not rank for that area then or using geo location?
Yes you would because Google knows where you are. What I am saying is you can't rank in Bristol if your business is based in London because you're not based there
@@rankingacademy yes i get that but if you tick the box where you serve the location of Bristol and are based in London and you don't put your physical address (as Google instructs if you don't have customers coming. Hi robert. Thanks for your comment. If it's too good to be true then it certainly is. Google knows the value of links and the ones you will get from fiverr are simply rubbish and are likely to have the opposite effect you are aiming at. Getting links is hard work. A good quality link is worth tons of garbage ones so I would focus on them instead.
Hello , I noticed some businesses have small captions right underneath the name on the results . How would I be able to add that caption summary? Thank you in advance
Yes at 12:57 “Quality Solutions A-Z Law” has a little bit information underneath their hours looks like a review sometimes I see company information there can on other listings
So if I am searching for a landscaper in my town I will get the first three closest to my home? I have been trying to make sense of all of this. I was looking the other day and saw that 2 out of the top 3 on a recent search was showing me people who weren't even verified, no website, reviews , etc. Yet, below them there were those verified with websites, etc. I couldn't comprehend this. This is the only thing that makes sense now. Well, that and the other factors you mention that I am not entirely sure how to figure out. For one thing, I have tried to research citations of these companies on Moz and even that doesn't match up to them being in the top 3. I was hoping to offer this (claiming their GMB listing and optimizing it) and would like to know how to tell them, yes, I can get you in top 3 and yet be sure I actually can.
Hi pinkillac 7. Yes, proximity to the searcher is extremely important. If you have a mobile phone and try searching for a keyword in your area and try the same search elsewhere you can see for yourself you will get a complete different set of results. But this is obviously not the only factor. It's the combination of factors that makes a business rank well. This is probably why the businesses you mentioned were ranking although their citations weren't very good. Maybe they had the Location keyword and services in their name amongst other things.
Thank you for responding. Actually every single company on the list I saw had their name and landscaping and no actual location keywords so I am still trying to figure it out. Another example I just saw was from another local town and the first one on the list was XYZ landscaping serving and the name of two towns. When I look on their website they list an address in the one town and yet they have a different address on google. I don't understand how this is consistent enough to keep them in the 3 pack. And isn't this a form of spam to try and cover two towns in their GMB title? Furthermore the name of their website is simply Landscaping and the name of the town listed in their website. Not XYZ landscaping as listed in GMB.
Also, as far as proximity I am trying to understand how I can put in landscapers in my own town, where I am currently sitting right at this very moment, and getting landscapers in nearby towns ranking over my own town if proximity is so high up on the list of ranking factors. I am just really trying to make sense of all of this and really do appreciate any input you may have.
Here is what I recommend. Abide by the rules and use your own name in the business title of your GMB listing Build local quality links to your site (this will play a big part) Build citations Collect as may positive Google reviews as possible Build quality content to cover additional keyword Expand your reach by building location pages to capture a wider set of customers

I want to manage GMB for a client how I should do when I claim their business for them I should go to this business location and apply from their Gmail account Or???
You'll need to specify the location of the business which is where the verification coupon will be sent. You can do everything else yourself but they will need to verify it unless they give you the coupon
Hi Tracy. Location is obviously key so unless your business has an address in your target location (Oklahoma city) it will be difficult to rank for it. The first advise I would give you would be to consider relocating. I understand many business are not able to do this so you can also try the following strategy: Try getting links from other website with anchors that mention Oklahoma city. Optimize the content on your website to make it clear to Google that you have a presence in Oklahoma city. Work on your internal links and include Oklahoma city in the anchor
I own a Car Detailing Service business in Calgary Canada. Oddly enough and what I leaned via this site is that the actual category for my business is "Valeting Service" I would have never known that otherwise. I managed to change the Google listing of almost 20 competitors who had "Detail" or "Detailing" in their name listing, but wasn't in their actual business name. Where as my Registered company has Detail in it's name as well as it's Registered Trade Name. One thing to note is that when I applied in person for my business license I tried to register it as Detail Master Limited, but the officer said that is my Company Name and so asked me what was my Trade Name, at that point I was stumped for a bit. Now my company Trade Name is "Detail Masters Mobile Auto Spa" I don't know if this matters to Google or not though. Think of it like this: is McDonald's called McDonald's Ltd or Limited, NO it's just McDonald's etc. I am still learning more from Ranking Academy. Thanks Luc.
To add: last year I got most of my business from Facebook, while this year I'm still using Facebook as my main source of income, but I'm now working to make my Google listing much better as well. This is my second year in business although It's my third business of this type over my lifetime and have 12 years experience and have Detailed over 2800 vehicles total. What he doesn't address or have knowledge in his ranking factors, is that there are many new developments in the local search algo, such as addressing the disconnect between physical location of a business and the service areas of non-destination, in-home service businesses. Stay tuned. A lot coming to a neighborhood near you.
Making the business name part of the topic is not going to be used by google forever, especially as scammers use this to push businesses up the chain, next year Google may decide to use some other feature, so not sure that is good advice for the long run. Just look at how many times Google has already dumped what used to be their number one indicator.
Ray Howell i agree but that is the nature of SEO. You can apply the same logic to everything. One day backlinks won’t matter anymore. Does it mean you should stop trying to get some? No. Right now the business name is an important local signal and should be considered as part of any local strategy.
