You should one day spend a week in Irkutsk and nearby Baikal: it will blow your mind. Irkustk has beautiful architecture like st Petersburg (as the decemberist fled there); and as for Baikal it is my favourite part of Russia. I am still living here as an Australian for four years now, I love it.

Yes, Baikal is every bit as beautiful as I remember it. Thank you once again for these lovely videos Lisa.
You can see the nerpa but they’re found at the northern end of the lake. The Russian name for the Baikal Seal, its the only exclusively freshwater seal. All the rest in Russia are subspecies of the Arctic Ringed Seal.

Seeing Lake Baikal from the train has to be so spectacular! I don't know that I could do a journey like that more than once every 10 years or so cooped up in the platzkart area for a whole week like that. I would want to spend all day hanging out in the dining car if the staff would allow me to 😊

I always loved Russian trains. I usually went platzkart but sometimes coupe. The sounds of the train put me to sleep, no problem.

Один раз в жизни ехал из Владика в Москву на поезде. Случилось это после ДМБ в 1989 году, нас было четверо и командиры не смогли достать билеты на самолет. Ехали в купе, никакой заварной "бомжатины" в те времена просто не существовало, набрали с собой тушенки и консервированных компотов. Пассажиры в вагоне менялись не реже, чем в в вашем плацкарте, не один раз, от конечной до конечной доехали только мы, это нам сильно помогло разнообразить рацион путем обмена консервов на другие продукты, которые люди обычно берут с собой в дорогу. Самым нашим лучшим другом стала проводница, которая к нам оиносилась почти, как мать и дажа выдала чайник, чтобы мы смогли помыть головы, душевой в вагоне не было.

I flew by airline LOT" to South Korea via the sibirian route in the air up to Baikal Lake and turned to Mongolia, China...the same days later way back.

Russia has many and diffrent landscapes just like here in india we have so much of diffrent landscapes from north to south.
People think of Siberia as being cold all the time but obviously summers can be very hot - people say the same about Canada but summers here are also hot. One thing your trip demonstrates is just how big Russia is.

To each their own, I guess, but I've ridden trains in Russia plenty of times, the long-haul trips I did not enjoy at all. Maybe I'm just getting old. Road tripping around Russia in a car is pretty awesome though.

I have taken our AMTRAK Trains here in the US.....most of the Train Cars are OLD from the 1990s, lol. The modern new high-speed-ISH ones called ACELA only go from Boston to NYC and then to Washington DC and back. I have taken the Overnight train from South Florida to North Carolina (20 hours)in a cabin class called a ROOMMETTE. It fits 1 or 2 people travelling together maximum. If you are alone they Do Not put another passenger in the cabin with you. You stay SOLO.
Food is provided free with the private cabin selection, breakfast-lunch-dinner. Long Distance train travel in the US is Very Very Expensive if you choose Private Cabins, the most expensive cabins has a toilet and shower IN the room. The Roommette has a Sink and the Toilet and a Shower are at the back end of the each Train Cars shared with other Roommette passengers.
The views from Florida to up East towards New York is NOT that Pretty to look at unlike yours,lol.
The longest trips which take about 4 nights and 5 days from the East, Midwest all the way to the West Coast states such as California, Oregon, Washington states.

I was 4 yrs in Military College from 1973 to 1976.I came from the east coast state,Trengganu(Kuwait of Malaysia,oil rich state) and our college is at Kuala Lumpur.I remember during term break we were supplied with 'warrant ticket' to any destination of our choice in the Peninsula Malaysia...instead of going back to my hometown,i always chose the border town of Thailand or Singapore....

I am impressed they went through so much trouble to recover your cup. Most places they would have said it is your problem.
Because this cup if from TRAIN someone has to pay for if if it is lost, me or cabin crew, so it was in our interest to find it 😁 I even got to know head "director" of the train

Nice you talked with the other passengers. Great to take a walk to the restaurant inside the train. Seems like it is possible to have stop in a bigger city some days for us older people. But fine you can sleep on the train also.
It's definitely possible but you still have to pay full ticket price even if you disembark in the middle of the route.

Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk are definitely in my bucket list! I have seen epic winter videos from both cities, and have a VK friend in Novosibirsk with whom i talk regularly) (even though she too wants to go to Moscow now, like you!)
And yes, even though these cities are frozen in winter, in summer they get very very hot! Novosibirsk is situated this way that just as frozen air gets trapped inside so does warm air.
Lisa, you should definitely 'properly visit' both Krasnoyarsk and Novosibirsk, in the future of course! 🙂

Another amazing episode! I enjoyed watching everything. I can feel your frustration when you said that you just wanted to get to Moscow and that you started to feel really bored on the train. When I had a trip on the Trans-Siberian train, I was able to meet some cool people despite the language barrier (my Russian is terrible) but we still managed to have some cool conversations about so many things. Thanks for the video once again, it brought so many beautiful memories!

The nature is just beautiful throughout Russia. I took a long back and forth train the other week halfway across the country and the first one was a morning train with a regular seat and it was unbearable. On the return, I booked a shared room with six beds and it was much better. But it was only a 7 hour ride at night so I slept through most of it (thankfully, no snorers or little kids screaming). As much as I dream of taking the Trans Siberian ride one day, I don't think I'd be able to manage the whole ride from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok. I'd rather make stops throughout the country and enjoy the various cities but even that would require probably a couple of months of free time to really get anything out of it.
