Thank you for your videos - always helpful and great fun to watch.
    Packing challenge carry-on accepted!
I will embark Norwegian Jewel on 10 Oct 2024 for a 9 day Alaska cruise - so excited. As I will have only 2 hours between international arrival at LAX and connecting flight to Seattle, I decided to fly only with carry-on luggage. So, as I'm a bit of over-planning person 😅 (half a year before cruising), I've just checked out, how and what to pack.
Before moving from Europe to South Pacific I was engaged in equestrian sports - so I'm experienced in layering and I still have here some light/warm clothing (for visiting Europe in winter - missing snow). So, my rain jacket - easily worn over light fleece zipper jackets, of which I will have two with me - can be packed in itself and easily wrapped around my waist, but there is even enough space in my carry-on. I will wear my ultra-light puffer jacket (also packable in itself) when travelling. And for rainy days and to save space in luggage, I've got 100% silicone waterproof and anti-slippery shoe covers, which perfectly match with my sport shoes. They can be found in internet or sport shops (many colours available). I've found my orange covers for example in proshop at golf course. And because of my light layering clothes there is even space for two long blouses and my traditional polynesian long dress (incl. light flat sandals) in my carry-on.
Due to my loyalty status with Norwegian I get a free laundry bag 😁, so it makes it really easier packing carry-on and personal item (larger ultralight college bag).
Result: Carry-on 15,5 lbs and personal item 5 lbs.
    Mission completed! 😁😁
Greetings from Moorea (sister island of Tahiti) in French-Polynesia 😎🌴 🏖🇵🇫🇫🇷🇪🇺

I always pack carry-on only. It doesn't matter where we are going, how long we'll be there or what season we are traveling in. Its kinda a little bit of an obsession and a little bit of science. Lol

Very exciting beginning to this episode! Great suggestions once again. When traveling light with carry-on only, I think the most important thing is to bring a good mood, curiosity, and a sense of adventure, wherever you go. These hardly take up any space in your luggage but they certainly expand your enjoyment of the trip! 😃

I plan on only taking a backpack for a 10 day cruise to Alaska. I intend to do laundry on the ship one day.

Yes! I've been doing laundry on cruises since I learned they were available! Reduces the amount to take. Throw the dirty in the washer before showering for dinner. Toss items in the dryer before doing hair and makeup. I don't want to spend my first day back home in the laundry room.

In my wildest dreams, I'm going to get brave enough to do carry on only. I'm not a huge over packer. I like to be prepared for every contingency and that's hard to do with carry on only! It has saved us on several occasions.

  • @anakerose
    @anakerose 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I just went through my packing list and cut a good 1/4 to 1/3 of the clothes out for all three of us! I keep forgetting we'll be there in the last half of May not the first half so I won't need as much heavy clothing. Might not be carry-on only, but I've definitely reduced the amount 😊

Since I live less than 30 min from our port city, I’ve never been concerned about carry-on only. However, I’ve started to cut back on nonessential items as I travel more. One day I hope to be a carry-on only lady.

We live closest to Vancouver so technically we don't have to worry about packing light. But, we're parking at YVR and taking SkyTrain to Canada Place so we'll have to lug our stuff. Plus we have a 7 year old who will have his own suitcase to manage 😊

Wear a washable base layer under your nicer clothes... think Cashmere, Merino or that nice shirt so they can be worn multiple times.
I often wear an outfit for dinner only and a few days later wear that same outfit all day for touring. There are lots of ways to extend your wardrobe 😉

If you don't venture north of Ketchikan, it's easier to go carry-on only. Not cold enough for glaciers there, so you can pack for Seattle.

Thank you! I am going in July and my goal is carry on only. I am always an over packer so i am thinking of just packing different leggings warm and summer and light layer-able tops and 1 thick fleece zip up & rain jacket and a puffer jacket which shrinks! We are sailing 1st week of July and i am guessing it won’t be as cold but i will not know till i am closer to the trip. Im not doing any rugged excursions. So i think I will be good! 😊 i hope so lol

Honestly, I think I could do it for a 7nt cruise. But, for the 14nt we have planned, I'm thinking we'll still be packing in our bigger suitcases, just not for the full 14. After looking at the itinerary, we'd probably have to pack for 8 days and then do laundry.

Does it count if I have cut down from a large checked suitcase to a medium sized checked suitcase?
The carry on bag is for my allowed allotment of wine and non alcoholic beverages.

Challenge accepted, due to the fact I will have to lug my luggage down and up the stairs to my 2nd floor apartment (no elevator/escalator/ramp), and possibly up and down some stairs for public transit (escalator only runs in one direction). Those of you who pack more, be grateful you have generous helpers for your luggage at every step of the way.

I've found small packets of Tide at both Target and Walmart. These are usually located with all of the travel sizes in bins. Also, I have purchased detergent sheets on Amazon. These are flat sheets. One brand is called Wash-Eze. Have used this brand and liked it. Do a search on Amazon for detergent sheets to see various brands. If you're doing carry on only, the sheets are better since not a liquid.

Hi! I’ve read that if you go with a tour group they will supply hiking gear. If you have water proof trail shoes you might be okay. Just keep in mind parts of Alaska are a rain forest so it’s going to be wet. Have so much fun! 😊

Instead of bulky sweatshirts pack merino sweaters that aren’t bulky, super warm and don’t need laundering because they naturally don’t absorb odors.

Nope sorry! I like this video but not for my family. We love to dress up for semi casual and formal night. And I don’t have a problem using the laundromat onboard or sending it to be taken care off, with Princess we are Elite members so it’s free with other cruise lines then I do use the machines specially on longer cruises than 7 days. I have been traveling with my girls since they were 1 year old and kids do use clothes now they are old enough to do their on laundry, but no biggy I am ok plus my husband always helped.
